i am not gonna lie, i was very skeptical about star rail but it has quickly become my favorite gacha game for now
it doesnt feel like a second job, there isnt a bloat of useless dialogue, the combat gameplay is without a doubt, better than genshin's swap/rotation based combat, the character designs appeal to my tastes, and i prefer the simple corridors over huge open world areas with tons of stuff to collect utilizing mediocre traversal options
i will stick with star rail and eventually zzz for a long while

Raiden scene was all show, it felt undeserved with how poorly the story was prior to it. Nobody cared if Signora died, and people only pretended to care about Ei because she is hot, even if her reason for stop fighting was moronic as hell. Traveler felt like he/she didn't do anything for the entire region's story.
Shadowbringers was the complete opposite, aquiring Ardbert's help was something that you've been wanting to see the whole expansion, and you knew he was part of you prior to this scene. It also made use of every main character so far, including the crystal exarch. Inazuma characters in comparison didn't do frickall when it was time to storm the shogun palace. That scene with Kazuha using the other vision almost made me laugh because it also felt so underwhelming in a narrative point of view.
The genshin main writer is like a child to Ishikawa from FFXIV.

In fairness, it's not actually meant for casual play. You do kinda need to grind and actually know what you're doing in order to get 36 stars. A casual isn't gonna look this shit up on wikis.
Yeah, the grind and how limited resources is to grind is the reason most people didn't even tried to clear lvl 12 Abyss, let alone 9 star it.
Its easy but with slow and grindy the progression is made it bothersome to tried.
Which is why i think Mihoyo didn't add another endgame yet, because they have full data on how much people have yet to reach that goal yet.

I think the only place it's mentioned are on individual talent descriptions. Both Lynette and Hydro Traveler have mentions on the elemental skills. Lyney has it on his normal attack talent.
This made laugh. Also, they tease the flood so much throughout this patch that I will be somewhat disappointed if we don't see a bit of it before we inevitably stop it.
Hydro Traveler is basically a practicality-oriented character. If you don't roll for Lyney, then they're gonna be your only Pneuma character until the next banner. That's why they have a ranged skill, and also why they're more aggressive than the last two elements. Think of how Geo Traveler was centered around placing Geo constructs.
I don't know why anybody cares about it now even. It's occasionally worthwhile to switch characters if finding an orb for a puzzle is too much effort, but in combat? Everything outside of the abyss (and underwater) dies instantly anyway so who cares? If they put pneumousia stuff in the abyss it might matter at some point.
Not really, asia is like 60-70%, and if we count russia to be europe they make up like 10%. Mutts are like the other 10% that's left after taking the 10% for every other country that's not in asia.

I'd not go for Hu, she's great with a good team comp in the abyss but kinda annoying to use for any overworld stuff since she needs constant healing attention. Yelan is great though needs the right party, Zhongli is very powerful but also in kinda a boring way where he just pops on field, makes a big shield that makes shit easy, then you swap him off for your actual dps to slash away without worry. Works great w/ Ganyu, but like i say also makes it kinda boring.

I'm currently replaying FF14 Heavensward, and it's insane how it did what Genshin wanted to do with Inazuma, but 1000x times better.

Id say that the issue is that genshin's presentation is pretty shit. Heavensward is mostly better because it has more scenes different that just characters in front of each other talking.
Genshin only has good shit with prerendered scenes.
It's also the way the story got treated.
Inazuma's war ended as fast as it came, and the consequences of it were as bad as a slap in the wrist.
The heavensward war just continued on and on, and it really made you think at times that the cause was just hopeless. The ishgardians took a while to recover, while the people of inazuma probably didn't even care if there was a war.
It's just nuts how bad genshin is at making a meaningful narrative.
Well I'd imagine the biggest problem with trying to create a war on Inazuma is the geography. All of Inazuma's population can be boiled down to two islands: Narukami and Watatsumi, each on completely opposite sides of the archipelago. Because Narukami is the central hub for not just commerce and government but also agriculture, there's nothing it actually needs from the outer islands. So unless Watatsumi actually launched a full scale invasion of Narukami, there was almost no real chance of it actually affecting the main populace.
That's the problem, why even make a narrative about a war in a closed country/region, if you aren't gonna do anything with it?
The war had 1/ONE cutscene, and that was it. To this day it still makes me confused what was their reasoning for almost killing the lore of the game with Inazuma.
Because they wanted a callback to the warring states period. There are signs that the story was rushed due to Covid but I can't imagine it would have been very substantial regardless. Like, frankly, NO part of Genshin's map is actually designed to portray a war.

