I am of the opinion that R* is the one who leaked the gameplay footage as a test run of community reaction to a female protag. There is no backsies once a trailer drops, but anything in the leak can be waved off as test material never meant for the final product

There is absolutely zero evidence that the leak showed years of work. For all we know it’s a slightly reworked V (the driving we see is very clearly still V mechanics) created for testing purposes, or possibly even as someone else suggested, to intentionally leak for unfiltered feedback
Check the dates on the videos. They already have character models done, a script written, voice lines. They are not changing the main characters, so much other stuff would have to be changed as well. And it was absolutely not a fake leak. Some employee fell for a phishing email, happens all the time.

Don’t forget all GTAO mission updates for the past 2-3 years make it impossible to shoot bystanders in interiors. Which means if the enemy AI runs within proximity of a stripper or something, your ability to shoot is completely disabled and you get dropped

It would've won more if not for Dad of War. RDR2 is a top ten selling game of all time. It did that with a robust story mode and highly detailed open world. Nobody bought that game for online mode. Rockstar would be pants on head moronic if they didn't translate that kind of storytelling and open world immersion to their flagship franchise. They can't go for a silly story two times in a row on their flagship franchise.

Already proved that wrong, but story games still sell. RDR2 proves this. The Witcher proves this. Cyberpunk proves this, and it launched a shitshow. Online doesn't last forever, and GTA Online WILL die one day. It'd be pretty fricking stupid to bank your whole business on something that could collapse in a matter of twenty years or less. A reliable story mode gives them something to fall back on when that happens.
Not even going into how it's apparently going to be "Saints Row Reboot 2" as if that wasn't a massive financial and critical flop. It literally shuttered Volition. What makes you think Rockstar would want to repeat that? Games with Forspoken and Saints Row Reboot writing are guaranteed to be critical flops.

They didn’t go all in on RDR2 online because there is nothing to do with a Wild West setting. Nobody wants to buy 200 horses, they do want to buy 200 cars. GTAO isn’t still getting updates because people don’t like online

Probably not. I expect all IV imports to be cut. Compared to cars added in recent updates they really stand out as being from a 2008 game. Some of the most popular models might get redone with proper assets but it won’t be many. They will also probably take this time to consolidate redundant vehicles. For example, the Roosevelt and Roosevelt Valor have no reason to be two separate vehicles, the only difference is the Valor has mods. For some reason they were really skittish about going back to an old car and adding mods to it.
I am assuming the recent car cut in GTAO was an early measure to prepare players for a lower count in GTA6. Not that the cars will never come, they will just be used as a way to have “DLC” more frequently.
