switch 2 implies a new platform, pro implies that it's just a bonus model for current platform. It's why consumers still went for base xbox one / ps4 models when their Pro models were available, they assume it'll still be able to play the games they wanted- not to mention at a lower price.

Iirc all the joycons since the skyward sword ones have shipped with a little shim inside them that keeps pressure on the joystick contacts and staves off drift by a good extra while
1. The foam padding aren't shims.
2. It only comes up in the right Joy-con.
3. It doesn't stop drift or affect longevity.
4. It's been a thing on Joy-con since the Switch's launch depending on the batches. It's not exclusive or related to the Skyward Sword pair in particular.

Seeing as there's no new model in sight, I'm finally going to buy a lite to fix a few issues with the machine (joycons, 720p games blown up to a 42 inch, comfortable shape).
Has anyone else got a lite and can recommend? I honestly like how with the docked model you don't really ever have to worry about deteriorating battery health as you can just perma dock it eventually.
i love my coral switch lite, it sucks that it does not have rumble or TV support, but if you're going to only play with handheld- you can't go wrong with it. The slightly smaller size is also welcomed
Thanks anon, to be honest my main concern is the battery maintenance. I want my console to last for a long time, but batteries are rated for x amount of charges before they lose capacity and given how demanding switch games are, I will be charging possibly twice a day. The Wii U is the same, mine is now obsolete because you NEED the gamepad to use the system and mine lasts less than 45 minutes.
Look into a Wii U Gamepad battery replacements. You no longer need the Gamepad for everything, but I haven't had my Wii U on hand as of late to remember or confirm hitches with the system. The longest battery life you can get for a Switch is either the V2 or OLED, which get the same rating at a range of 4.5-9 hours. The lite is rated for around 3-7 hours. The original launch variation -V1- gets a rating of 2.5-6.5 hours. Pick accordingly and remember that the inclusion of a dock doesn't mean you have to use it. Drift still exists in the Lite, but the modularity of a normal Switch makes maintenance easier. The greater screen size, default availability of support for motion-based games, a larger screen (and an even bigger one on the OLED), multiplayer convenience, and table-top mode all help bolster the versatility of the normal Switches.
I don't know if they're still selling them, but I bought a replacement battery for my Wii U gamepad from Nintendo directly, and it was twice the size as the one that the console ships with.
Ngl the design looks sick af. Might get it as I was planning to get the Switch. Problem is I don't plan to play Splatoon. But it really looks good and will resell at a good price if I ever want to.
