Counter Strike was slow. Are slow games just bad and fast games just good? That's pretty simple minded.
Half Life was cinematic. Lot's of games were. How is Halo any more cinematic? There's not even that many cutscenes and gameplay is 90% shooting things.
Halo doesn't have health regen. You pick up medikits to heal your health.
Halo is the only arcade, arena style, shooter that's ever done vehicles well because the pace of the game is perfect. You really limit the depth and variety of gameplay when people are zipping around at 100 mph. Not that that isn't fun in its own right but it pisses me off when people act like it's the end all be all and every shooter has to conform to one singular style.
Halo was less cinematic than Half Life and really started to lag behind in that regard once COD got going.

The FPS genre was the death of PC gaming. Before PC games required intelligence to play like strategy games, cRPG, point n click adventure, RTS
then came along a turd called DOOM where you point and click and put color coded key to color coded door, and along with that game came an influx of zoomers to PC. All "boomer shooter" threads you see are just proto zoomers
Thank you. I will say Half Life did try to bring some of that intelligence into the genre. It really was the thinking mans shooter. Everything before was like a toy for 12 year olds.

The PC version had both private servers and full mod support (Halo: Custom Edition). It was one of the best multiplayer games at the time thanks to this.

I spent a lot of hours (more than I care to share) playing the Hyrule maps/gamemodes with randoms after I figured out how to set up ports in my dads router and after I figured out how to get "co-op" maps to function properly I started hosting that aswell.
The one thing that really fricked with the game though was the GOD AWFUL netcode that was so extremely shit that it wasn't uncommon to see people teleporting in 3 different directions constantly even when they had under 80 ping to the server
CE was a vibe and popularized the modern day controller format
I emulated it recently and had fun, despite the shitty controls. I probably should have just got the PC version.

I've played 1,2,3 and can't get over how everything is a huge bullet sponge. The huge crosshair on most guns also makes them feel so weak