to be fair thats fair criticism. look, i enjoy this game myself but it is god damn true that the dialogue would be much better if it was cut a bit shorter.
I'd imagine part of the issue is that the writers are trying to humanize and endear these character to you, and it doesn't always work. In fact, for some people, it doesn't work at all because some people just don't care about NPCs.
It's also the problem that with the time you spend trying to give the NPC's some kind of humanity, you forget to give the actual playable characters an interesting role in the story. This is one of the biggest problems in genshin as a whole.
I mean the playable characters get Archon Quests, character quests and events.

I feel like this wouldn't be as big of a deal if the NPCs and playable characters used similar models and rigging. I think a lot of people just tune out when they see an NPC model because the assumption is they'll never be part of your party so why bother caring. It basically creates a two-tier system for characters in the game's story which kind of sucks and makes it hard to give a shit about the people we meet.

Trust me, I understand the work involved and technical limitations. I'm just saying that psychologically most people are dismissive of quests featuring NPCs because they don't feel like they are worth emotionally investing into. Which is a shame because we do get interesting NPCs with fleshed out stories, and games need to be able to convey these stories and viewpoints without the assumption that every character we meet will join our party.

Imo the expectation of voiced dialogue was one of the worst things to happen to games. People stop reading or caring the moment something isn't voiced because they assume its not important or worth paying attention to. Morrowind is one of my favorite games because you never know what's going to happen when you talk to someone.

Well the issue with Jakob is that he's an optional character from an optional sidequest. He's not actually a member of the Abyss Order, he's just doing his own thing on his own terms. I don't think the story's even trying to hype him up that much. He's not really as important as the Archons or the Harbingers.
As far as the Abyss Order goes, though, the big issue is that they're too "behind the scenes". All they ever do is send lesser mooks everywhere to do anything. Even Abyss Lecters are just gophers and Abyss Heralds are mere enforcers. The only member of any true note is the Prince/Princess; we don't know if they have any top brass or anything of the sort. I agree that it makes them kinda lame in the grand scheme of things. Notice how wary they of just Jean. They seem to want to do something to Mondstadt, but despite how neutered the Knights of Favonius are at the moment, it's STILL too much for the Abyss Order. These guys are all losers.
That's not story. That's just dialogue for the sake of dialogue. It added literally nothing to the story, the world, or the plot. Thanks for confirming you people who defend this aspect of the game are moronic and probably only doing it to be contrarian.
Do you know what worldbuilding is? Giving you 40 lines of dialogue about the fountain and it's backstory and how it works is worldbuilding. Giving you 3 NPCs that know that shit is worldbuilding. Is it an interesting story in itself? Probably not really. Does it add depth to the world you're playing in? Yes.
That's not world building, that quest didn't define the world, didn't enhance the culture of Fontaine, didn't enrich the backdrop of the narrative in any way, shape or form. You're an idiot.
I don't really care about FF14's plot because I don't really care about any of these characters. None of them are all that endearing to me, and I'm not someone who's capable of sympathizing with fictional characters purely on principle.
I have similar issues with Inazuma. I can't sympathize with the Watatsumi characters at all so I don't really give a frick about their issues. Kokomi and Gorou make me feel absolutely nothing.

Also the twists are pretty badly done, some dude comes in and introduces some magic water and then fricks off like nothing, comes back in again and says we investigated found this and then goes away again. If you read any sort of Agatha Christie like mystery you could have figured out the whole case probably from the moment you saw the clothes or earlier.

Maybe its not the same game as your MMOs and has different mechanics? The entire point of the game is to exploit team synergy. You need to build a functional team.
The point of a team is that it gives you 8 spell slots instead of 2, which you can customize which ones you use. When you put in a different character to your team you are "equipping" their spells, their unique character passives, their weapons abilities and passives, and their artifacts abilities and passives. You're enabling different reactions as well.

Honestly, the impression I got is that Neuvillette doesn't actually know that much about what she's doing behind the scenes. She probably only knows about her research into the prophecy because her contacts are probably on government payroll.

