I got into an argument with my group when it came to playing Fantasy. All they do is just use 6th edition rules and whenever I suggest we try Kings of War or anything non GW they dont want to its insane.
These guys still seethe over AOS too but at the same time all of them are saying Old world coming back will be great. GW burned then once and they still complain over AoS but these morons are excited for old world wtf

You're reminding me of my experiences with the Ninth Age community, and how many of those players hate every attempt at making the game anything that might actually get new players instead of being their security blanket fake WHF 9th edition, even insisting on using GW names for units when giving list building advice, no matter how many times the recipient asks them what the frick they're talking about.
And then when GW announced the Old World, they all started screaming that T9A was dead, because it was always their rebound game.
It's why I'm so cynical towards all the "Get people into OPR and they'll realise what other games can be!" crowd. It's too close to GW. It's too obviously a knock-off. It has to be something different, or it'll only ever be temporary.
KoW is a really good game, but I must admit I am curious about the Old World, against my better judgement.
I think it has to do with the lore, because the lore of KoW don't interest me at all, but its rules are excellent.

To be fair that would require about an hour or two to read up on the rules and most people just want to fricking game. Still doesn't excuse the close-minded attitude alot of GWpigs have.

Not him but I've been using ladadate for a year now, and a couple of months ago I started actively getting messages from Russian and Ukrainian girls, instead of me having to message first.
For the Ukrainian girls, I get it because the entire eastern part of the country is a war zone. For the Russian girls, I think it's more that they can tell they're on a sinking ship.

Based. God speed, anon. They're great games that deserve a lot more players, but man is it a lot of work to build up a crowd to play non-GW stuff. Though I can't really preach, I spent most of a year trying to get a whfb 6e club off the ground, successful in that, but man I wish my own effort at a warzone group had been more successful instead.
I just play older versions of 40k or alternative rulesets like OPR if I just want a simple game without the bullshit of current editions. Really all the push towards you playing the current retail edition is to keep you having a retail legal army, which means GW makes the most money out of you. Meanwhile you can play 40k in much better versions for cheaper if you just ignore what GW shills.
The real answer is people in GW games don't want to be the 2 guys in the corner playing something no one else cares about. For many people the community of GW IP is valuable, having more people to talk about the game is fun. Thats why GW fanboys come crawling back to GW IP, they're addicted to the crowd sizes and engagement more than they are the game. Honestly 90% of the time current GW games are a hot mess oriented around you buying new models in order to have fun (win), or you just get lucky because GW wants to sell off their stock of the faction you really like.

The only way to escape from a GW game is to make enough friends so that you can play whatever system you want. Cleverly, GW has made their games in such a way that anyone who begins playing one immediately begins to lose the capacity for friendmaking, therefore dooming them to only play GW games forever.
