Japs are the worst writers ever. Nonsensical stories. Needlessly convoluted plots. Naive messages. Cheezy characters. I fricking love them.
The Japs have NOTHING to say and yet they keep proudly writing these moronic stories and dialogues. Thank you God for Japan.
I'd find their shit-tier writing more endearing if it hadn't completely infected the entire vidya industry.
We're on the third generation of writers who only know schlock. >japs shit out game with "story" >next gen writes games inspired by terrible jap stories >gen after that emulates previous writers
There aren't even hardware issues that limit the narrative anymore. Do writers use that freedom to create something better? lol, nope, just more space to shovel in shit.
Most of the time it's due to translation.
Not retro, but I played DQ11 over the summer. There was a two hour long segment of the game entirely structured around the hero's dead parents. The hero is mute, emotionless, and characterless under the guise of being a self insert, and yet they still devoted two entire hours, along with long, droning, boring, ridiculous cutscenes over the dead parents of this totally worthless character who you have absolutely no reason to care about, or be affected by. In a way, I do admire their brashness.
It's because they know the games are for babies.
Why can't you people ever just stay on topic? Is it on purpose? Do you know it's bait yet respond anyway? Do you just fight imaginary boogeyman just to inflate your own ego? Why do you do this?
Doesn't answer my question.

i can relate, i get the DQ protagonists are supposed to be self-inserts mute protagonists, but it didn't make me have strong emotions, however, there's an indie game i beat it that made me feel soo many strong emotions that i didn't even know i had it in me
the game is the final station, i won't talk about the game because i want anons to play themselves in case they're interested
but i do like when devs and writers go out of their way to make players feel strong emotions even tho writing isn't that effective since most people don't play games more to have fun not to feel strong emotions, it's understandable, but sometimes i really like that
i mean, i'm not even mad, in a way i do agree, i don't know about the other anons, but as you get older, it gets much harder and harder to play video games even when you still care about games because a lot grew up playing
i don't know how to put in words, but despite liking video games, much more retro games than modern games, is those games aren't fun anymore
Kingdom Hearts can do serious damage to a developing adolescent's brain
You're confusing cause and effect. Brain damage causes people to play Kingdom Hearts.
I've heard the same about Sonic, but seeing what Mario has done to the denizens of Ganker shows me Nintendo is awful for children and adult children.
>but Mayo
Not helping your case
I guess mom was right all along and videogames really are a bad hobby and a waste of time
All hobbies are a waste of time, that's the point.
Otherwise they'd be jobs.
People get hurt, they get better, and as time goes by they forget
>DAYS GO BY AND STILL I THINK OF YOU
Tia and Maxim scenes in Lufia II.

anon, it's okay
japs does suck at writing, but regardless of line
that line was extremely impactful to me and it made me sad, very sad

Cry about it.

I'll never see her again
I know I never will
i'm sorry anon
Pretty much the entirety of FFX
