You should probably haul ass for Yelan (might want to get welkin too unless you're strictly f2p) because she's a part 1 banner, but after that you can go at your own pace again.

Go to ebay and buy a low level account that has a few of the characters you want unlocked already. There are tons of hand-leveled 'starter' accounts that are created for this purpose.
There's literally no point in starting to play a gacha game that's more than a few months old because they all run so many unique/limited banners that your account will be permanently crippled by a lack of overpowered 5* characters that the game assumes you have but you'll never get a chance to roll for.
Playing a gacha game for FOMO and thinking you'll be able to 100% ANY gacha game is the reason you don't enjoy them. Just accept that you'll inevitably miss out on shit since it's not possible to have everything and you don't need everything. A newbie in 2023 can easily make an account that can clear all future content and endgame in like six months.
genshin is very noob friendly. my sister started it about 2 months ago and is very close to the end game.
powercreep is close to none-existent. i say close because to fully clear (9*) abyss floor 12, you'll need either OP units or current meta units. but for the overworld, old units are still fine. hell, they haven't powercreeped 4* characters from game launch and are still considered 6* units (bennet, xingqiu and xiangling).
the only other gacha i know of that is this noob friendly is PGR. gacha currency is participation and log in trophies instead of leaderboard shit.
I started Arknights 6 months ago and that game has given out some busted collab units in the past. Missed them all but idc. Just don't be a slave for FOMO and play with what you get and any game can still be fun.
They’re literally giving a one of the best characters for free in the next patch. Everything reruns at some point. It’s impossible to frick up by playing this game.
Her C1 allows you to sprint forever so she is essentially the most useful character. You can beat the entire story with anyone but you’ll have to stop sprinting for a minute the entire time you’re playing without her.
the most useful character is wanderer, yelan is stuck to the ground while he can fly and cross paths that no other character ever could and save several seconds on places where you'd have to walk all the way around and climb with every other character
also yelan c1 doesn't work "forever", it has downtime and you might as well use sayu with her instead of wasting primos that you could've used on an entire new 5* character
Yeah keep running, on long distance Sayu will always come first, she recovers stamina during her roll too. Nicely nitpicked distance where she barely loses

This concerns me a lot. The first two major patch banners look really bad. A twink and yelan for the first half and even 4.1 is just two fujos and venti/hu tao. I feel like I have no reason to even play since the banners are raw butthole from 3.8 through to 4.2.
I'm new and have no 5 stars other than yelan (i got her and quit), its boring I don't have anything to roll on until 4.2 esp since I dont like hu tao cuz she looks clunky
haven't rolled on anything since Nilou's rerun, i Welkin and have about 160-170 rolls saved up so far while at 76 pity for a 50/50.
debating on if i should toss the 50/50 for Kokomi, Yelan, or wait for future characters. (i already got Yelan's bow for over a year now if that matters)
i got a c2r1 Nahida and c2r0 Nilou, if there was a Nilou rerun soon i would attempt the weapon banner as the damn craftables ended up as more ER weapons instead of any HP scaling ones.
Kokomi seems to be a standard option for Nilou bloom but i found Barbara to be a very solid replacement.
i've tried her out during trial events where they let you slot characters into your team, i wasn't that impressed compared to the free option of Barbara.
i figure if anything i could hold out until her next rerun as we are going into the Hydro region.
at least Yelan would be a second Xingqiu though i rarely run teams that need two or teams that require one of each for opposite sides of the abyss, i just know she is a good flex option and i've had her Bow since 2.4

they do combat events that let you try out characters, hell the level maker event let you use everyone.
If you can’t see the massive difference between a character who creates a tiny little ring that makes you need to physically touch enemies to apply hydro, and constantly gets you wet so you’re being frozen/shocked/vaped all the time, vs a summon that creates a giant aura of constant hydro application and superior healing then I dunno what to tell you.

there are tradeoffs to both, barbara has a small aoe but can apply rapidly, Kokomi's jellyfish is a bit slower but has a large AOE but in the event enemies are outside of the jellyfish aoe your shit out of luck until cooldown is up.
the argument isn't that she isn't good at the role, the argument is she worth 75-80 rolls for a 50/50 chance when a free option is highly competitive if their strengths are more niche.
afterall, what if the 4.1 banners are absolutely cracked? then i would have to weigh against my Archon fund.
If you’re just talking Nilou bloom then it’s true that you need to be strategic about where you place her jellyfish. Otherwise having Sucrose or Kazuha more or less negates that whole problem. And also like I said, much stronger healing with near permanent uptime.
I personally pulled for Kokomi because of meta and I think she’s cute so it was a no brainer to dip into my “archon fund”. If you don’t care as much then feel free to skip. I just disagree that barb is strongly competitive.

yes, Nilou bloom is the exact situation i would consider Kokomi for where you cannot use groupers at all.
unless Focalors kit is garbage (unlikely) i would prefer to make sure i have enough primos to grab what is needed to be get the most out of her. archons tend to be c2 bait or worse could be like Nilou who has no other real options for weapon meaning dealing with the dangers of the weapon banner.
i double checked and have 177 rolls currently saved and depending on a Nilou rerun may have to deal with the pain of the weapon banner for her while also trying to maintain enough to at least get one copy of Focalors.
if Fontaine wasn't the Hydro region i would be more inclined to just grab Kokomi.

