The classes are bland and boring compared to pathfinder. Where are the shifters, kineticists, alchemists and other cool classes?

Lol a good DM makes looting fun and engaging as they actually take account the players playing and their play styles. A player that likes a lot of combat gets a new sword, a player that likes trickster RP gets a lantern that charms low level NPCs. You can't just shoehorn "it's just like real D&D durrr" into a CRPG. The reason why real D&D is good is because you have mastermind AI (the DM) catering to the group.

You forgot:
- attempted to streamline mechanics but instead have shitty QOL features, stealth is painful, implementation of the jump action is awful, etc
- dice mechanics with no speed up, extremely punishing for failing, ridiculous DCs in general, this would be a D&D campaign with a homosexual for a DM
- actually have min/max dialog instead of actually having the group interact with npcs (coding laziness)
- the player's MC isn't actually the MC and instead is just a cog in the group of equal importance, actually that that a lot, the game misses the point of this style of CRPG
If you want a cog party system make a game like Icewind Dale and let me make different characters with backgrounds I can select which interact with the story.

I was always immediately put off by the brain worm plot, it was that and the turn based gameplay that turned me off of the beta
My mistake was not spoiling myself on someone's playthrough and seeing how how shitty it was as a power fantasy CRPG. It completely misses the point of having written non-pickable companions, the idea being that they react in conversation to your decisions and interject their opinions, rather than be lifeless puppets you inhabit after the sex scenes.
I mean if you were around for DOS 2 there was nothing actually special about it. Basically a super slow, casual, hack and slash with gimmicky environmental interaction. I remember trying to play it but the races were ugly and the 3.5e ability score pumping system it garbage... also the combat was terrible (turn based). I turned it on the highest difficulty and ran my character into one of those grub things and it two shot me so I refunded the game.
DOS 2 did the power fantasy better. Also I don't mind turned based combat as long as it doesn't require autism levels of thinking 5 minutes per turn.

By power fantasy I want a story that caters to the PC, Dragon Age did the scripted companions excellently, the story is still revolving around your decisions and doesn't have this weird schizophrenia that you can hop between MCs. BG3 has one of the most hamfisted, moronic party system I've every seen. Even DOS2 did it better because multiple characters can talk to the NPC at the same time.

Dude, I went for "the cleric" as my character's romance option and I didn't see a sex scene until I was 50 hours into the game.
Maybe it's because I was a bit too conservative with my rest, or maybe it was because I took a very milquetoast "lawful/neutral good" route approach to the game, but still.
Yeah the cleric was going to frick my character but she was pissed the drow was going to frick me first. And really, every companion was going to frick my character.
OS2's only aspect of gameplay is being AP/cooldown based over 5es shit economy that BG3 breaks anyways to make up for it. Classless system sucks, skill books being tied to character level and not how many points into the skill sucks, armor system sucks, diablo loot/vendor gambling sucks.