The prophecy states that after Fontaine's been flooded and the people have been dissolved, Furina alone will survive while weeping on her throne. Wouldn't the loneliness be precisely the thing she'd weep about in that scenario? It's as if the voice in the fountain is coming from the future.

If you read the logs during Virgil's quest you find that one of the people they were taking care of constantly kept falling unconscious, people from the Institute kept visiting, there was a point where I think Jakob wanted to swap labs early but he was worried his lab assistant wouldn't find him, etc.
Virgil's entire quest is about showing how they were trying to find alternative power sources to advance their mechs. First they stole some of the Sumeru mechs but they'd short out or fail easily. Then they started getting people to bring them Khaenri'ahn Ruin Mechs and Graders. Then they finally realized from their experimentation that the Abyss energy was something they should look into. >Though we have long observed these unique energies in Fontaine's atmosphere, water, and organisms, it has always been regarded as a latent threat, rather than a potential resource.
It culminated in that unkillable Ruin Grader.

Looks like Arlecchino really isn't a dindu. Arlecchino only recently became the Knave and head of the House of the Hearth (which I guess makes sense, she's fairly young). When the current Arlecchino fought the previous Knave and killed them, she took over his responsibilities. The guy who ordered Lyudochka and tried to poison Inazuma was actually a loyal follower of the previous Knave who splintered off from the group when the current Arlecchino took over, meaning he wasn't acting under her orders.
Also, apparently when Arlecchino killed the previous Knave, she was a child.
Also, the bigger thing to consider is that she killed the previous Knave. She killed a Harbinger as a child. She only became a Harbinger after killing the previous Knave. She killed a Harbinger as a child.
It's hard to say what the power hierarchy of the Harbingers was like during that time. Tartaglia's young so he probably only became the Childe recently. He's the weakest of the Harbingers now, but it's possible that the previous Harbinger was even weaker. Still, Arlecchino the fact that Arlecchino killed a Harbinger before she was a Harbinger herself is pretty impressive. But she's still definitely stronger than Tartaglia.

Catalyst is Neuvilette's BiS and is on par with his 5* right now. R5 beats it.
Bow is usable but I haven't seen anyone try justifying why you'd pick it over the Prototype Crescent or even the Viridescent Hunt.
Spear is so situational and in like 99.999% of cases you will have a better spear to take advantage of than it.
Claymore is a Dehya stat stick to my understanding. Unless they have someone who constantly applies Pyro to you I have no idea why you'd ever pick it over the Serpent Spine.

They don't really serve a purpose at all. The catalyst is primarily for future characters like Neuvilette, not characters out now outside of arguably Baizhu.

it doesnt feel like a second job, there isnt a bloat of useless dialogue, the combat gameplay is without a doubt, better than genshin's swap/rotation based combat, the character designs appeal to my tastes, and i prefer the simple corridors over huge open world areas with tons of stuff to collect utilizing mediocre traversal options

Raiden scene was all show, it felt undeserved with how poorly the story was prior to it. Nobody cared if Signora died, and people only pretended to care about Ei because she is hot, even if her reason for stop fighting was moronic as hell. Traveler felt like he/she didn't do anything for the entire region's story.
Shadowbringers was the complete opposite, aquiring Ardbert's help was something that you've been wanting to see the whole expansion, and you knew he was part of you prior to this scene. It also made use of every main character so far, including the crystal exarch. Inazuma characters in comparison didn't do frickall when it was time to storm the shogun palace. That scene with Kazuha using the other vision almost made me laugh because it also felt so underwhelming in a narrative point of view.

I quit this shit after the end of a realm reborn, when after watching a 40 minute cutscene where all your team dies, the queen is killed, and you become a fugitive, it takes a whole 10 minutes before you just return and find out the queen is ok and you're no longer a fugitive. Turn out later literally every member of your team but 1 comes back anyway.

Hydro Traveler is basically a practicality-oriented character. If you don't roll for Lyney, then they're gonna be your only Pneuma character until the next banner. That's why they have a ranged skill, and also why they're more aggressive than the last two elements. Think of how Geo Traveler was centered around placing Geo constructs.
I'm not building hydro traveler to mini stun some mobs and do some puzzles when the skills are just so bad. The watergun looks fun at least.