They’re not that bad. Layla is criminally underrated as a shielder, plus cryo battery in monocryo. Kirara is decent. Only Mika and Dori have been actually awful.
Diona is a frontloaded battery, Layla is a sustained battery.
The EM buff is only at C6. Layla buffs atk% and her own personal damage with cons. They’re fairly close honestly, I just like Layla more.

the only other gacha i know of that is this noob friendly is PGR. gacha currency is participation and log in trophies instead of leaderboard shit.

Her C1 allows you to sprint forever so she is essentially the most useful character. You can beat the entire story with anyone but you’ll have to stop sprinting for a minute the entire time you’re playing without her.
the most useful character is wanderer, yelan is stuck to the ground while he can fly and cross paths that no other character ever could and save several seconds on places where you'd have to walk all the way around and climb with every other character
also yelan c1 doesn't work "forever", it has downtime and you might as well use sayu with her instead of wasting primos that you could've used on an entire new 5* character

This concerns me a lot. The first two major patch banners look really bad. A twink and yelan for the first half and even 4.1 is just two fujos and venti/hu tao. I feel like I have no reason to even play since the banners are raw butthole from 3.8 through to 4.2.

haven't rolled on anything since Nilou's rerun, i Welkin and have about 160-170 rolls saved up so far while at 76 pity for a 50/50.
debating on if i should toss the 50/50 for Kokomi, Yelan, or wait for future characters. (i already got Yelan's bow for over a year now if that matters)
i got a c2r1 Nahida and c2r0 Nilou, if there was a Nilou rerun soon i would attempt the weapon banner as the damn craftables ended up as more ER weapons instead of any HP scaling ones.
Kokomi seems to be a standard option for Nilou bloom but i found Barbara to be a very solid replacement.
Kokomi is significantly better than Barbara generally and a solid upgrade for bloom. Her jellyfish has the best AOE hydro app in the game bar none.
i've tried her out during trial events where they let you slot characters into your team, i wasn't that impressed compared to the free option of Barbara.
i figure if anything i could hold out until her next rerun as we are going into the Hydro region.
at least Yelan would be a second Xingqiu though i rarely run teams that need two or teams that require one of each for opposite sides of the abyss, i just know she is a good flex option and i've had her Bow since 2.4
they do combat events that let you try out characters, hell the level maker event let you use everyone.

i don't have ayaka, only cyro i use at all was a meme commission team i made using Qiqi as the driver in a hyperfridge team.
If you can’t see the massive difference between a character who creates a tiny little ring that makes you need to physically touch enemies to apply hydro, and constantly gets you wet so you’re being frozen/shocked/vaped all the time, vs a summon that creates a giant aura of constant hydro application and superior healing then I dunno what to tell you.

there are tradeoffs to both, barbara has a small aoe but can apply rapidly, Kokomi's jellyfish is a bit slower but has a large AOE but in the event enemies are outside of the jellyfish aoe your shit out of luck until cooldown is up.
the argument isn't that she isn't good at the role, the argument is she worth 75-80 rolls for a 50/50 chance when a free option is highly competitive if their strengths are more niche.

If you’re just talking Nilou bloom then it’s true that you need to be strategic about where you place her jellyfish. Otherwise having Sucrose or Kazuha more or less negates that whole problem. And also like I said, much stronger healing with near permanent uptime.
I personally pulled for Kokomi because of meta and I think she’s cute so it was a no brainer to dip into my “archon fund”. If you don’t care as much then feel free to skip. I just disagree that barb is strongly competitive.
yes, Nilou bloom is the exact situation i would consider Kokomi for where you cannot use groupers at all.
unless Focalors kit is garbage (unlikely) i would prefer to make sure i have enough primos to grab what is needed to be get the most out of her. archons tend to be c2 bait or worse could be like Nilou who has no other real options for weapon meaning dealing with the dangers of the weapon banner.
i double checked and have 177 rolls currently saved and depending on a Nilou rerun may have to deal with the pain of the weapon banner for her while also trying to maintain enough to at least get one copy of Focalors.
if Fontaine wasn't the Hydro region i would be more inclined to just grab Kokomi.
I was lucky enough to get the key for Nilou, and if leaks are to be believed Focalors is an HP scaling sword user. You might be able to knock out two birds with one stone.

Diona is a frontloaded battery, Layla is a sustained battery.
The EM buff is only at C6. Layla buffs atk% and her own personal damage with cons. They’re fairly close honestly, I just like Layla more.
