I was hyped when I saw the DK trees for some reason. The fact that you could actually make several builds, dip into the trees of other roles for maximum gains and make builds that ignore/circumvent aspects of a spec you didn't like before was really cool.
Then I realized that those other options are sheer fricking garbage and it still boils down to 2 builds. One for M+, one for raids, zero choice, but now your levelling sucks dick because things and functionalities you had before as baseline, you now have to spend several talent points for which come at an opportunity cost for other, cooler shit.
I really, desperately want talent trees or similar systems of specialization in games, I love tailoring my character around what I like to do, even if it isn't 100% minmaxing, but I have zero trust in Blizzard to do it right and WoW has been mangled into such a disappointing state that no matter what systems you develop, you are always forced to minmax or be benched and declined even for "casual" content.
Not to mention that even Normal mode raids aren't even casual anymore. WoW isnt that bad. It can be salvaged. But if there's one thing I loathed about Shadowlands is that the endgame gearing is atrociously grinding. I couldnt even make alts easily anymore cause I have to grind covenant, THEN soulbinds, THEN get legendaries, THEN I have to run that stupid ass roguelike dungeon for hours just to get legendaries, THEN do dailies. It became a fricking nightmare in what you had to do just to finally be able to do heroics and raids.

Did they fix this shit? I'm honestly thinking of going back to check out before the expansion and I've not played since the end of Legion/beginning of BFA. Did they make it less grindy ? I thought about going back to see it and do everything, get the Ahead of the Curve mount etc.?
After they released the new zone, they made progression for end game a tad easier with level and grind skips, but you still have to go through yet another zone grind for endgame raiding and heroics. It basically feels "normal" now but its still atrociously annoying. You still have to farm regardless of what path you choose. It's just a fricking headache.
I remember playing wow in the beginning, no clue what I was doing, put talents into useless shit because I liked the sound of it, got a random whisper in a raid from another guy playing my class, he explained my setup was useless and linked me to the optimum cookie cutter spec. Felt kinda bad at the time that it made so much of a difference that I couldn't pick things I wanted, but surprise surprise it was way better and suddenly I was now fighting for top dps in my raid group.

Every expansion is more dogshit than the last, the new gamemode that they hyped for months is terrible and nobody plays it, and the only good part of the game (battlegrounds) is hard to monetize.
