i've owned grim dawn for years but never played it. should i play it? i thought it was old, but it's getting an expansion now?

Considering it came out in 2016 it would be almost a decade old by this point, but it's still fairly good. Do be aware, the game is not like Diablo (the modern ones) so there isn't any real handholding. If your build is bad, even on normal you'll know real quick, and on Elite and Ultimate it only becomes more obvious. It is however, great on gear and build variety where "most" of what you can think of will probably work provided you have the gear to make it work. It does however have a slow as shit start with things not really picking up until you get closer to the 3rd act. Otherwise I'd say if you like ARPGs this is probably still one of the better ones you can get.

Lots of qol stuff, a difficulty you can nicely set up for yourself and a nice character build experience
Only thing I dislike is that you fight green glowing monsters pretty much the entire game, the monster design variety is pretty shitty. But overall its a surprisingly great game, Im happy that I gave it a try two years ago. I recommend it

A recent patch might've changed that, it gave polearms their own animations now so who knows, maybe more damage converters got the fancy color change as well.

I started playing recently. Killed the Black personman the cultists were trying to summon (Loghorean or some such). This is the most I've ever gotten into an ARPG. I thought the genre just wasn't for me, but this seems to keep my attention.
