They are trying and failing to form connections. This is an instinctual behaviour that exists in all of us. It's just become twisted in this scenario and created a parasocial relationship where he is paying somebody to pay attention to him. Or at least, trying to, because apparently it isn't working.

there's grill streamers stuck on 2 digit views, and partnered streamers whos viewcount have tanked dramatically, there's no one magic selling point for being a successful streamer, I think consistency is a major factor but streaming several days a week every week is incredibly difficult especially if you don't have good viewing figures to show for it. That's why the ones who "make it" can be acknowledged for putting in the hours, whatever else you might think of them.

youre right they have <200 viewers but since theyre female they get the same amount as >5000 viewer male streamer

I bought Hunt showdown last year and followed some tutorials on YouTube.
Found out those people have twitch channel where they have complete game instead of small bits.
They get like 200-500 views and still earn over $30k yearly in subscription alone.
They also get several donations and advertisement from energy drinks, food companies, logitech, etc.
People claim only 1% earn but that isn't true in my opinion.
$30-50k may not sound much to Americans but to these East European players and third world it is more than what 90% of their population earns.

200-500 is still top 1% of twitch

Could have just spent that money on an escort, at least they'd get something out of it

  10. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

That's only true for massively popular streamers like xqc or assmonger
Sometimes I watch sub-10k streamers because they're absolutely nuts at the games and they tend to read most comments unless they're focused on the game

For example, I don't play wow anymore, but sometimes I like to see how it's going and I watch Maximum for that. He interacts a lot with his chat, if someone asks something he usually tries to answer.
Some streamers are just massive grifters who don't give a crap about their viewers though.

Twitch chat is usually just "reacting" on big streams. Then talking to each other on medium streams. Then on <100 streams actually talking to the streamer.
To me it's amazing how many actual talented players don't get viewers on their stream. Like someone can win a tourney with thousands of players and then you can jump on their stream the next day and ask them questions directly because no one gives a frick about actual good players, only reactionary ones with big sponsors making "content".

I've had my comments read in streams with 2-4k viewers tons of times. And I've never subbed or donated or anything.
If your comments/questions are actually have something of value, and you don't come across as some attention prostitute. And you can just accept it if your comment wasn't seen/read (which is still by far the most likely scenario), and don't spam/repeat your comments. Chances are your comment won't get ignored.

Spammers get ignored because they're annoying. Even if your comment is seen you're ignored in spite of that.
Desperation is annoying and has you be ignored out of that.
And trying to be quirky to stand out typically just translates to commenting for the sake of commenting over actually trying communicate something of worth. Which is why attention prostitutes are annoying.

If you're just some regular dude making genuine and relevant comments, chances are good that sometimes, your comment will be read. Key word being sometimes.
I don't even like attention. So I don't seek it. I typically just have streams on in the background while I do other stuff, but sometimes I'll get a genuine question. At which point I might as well ask in case I get it answered. Which actually isn't that pointless, because even in the scenarios where your comment might go ignored, a question being asked increases the likelihood of someone else asking the same question afterwards. Which kind of gives the same end results.

Humans want connections, even loners want some form of communication or togetherness, it's in our DNA.
These zoomies have gotten acclimated to the safe environment Twitch and other social media grant where you can 'forge' connections without bearing the burdens of actually going out and doing it irl.
Why would they when the only thing they need to sacrifice is time and money? They won't risk humiliation, they won't risk getting bullied, they won't risk being rejected, in fact the streamer will thank them, it's literally instant gratification.
It's all the benefits of connection without any of the negatives in their mind.
