The game itself still holds up but "HD" in this instance means poorly upscaled sprites. The graphics are blurry and there's some horizontal tearing that they couldn't be bothered to fix.
If you can't be arsed to emulate Grandia this is fine, everything other than the mushy visuals works a treat.
The central plot revolves around trying to uncover what happened to an advanced civilisation that went extinct. There's a lot of exploring ancient ruins.
This is delivered from the point of view of an adolescent lad trying to do his deceased adventurer father proud. There's coming-of-age story elements present throughout, with the characters maturing throughout the course of the game.
You can talk to every npc to learn interesting worldbuilding info about local culture if you want to.
The voice acting is funny bad, which can detract from serious moments, but it has its own charm.
what are the combo and critical commands for?
and does timing of attacks matter at all? ie, if Iwait for 2 characters to go into active mode and order them both to attack at the same time do i deal increased damage?
When an enemy is hit with a combo, their IP marker will stay still. By hitting them multiple times, it keeps their marker still longer.
A Critical attack will move their marker back up the IP gauge. Crucially, a Critical attack can CANCEL an enemys attack if their IP marker is charging a spell, charging a skill, or executing an attack.
Critical attacks have a long wind-up animation, so they can be hard to time. Therefore, you can have your ally keep an enemy's IP marker still with combo while you execute a critical attack.
It's all about calculating how much time you have to counter your enemies.
Is a monster about to hit Sue? Quickly use combo to delay it's attack (and get bonus "counter" damage!) then have Sue use Critical, cancelling the enemy's turn!
1 unironically touched me
its probably a little dated now but give it a chance. it has a very unique kind of battle system, and the way you learn moves makes you want to play characters a certain way
That's exactly why I could never get through Grandia 2. The main guy is edgy & angsty. He grows up a little bit by the end but he's still fricking annoying. It's nothing like Grandia 1 where Justin matures throughout the entire game and then ends it by having hundreds of kids with Feena.
Grandia tainted my heart. I was truly invested into the series and thought the Grandia series was all about adventures, the heart of exploration with a huge and lovely cast of characters. Also unskippable battle animations so every fight is cool to watch but drags on while you are exploring the monster infested areas. Grandia2 was really gritty and edgy, but it had a lot of QoL improvements, especially clarity over skill learning and upgrades and no reliance on missable mana eggs.
if you have to ask then no
If you like JRPGs, yes.
Yes.
This just reminds me of the Grandia Redux mod. Hope the modder just quit and didn't die.

Sex with Sue.
yes, very gud. grandia is the bestest jrpg out there
Yeah it's pretty damn good so far. Fun combat. How far am I Ganker? Met gadwin and I'm now exploring the tower of typhoon
I hope you're playing with Japanese voice acting
You have almost finished disk 1 of 2
yes
idk about HD just play the original
Yes
it's an 70 hour game full of adventure
i think it's very good in that aspect
Loved 2, haven't touched 1 yet.

Is 2 good? Played it for like 10 mins back in the day and the main dude seemed kinda edgy and annoying
It’s alright, 1 is definitely better but 2 isn’t so bad. The plot of 2 gets better later on but it has a bad intro.

The actual Grandia 2 is Xenoblade 2
Grandia 1, 2 and even 3 are all excellent games if you can tolerate older games at all.

Is this the best jrpg main theme ever? I still get chills every time i hear it
No. https://youtu.be/Y4XbtqZK7KA

Recently beat 1 and 2 on steam and got all the achievements. Really enjoy the combat system. I hope they remaster xtreme and 3.
Is there much of a difference between the Saturn and PSX versions?
I doubt either comes with Jap audio and English subs, huh?
Saturn has better graphics. For Jap audio on psx and Saturn you need to download an undub. HD version has Jap audio.
Thanks anon.
This would've been the definitive version if they used the saturn version as the base
Why? What's so different about Saturn aside from ground textures.
Yes. Would go so far as to say it is the best JRPG on PS1.
It is but I prefer 2
