I'm not going to respond to a gnome thread with an OP pic like this ... well shit. Do better next time.
I'm something of a scholar of Gnomish lore myself.

What kind of relations do gnomes have to other species/cultures in your setting? They occupy a sort of middle ground between hobbits and dwarves kind of. Do them compete with them, cooperate with them, or simply occupy a distinct niche?
They are a dwarven species.
I do the same, they are just dwarfs than aren't related to the seven big nations of dorfs or they sucessor tribes. They tend to live above ground a lot more and have smaller societies.
what's with this trend in the last few years of asking new prompts in dead threads?
why should the thread be dead, it's about gnomes, not fricking gay twink elves
Dwarves are mountain folk, halflings are agricultural "country folk" while gnomes are the magical folk that live in forests and bogs.
All three of them are considered the burrowing folk for their tendency to live underground but while dwarves live in their mountain holds of stone and halflings live in nice comfortable houses in their hills gnomes live in warren like dwellings usually under a tree. Gnomes are known for being fantastic herbalists and alchemists while also having a penchant for being chaotic and disorganized. Gnomes also tend to be closer to nature than their burrow cousins.
I like them as low level fae
Whimsical little forest shitheads that'll steal your shoes and invite you to a dirt-gaze concert at the clearing
gnomes are basically the halflings to my fairies. quaint little buttholes who like to mess with people who enter their forests, but they lack the bloodlust or empire building of their fairy cousins. for most part most other races get along with them just with wealthy humans and orcs being know to pay old gnomes to live in their lawn, simply because they think its funny
Reminds me when England nobles paid for hobos and heremits to live in they lawns.
>hobbits are off limits
Why?
because it belongs to Amazon™
there's a reason Gygax named those halflings
Wil Huygen gnomes are GOAT. DnD gnomes kind of suck. WoW gnomes are fricking abysmal.
Objectively true
What if I told you you can like gnomes without shitting on dwarves and hobbits.
i would reject that notion outright. dwarves and elves a fricking gay as shit, and hobbits are out of bounds.
You know it's not like Andy Jassy will come to your house and flagellate you if you use hobbits in a game of pretend, right?
Dis is my Saurus Scar Veteran with Charm of the Jaguar and greatweapon for my counts-as Skink Cohort Southlands army. I did some other touch ups later after I took these pics (mainly fixed the pattern on the helm) and haven't taken new pictures yet.
I wanted to do a gnoblar horde, but that's like 1,000 models I don't want to buy. Skinks were the next closest thing, I reckon, plus I have a 6th. Edition Slaan still in its box.
My army fluff is that the gnomes guard a Lizardman temple deep in the Southlands on an isle with giant bugs and terror birds. The number of actual Lizardmen is really small, limited to basically some Temple Guard and Slaan Mage Priests. Many would-be looters who try to penetrate the shores of this mysterious island have only their remains to be found by the next group of adventurers who mistakenly set foot in the Garden of a Thousand Jade Poisons. Unsettling to the new group are the child-shaped bite marks sunken into the bones.
Chameleon Skink WIP. I finished these and haven't taken the new pics yet.
Great conversion work and painting on this one. Didnt realize this was one of tom masons minis, his videos have helped me out a great deal in learning to sculpt.
Absolute crime he doesn't have more subs. He's worth watching just for the armature tutorials.
I wouldn't have made the fur have as much texture, though, in hindsight. It interferes too much when making the spot pattern. Would have been better to just free hand the texture on a smooth surface.
Ye they're pretty comfy
I love this little piggie knight.
Gnomes should be earth fae/spirits/elementals, dwarfs should be mountain/hill folk, and hobbits should be a short tribe of humans living in small isolated communities.
Love the idea of a Gnome country called Gnomish Nation Of Mighty Engineers or G.N.O.M.E.
That would be neat, unfortunately the tinker gnome archetype fricking sucks
