The game is dead and it deserves to be, haven't seen a single person on my friends list playing it since season 2 launched. Gameplay is shit, maps are shit, customisation is shit.

I was incredibly worried about this game from the first time I saw it leading right up until launch.
I then played it and was actually pleasantly surprised by how much sense it made and how much it actually felt like "Halo".
I'm convinced that I should use Ganker by running exactly opposite whatever the popular opinion here is. But that has generally been my opinion ever since I discovered this place.

Most of the guns aren’t recognizable to older fans such as the disruptor or the other electric gun, shotgun doesn’t have the classic skin, mauler but not etc
I enjoyed the gameplay, story was of course meh cause 343 is trash with Halo lore. My main complaint was mainly a pretty empty world but it was all the same, the first Halo gave us snow and desert biomes, Infinite got boring with it's world.

I pirated the single player game and liked it a lot. I've wanted open world Halo forever. You can tell single player has had a ton of content cuts just so they could ship a product. I had a lot of fun but there's no way I'm paying full price for the campaign.
The multiplayer is just a shit show and I can't believe how little content it has considering Microsoft wants it to be a cashcow.

I just got this a few days ago, my biggest issue with it is the writing. I know im not just blowing smoke because I replayed Halo 2 and 3 in preperation and the drop in quality is apparent and disheartening. In old Halos the dialogue felt natural while providing strong characterization, all the characters are military and appropriately act like it. In Halo infinite everyone talks in metaphores and lofty wannabe deep platitudes that are as deep as a puddle and extremely predictable. Im talking the most hilariously predictable baby brained shit. You just ask yourself "if I was trying to sound smart but I was an idiot what would I have the characters say" and they say it. What the frick happened to this franchise?
They were emulating design trends from 6 years ago, probably around when this went into pre-prod. Open world was a massive fricking mistake for this series. It might have been welcomed back then, but in 2021 it's so played out and tired that nobody gave a shit. Besides, Halo 5, it's the worst Halo campaign.

It was just recently revealed that in 2018 they were dicking around with God of War-style cinematics like the third-person going through cave segments.

I have never seen a game developer chase trends to anywhere near the same degree as 343 does. halo 4 was chasing the CoD trend, halo 5 was chasing the e-sports trend, this was chasing the cinematic sony trend, they originally wanted to model infinite's multiplayer after the hero shooter trend, and infinite's campaign chases the open world trend. and NONE of these attempts to chase trends have been successful yet you know that's not going to stop them from trying again with chasing the battle royal trend. it's insane, microsoft desperately needs to clean up that studio

I liked it. I've liked every Halo game. No idea why people are so critical of them. There's definitely a hierarchy though and some are much better than others.

343 is the most incompetent vidya developert to currently exist. It's the prime example of a company that focusses more on diversity hiring than actually bringing in experienced talent.

They had no idea what they wanted the game to be for years. Prototypes would be developed and scrapped repeatedly. It was probably 2-3 different games over the course of its development and the final version we got was probably made in 18 months

I don't know if this is an Microsoft thing or a 343 thing but almost all of the development staff at 343 are contract workers on 18 month terms. Meaning that through the 6 years of development, most or all of the staff had to be turned over and retrained and caught up to speed several times. You can imagine how fricking bad that would be for maintaining a stable development pipeline
Put all these together and you get what we saw: A barely-finished barebones product with very little post-launch support because nobody on the team knows what they're doing and they're too busy putting out fires and unraveling tech debt to focus on making and shipping content.

It's a Microsoft thing. Modern Microsoft is collapsing because of this 18 month contract issue on a number of fronts. There is almost zero institutional memory remaining inside the firm.
Bungie consisted of gamers. They only cared about making a fun game. Any elements that didn’t contribute to this was scrapped.
343 consists of developers fresh out of college. They’ve never held a controller and treat games the same way they treat their phone: “New is better!”. That’s why we have some pretty cool graphics but complete dogshit gameplay/story.

I'm absolutely sure. Most of these people probably do grunt work that they're assigned to do. Management makes the big decisions. If you have a problem with story, blame the head writer, if you have a problem with environments, blame the creative director, if you have a problem with the weapons and armor, blame the art director.
The fact is the game looks good and plays very well on everything from the original xbox to the series x, from low to high end PCs and that's pretty impressive.
It's management that makes the giant frickups not the devs. Devs just do as they're told

Open world is tacked on, all objects on said map are indestructible, immovable object's, which makes traversing other than staying on the roads, impossible how that got through play testing is anyone's guess, the traditional linear stuff was okay, other than that, yeah it was crap.
