When I'm trying to wind down after work, I like having a consistent experience. The dailies and spending my resin fill that need. They don't need to be exciting (I'm tired after work). They just need to be easy and mildly enjoyable.
If I play some multiplayer game, I might go on a losing streak. If I play some singleplayer non-gacha game, I might run into some difficulty spike, or run into some puzzle that I can't solve, etc. The end result is that I won't even have enough time left in the day to play another game to try to recover my mood, and end up going to bed frustrated and miserable. That would end up affecting my sleep quality, and might negatively affect my mood for the next day as well.
So it's either gachas or MMORPGs. And I don't play MMORPGs because I'm not a boomer or gen X.
On the weekends, I play through any time limited events in Genshin, plus "normal" games like adventure games, strategy games, etc. Then I have enough time and energy to push through any difficult parts of the games. But on weekday nights, I only have a few hours to relax before bedtime.

I do have a reading related hobby on the side. It's called Arknights. The time limited event stories are novel-length. It feels less like another gacha and more like I joined a damn book club.
I'm a klutz and cannot be trusted with sharp objects. So regular cooking is out. I suppose baking is viable, but I'm watching my weight, and teaching myself the ability to create desserts and casseroles on demand seems like a bad idea.

Here's a tip bro: for each and every one of these gacha service games, eventually the server will shut down and you will not ever be able to play it again. All that investment will still be lost. That day is coming and there's nothing you can do to avoid it. If it's going to be later, it can just as well be now.
You are not "preparing" for anything like you keep telling yourself. You grind for the sake of grinding. There's nothing to do after you've peaked and obtained and maxed out all the characters you want and finished the story. The motivation will be gone. There is no end game. The repeatable bosses you only even bother to fight for the sake of obtaining something to improve your character or get a new one. It's not a task you enjoy for itself. Once you have max stats with the most effective build, there is nothing left for you to do and there's no reward for having the best account.
on the bright side if the game's still popular you can just sell the account and get back your money, but you have to be quick, before the hype dies

Secondly, I could stop playing Genshin for probably two years and be able to come back and still be able to crush any enemy and progress all story quests without AR wienerblocking me. The game suffers from reverse powercreep and you can reach the end of the current story in a less than a week. If you spent "Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours" you could drop the game for fricking four years and come back and still destroy the entire main story with no timegating or challenge.
There is nothing no way to "fall behind". It's a piss easy single player game. If you're actually forcing yourself to log-in you are actually brain dead. Any "FOMO" items like free skins and weapons are spaced out months apart and can be grinded in a couple of hours.
I was so happy when I got WGS from standard but I soon realized that the game became easy because of it and my feelings were hurt. But after a while you enter a new stage of enjoyment even when enemies die instantly, it's weird.
I like the characters, the setting, exploring the world and elemental reactions.
Combat could be better, but utilizing reactions amps it up at least

There is a lot about Genshin that I don't mind that I could see plenty of people finding tedious. There are countless long winded lectures about off screen cultural practices (mostly fricking cooking) that go on for ages. I like them but plenty of people button mash to skip. Also World quests such as the ones for Tsurumi, Enka, and Chasm are not voiced and extremely text heavy at times. Even though I enjoyed them, especially chasm, I started to feel fatigued at multiple parts.
The game would be fricking godly if every line of text was voiced. It's probably the biggest thing that drags the game down which is crazy because like you said, those areas are still amazing.

I've always found it funny when people say the combat is anything negative because it's simple(not a bad thing ) with fricktons of depth(also not a bad thing) meaning there definitely is a skill ceiling that's far above what normal players reach and yet it's chill and varied and thus doesn't get repetitive or too demanding. It's got a great combat system.
Check out Wuthering Waves, it's the only actual Genshin clone being made. ToF is just an MMO.
Yea the combat is fun imo, only thing that sucks is its targeting a casual market so the only form of difficulty we're really seeing so far is a HP sponges and timers in abyss. Also would fricking love some more enemy density but it being mobile I don't see that happening. When I look at other games like Honkai there is just so much flashing/explosions and enemies have multiple health bar layers, its just too over the top for me.
I got an eye on Wuthering Waves, but something about the aesthetic seems kinda desaturated and less appealing to me. Will still definitely give it a try if its look good, mobility and combat look fun from the glimpses I saw.
I agree with you completely. More abyss floors that were impossible without whaling would make the f2p journey all the more interesting and more enemies would just be a lot of fun.

He's fun but not needed for anything. He's like a Sucrose sidegrade but with some more variety.
As someone who was VERY hyped for him despite his boring as shit visual design he's most likely a pass to most. His skill can bit like a fricking truck, 50k+ with solar pearl and mediocre VV artifacts. But his autos, despite looking super cool, are weak and not as satisfying as I hoped for. A little slow with ATK speed buffs. Also his CC might as well not fricking exist.
He's a fun enough to where I'll take him off the bench every now and then, but he'll probably stay on the bench for majority of the time. Much better anemo units and Dendro is around the corner. I do really hope for more catalyst brawlers.
His main problem is that his skill cooldown is too long and his burst has effectively no CC. So even though his normals swirl, since you're always pushing enemies back it's hard to keep everyone grouped up. You never get that classic anemo feeling where you're fricking shit up with swirls, and his skill cooldown makes it so you don't feel like you're fricking shit up with your big punch too.
I wish his C6 let you wipe the punch cooldown with max stacks or something, that would make him awesome.
4* is never worth a roll. You will get him eventually anyway, so roll only for desired 5*.
