You can find matches in all original three games on Xbox live. Microsoft recently repaired 360 game servers. CoD WaW and all the other earlier cod games have consistent activity now on Xbox live.

Making the Locust a creation of the COG is asinine. The shit we see in their hollows in 2 literally would have taken hundreds if not thousands of years to create, and Gears 5 suggests they created their entire civilization from one lab within 20 years? Absurd
The original idea was that the Locust were indigenous to Sera and lived underground, and the Sires were an attempt to cross-breed humans and locust so the COG would have slave laborers who could mine imulsion for them, and the Queen was the most successful result of those experiments.

I guess looking back, Gears 2 was probably trying to show us humans created the Locust. You're sent to a secret lab doing experiments because it will lead to the Locust headquarters. Why would secret experiments lead you to the Locust hive unless those experiments created the Locust? It's still lame but I can't fully blame The Coalition.
The Locust Queen being human was always pretty dumb when you think about it. At least Gears 5 gave us the Matriarch and some cool secret lab areas.

Gears 1 is the only game in the series with any kind of atmosphere, they did an excellent job getting across the desperate situation where every small skirmish mattered, set it in a bleak, oppressive environment and even played with some horror elements. At this point, the only major thing that The Coalition is in charge of is the overall art and story of the game, and barely anyone plays gears for the story anymore. Splash Damage has handled the actual gameplay and balance of the series since Epic handed it over to Microsoft.
If they manage to balance the fidelity with maintaining consistent style, everything should be okay. I wish they would return to the emphasis on darkness and environmental hazards.
The writers even managed to open the possibility of all the monsters from the original trilogy returning.
Would be cool to see the Kryll return in multiplayer maps.