I'd not go for Hu, she's great with a good team comp in the abyss but kinda annoying to use for any overworld stuff since she needs constant healing attention. Yelan is great though needs the right party, Zhongli is very powerful but also in kinda a boring way where he just pops on field, makes a big shield that makes shit easy, then you swap him off for your actual dps to slash away without worry. Works great w/ Ganyu, but like i say also makes it kinda boring.

Id say that the issue is that genshin's presentation is pretty shit. Heavensward is mostly better because it has more scenes different that just characters in front of each other talking.

It's also the way the story got treated.
Inazuma's war ended as fast as it came, and the consequences of it were as bad as a slap in the wrist.
The heavensward war just continued on and on, and it really made you think at times that the cause was just hopeless. The ishgardians took a while to recover, while the people of inazuma probably didn't even care if there was a war.
It's just nuts how bad genshin is at making a meaningful narrative.
Well I'd imagine the biggest problem with trying to create a war on Inazuma is the geography. All of Inazuma's population can be boiled down to two islands: Narukami and Watatsumi, each on completely opposite sides of the archipelago. Because Narukami is the central hub for not just commerce and government but also agriculture, there's nothing it actually needs from the outer islands. So unless Watatsumi actually launched a full scale invasion of Narukami, there was almost no real chance of it actually affecting the main populace.
That's the problem, why even make a narrative about a war in a closed country/region, if you aren't gonna do anything with it?
The war had 1/ONE cutscene, and that was it. To this day it still makes me confused what was their reasoning for almost killing the lore of the game with Inazuma.
Because they wanted a callback to the warring states period. There are signs that the story was rushed due to Covid but I can't imagine it would have been very substantial regardless. Like, frankly, NO part of Genshin's map is actually designed to portray a war.

I'd imagine part of the issue is that the writers are trying to humanize and endear these character to you, and it doesn't always work. In fact, for some people, it doesn't work at all because some people just don't care about NPCs.
It's also the problem that with the time you spend trying to give the NPC's some kind of humanity, you forget to give the actual playable characters an interesting role in the story. This is one of the biggest problems in genshin as a whole.
I mean the playable characters get Archon Quests, character quests and events.

I feel like this wouldn't be as big of a deal if the NPCs and playable characters used similar models and rigging. I think a lot of people just tune out when they see an NPC model because the assumption is they'll never be part of your party so why bother caring. It basically creates a two-tier system for characters in the game's story which kind of sucks and makes it hard to give a shit about the people we meet.
It's unreasonable to give every single character a unique model though. Why do you think everyone in the Adventurer's Guild wears the same uniforms except the Traveler?
Trust me, I understand the work involved and technical limitations. I'm just saying that psychologically most people are dismissive of quests featuring NPCs because they don't feel like they are worth emotionally investing into. Which is a shame because we do get interesting NPCs with fleshed out stories, and games need to be able to convey these stories and viewpoints without the assumption that every character we meet will join our party.
If story related npcs had unique visuals they would definitely be better received but the main reason people hate all the dialogue is because it isn't voiced, and because it isn't voiced they get their D team writers writing most of it so it's a double negative.
Imo the expectation of voiced dialogue was one of the worst things to happen to games. People stop reading or caring the moment something isn't voiced because they assume its not important or worth paying attention to. Morrowind is one of my favorite games because you never know what's going to happen when you talk to someone.

If you have an entire storyline focusing on a group developing them and hyping them up to the player but they all look the same as no name npcs it's hard for the player to care about them even if the story does get care, this isn't even a problem specific to jakob and his group, it's a problem of every single antagonist aside from the fatui
Well the issue with Jakob is that he's an optional character from an optional sidequest. He's not actually a member of the Abyss Order, he's just doing his own thing on his own terms. I don't think the story's even trying to hype him up that much. He's not really as important as the Archons or the Harbingers.
As far as the Abyss Order goes, though, the big issue is that they're too "behind the scenes". All they ever do is send lesser mooks everywhere to do anything. Even Abyss Lecters are just gophers and Abyss Heralds are mere enforcers. The only member of any true note is the Prince/Princess; we don't know if they have any top brass or anything of the sort. I agree that it makes them kinda lame in the grand scheme of things. Notice how wary they of just Jean. They seem to want to do something to Mondstadt, but despite how neutered the Knights of Favonius are at the moment, it's STILL too much for the Abyss Order. These guys are all losers.

