It's dumb, shallow but still somewhat fun. They call it an rpg mode, but all you do is basically fight a ton of trash mobs the some way you do normal fights. They jump in from above or left and right and you beat them until you go to the next screen. Starts off slow, but later on the game throws a ton of them at you so that you can continuously combo which is when things get somewhat fun. Still shallow. You also fight other characters with some added mechanics and then some big monsters which is where the mode actually shines. Still the same hammering down on their big health bars until they do their big ass moves that you have to dodge in a specific way. Presentation, music and animation work really well here and make it quite a spectacle.
You level up characters, which basically just affects health and damage, and gather tons of weapons, which you also have to upgrade in various ways. They added some gacha-like mechanics about collecting crystal and weapon-tickets.
Haven't beaten it yet, story is your usual nonsense and convenient excuse to fight characters that then join you. You can take an additional characters with you on the missions. Writing does a well enough job at introducing those characters. >arcade mode
You fight seven dudes until the boss and then game over.
Both the browser game and the fighter need sequels desperately. GBF is a low-budget grindfest that's severely outdated compared to cygames' other babies. Versus is too simple and has a shit netcode with dead online.
Hopefully re;link is fun but considering the development hell it's been going through, I have rock bottom expectations.
