I don't see these games discussed much here. Just got Gates of Hell on sale and considering you have to get the cat turd with it, at least now the price is reasonable. Anyway, played the first Wehr mission and it was Blitzkrieg levels of bullshit with Soviets entrenched and fielding arty. Infantry gets shwacked, tanks get shwacked and thank God you at least can get that one mortar. Feels like they insist you rely on direct control, which is kinda shit, but at least you can have a light tank-sim experience. I think MOW games in general made an overall better first impression and Vietnam gets a lot of undeserved shit from brainlets who complain there are no tanks in a game about a conflict that didn't have tank battles.
Any tips for someone who's been spoiled by Graviteam and forgot how to micro? Which mods should I get?

The Hotmod mod
Oh wow, a Cold War mod, my favorite! Thanks, anon.
i tried the first infiltration mission for mowas2 "arsenal" and kept getting destroyed. what the hell am i supposed to do to make it to the tower and not get caught?
If you have no unit selected you can click on an enemy unit within sight and get their view angle.
I hate how units don't shoot while moving in this game even though they can when controlled by you. Fix that and it will be a 10/10. Without it clearing areas with infantry is a nightmare because they have to stop before they can shoot back.
Also it needs to have the Waffen SS.
Turn on free move.
On the one hand it's kinda realistic, moving and shooting isn't something that really works. The direct control thing is super arcade and while fun, I wish it wasn't there or at least that it wouldn't be that effective. Supposedly the devs wanted to get rid of it, but they buckled under the pressure of fanboys. I'd rather have a reliable attack-move command, than pretend I'm rambo. If snipers could actually stay hidden in this game, they'd be OP as frick.
i like both games for their editor, its the only thing i use tbh
is MoW community still alive?
thinking about getting it while it's on sale
It is, but most people moved to Gates of Hell. If you want to do singleplayer, any game is fine as there is steady stream of user made content, but for multiplayer, I think GOH will probably have more active players. MOWAS2 will get you thousands of hours of gameplay though with all the mods there are, just don't expect to be playing them with other people, unless you actually do the effort to find people to play with.
Nah the vast majority of GOH lobbies are people too stupid to figure out SP skirmish and as such host a lobby just to fill it with bots.
You can get 2v2s and 1v1s but good luck getting a 3v3 which is objectively the best way to play the game.
>thousands of hours of gameplay with the braindead AI
The shitty AI is the the biggest drawback to the game. Next to the poor stability
When the frick are the devs going to rework conqeust?
Apparently they're working on a new faction. Hopefully it doesn't take them entire year like Finland.
I personally hope for Hungary/Romania. Polish Army in the East would be also cool to see, but communist Poles wouldn't have any unique vehicles/weapons, I'm afraid. It would be all Soviet tech.
inb4 ITALIA
G-d I hope so, i just need my cute tankettes and 20mm AT rifles
It's suspicious that Valour in GOH:O has Hungary and Italy but no Romania, when it's all assets from MoW AS2s Valour and that has Romania.
rolling for Waffen SS. You can include all other Axis power by including Waffen SS
GOH is severely underrated, easily my favorite ww2 game atm
also what does this board think of robZ for assault squad 2?
Robz Mod is ok also Robz is one of the developers on GOH
Robz is the best mod imo
what piece of shit decided to make the US story missions revolve around stealth shit? this fricking sucks.
>US Story missions
Wrong game, the US isn't in GoH.
>GOH/MOWAS2
are you blind or just moronic?
The US campaign in MOWAS2 is "Skirmish missions", only Bastogne is a "stealth" mission, and even then, you can play it like every single other mission in the game, as throwing grenades willy nilly and having long running fire fights with the Germans don't fail the mission.
Unless you are talking about MOW1/AS2:Origins, but then you should say so, because you might as well be talking about MOW:Vietnam then.
these 2 are stealth missions where you control Americans through a story about north africa. it's actually called Foxhunt, but i was too lazy to open the game and look at the name when i made the post.
Those are MOW/AS2:Origins missions, you are litterally playing another game's campaign in AS2.
theyre shit.
so the devs say they are planning to completely overhaul and rework the conquest system. does anyone know what they are aiming for? in gates of hell.
They have been vague on details. I do recommend the conquest enhanced mod but try playing on normal since the difficulty is upped quite a bit.
Ive been using that mod and its a lot better. I did hard as recommended by the mod author and it is pretty damn difficult. I got spammed by bunch of tanks on like the 2nd defense mission, including 3 or 4 t-34s. Barely managed to hang on with the german infantry gun and heat shells.
I heard it gets even crazier later on with artillery, mortar barrages and paradrops
Ultimate 40k mod for AS2 is probably the best 40k strategy game we have gotten in the last 10 years
Why is the narrator so fricking awful? Did they hire some youtuber?
I've played 68 hours so far on GoH and every single one of those 68 hours have been on conquest, I love this mode
Currently doing a US vs USSR campaign
based conquest enjoyer
I've been trying a few different ones, want to get into a long one soon. germans with the MACE mod to add more random shit is pretty fun
I remember playing the dcg mod for men of war waaaaaaaaay back in the day so having it properly built into the game is just perfect for me
Conquestchads represent.
RobZ's being hired into the devteam was the best thing for this game. Currently running a co-op game with some random normie with Conquest Enhanced + HangEmHigh's sound & damage & HangEmHigh's compability patch. Could use a 3rd guy.
conquest enhanced got a bit tedious for me, even on normal every single attack point has multiple AT guns, MGs, mines and flak guns. And theyre pretty well hidden too. it was just too obnoxious to ever advance imo. maybe you have some advice?
Artillery
ill try going for artillery tech early on this time, but this time im playing as the soviets. how do you guys like to upgrade tech in general anyway?
always do this
abuse binoculars from the officer and cannons/mortars
How's the performance in GOH?
I remember every single Mow game having shit performance as soon as too many units spawned.
same question here, it seems it has better performance but then again I'm not sure
Also how is the valour mod for USA and UK? does it has good models for units or its MOWAS 2 quality wise? does it changes gameplay? I kinda liked the long range from vanilla GoH from what I have seen
It's simply better. I'm a techlet but I remembere reading some devblog where they explained that engine is coded in 64 bit instead of 32, or something like that. And it's noticeable, MOWAS2 with mods takes ages to load, GoH loads in about 30 seconds, sometimes even less.
>there are unironically people like this
I played a 25min match and came back and they were still trying to get their mods synced up
I've enjoyed fricking around in single player for these games since MoW1 but the multiplayer/modding community is the most moronic bunch of braindead ESL autists out there.
If i don't buy talvisota do i get locked out of certain mods?
I think it's shown when a mod requires certain DLC.
this game has the shittiest pathfinding and LoS AI i've seen in any RTS game ever
What does 'modding sdk' imply? I'm already seeing plenty of mods.
Probably updated tutorials, some extensions for programs like blender if we are lucky.
It is not like it is hard to mod the game, it is just know how and not having access to 3dx Max that is the main barrier.