Your evidence ends up being Lyney saying he went to the vent. In normal puzzle games it makes you wonder how you'd prove that, but the game just sorta expects you to use those words as the actual rebuttals rather than having evidence he went there.

Also the twists are pretty badly done, some dude comes in and introduces some magic water and then fricks off like nothing, comes back in again and says we investigated found this and then goes away again. It just wasn't handled well, like that's not really how mystery games build drama or suspense it felt rushed. I'm not saying it can't happen, it just wasn't done well.
If you read any sort of Agatha Christie like mystery you could have figured out the whole case probably from the moment you saw the clothes or earlier.

When you play WoW do you only use 2 abilities?
The point of a team is that it gives you 8 spell slots instead of 2, which you can customize which ones you use. When you put in a different character to your team you are "equipping" their spells, their unique character passives, their weapons abilities and passives, and their artifacts abilities and passives. You're enabling different reactions as well.

I'm curious about the crying in the fountain though. It seems to be Furina, but I'm not sure if it entirely meshes with the internal monologue she had during the trial. The voice's lines, specifically the "loneliness" part is a bit suspect to me.
The prophecy states that after Fontaine's been flooded and the people have been dissolved, Furina alone will survive while weeping on her throne. Wouldn't the loneliness be precisely the thing she'd weep about in that scenario? It's as if the voice in the fountain is coming from the future.

Yeah, it's confusing which is why I want to hear other people's ideas. If you read the logs during Virgil's quest you find that one of the people they were taking care of constantly kept falling unconscious, people from the Institute kept visiting, there was a point where I think Jakob wanted to swap labs early but he was worried his lab assistant wouldn't find him, etc.
Virgil's entire quest is about showing how they were trying to find alternative power sources to advance their mechs. First they stole some of the Sumeru mechs but they'd short out or fail easily. Then they started getting people to bring them Khaenri'ahn Ruin Mechs and Graders. Then they finally realized from their experimentation that the Abyss energy was something they should look into.

Looks like Arlecchino really isn't a dindu. Arlecchino only recently became the Knave and head of the House of the Hearth (which I guess makes sense, she's fairly young). When the current Arlecchino fought the previous Knave and killed them, she took over his responsibilities. The guy who ordered Lyudochka and tried to poison Inazuma was actually a loyal follower of the previous Knave who splintered off from the group when the current Arlecchino took over, meaning he wasn't acting under her orders.
Also, apparently when Arlecchino killed the previous Knave, she was a child.
Also, the bigger thing to consider is that she killed the previous Knave. She killed a Harbinger as a child. She only became a Harbinger after killing the previous Knave. She killed a Harbinger as a child.
It's hard to say what the power hierarchy of the Harbingers was like during that time. Tartaglia's young so he probably only became the Childe recently. He's the weakest of the Harbingers now, but it's possible that the previous Harbinger was even weaker. Still, Arlecchino the fact that Arlecchino killed a Harbinger before she was a Harbinger herself is pretty impressive. But she's still definitely stronger than Tartaglia.

Catalyst is Neuvilette's BiS and is on par with his 5* right now. R5 beats it.
Bow is usable but I haven't seen anyone try justifying why you'd pick it over the Prototype Crescent or even the Viridescent Hunt.
Spear is so situational and in like 99.999% of cases you will have a better spear to take advantage of than it.
Claymore is a Dehya stat stick to my understanding. Unless they have someone who constantly applies Pyro to you I have no idea why you'd ever pick it over the Serpent Spine.

No, I don't have it. We already know all the abilities of them and their R5 stats because of datamining and private servers. You can literally read what they all do from the BP menu and we've already seen a damage calc on Neuvilette a few days back which shows that the catalyst is on par with his 5* weapon just at R1. Just look at the effects they have, most notably the spear which increases EM if you have every party member of a different type, and the claymore which only buffs you if you are affected by Pyro specifically. They don't really serve a purpose at all. The catalyst is primarily for future characters like Neuvilette, not characters out now outside of arguably Baizhu.
As far as I could tell the buoys don't do anything but act as an area where 3 or 4 jellyfish spawn underneath it.

If Pneuma/Ousia becomes mandatory for Floor12 abyss 3* clears I will no longer bother with Floor 12. Missing 150-300 primogems a month is literally nothing. And anyone insisting otherwise is mentally ill and seek help.
