It's almost certain that you'd fricking die without a source of clean potable water. Modern water and sewerage systems are one of the aspects of modern society that really go unappreciated because once our domestic water supply goes down it'll leave most people without access to a proper well next to no source of drinking water.

while I agree on your point on nuclear energy being relatively safe, don't downplay chernobyl. It was a masive catastrophe that could be easily avoided. Why people afraid of planes more than cars, despite cars having bigger body count? Cause when plane fells, it's usually ~100 dead at one time. It horrifies people because of one-time deaths. Same with nuclear catastrophes. One Chernobyl overshadows all the work-related deaths on coal/oil/etc powerplants
also you can't just go as a tourist - you need a guide, a permission, and always stay on the trail. Theres places in the zone that can give you ray disease in matter of minutes to this day. I mean, if you want to drill into that nuclear reactor scare feeling, then Factorio with the Realistic Reactors mod goes some way towards it. In the vanilla game they're fairly safe but the mod makes it so they can melt down if they exceed 1000 degrees temp, so you have to build a fairly complex cooling system/auto-scram etc.
