Not him but half life as a series just isn't good. Time and place. It's was a good physics engine. And novelty experience. Once you've beaten it, like all fps it just gets boring. Like re reading a book or watching a movie. Nothing changes. Except this game has been overhyped for like 20 years now.

Half-life 2 and it's episodes are a slog to replay unlike the much superior Half-Life 1 and it's expansions.
the movement feels weird in hL2. Like slidy, you keep moving for a second after you stop any input
I think the assualt on nova prospekt, or just all of it in general, and the encounters in city 17 are amazing. No other shooter has such a variety of unique scenarios and levels like HL2 does.
I can go and play any of these, and day I want, and it'll be guaranteed to be as great as it was day 1.

Half Life 1 is a good game. It has good fundamentals
Half Life 2 isn't. It relies on gimmicks and high production value to distract you from its poor fundamentals. Every level in HL2 has some unfun gimmick. They all feel like "that level" that make you not want to replay a game again. The gravity gun is not more fun than actually shooting enemies, and the guns in HL2 are pretty bad

You haven't played Half-Life 2 recently have you? It's a literal masterpiece in terms of pacing and tone. When you enter Nova Prospekt, are seperated from the Antlions, and that ominous music plays, almost like a buddhist chant? That's a master pizza.

Nova Prospekt is two awful gimmicks in a row. You can summon antlions - this is a totally brainless mechanic. They appear and kill the enemies for you, there's no skill involved. Then you have the turret section, which is some attempt to be some sort of miniature strategy game, it's tedious and boring
