Handheld Consoles

Give it to me straight bros, what is the best handheld for retro gaming emulation, both in processing power and price? Specifically Ganecube.

So far the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro seems like the one. Thoughts?

Steam Deck but I am biased because I got it for free

I suppose I should specify that I need it to actually be portable too. Like average smartphone sized.

      Your phone

I need my phone for everything else I use it for. I can’t have an emulator draining the frick out of my battery.

Steam Deck is by far the best emulation handheld in power and price. Handles up to Wii and some PS3 and Switch emulation.

        >I suppose I should specify that I need it to actually be portable too. Like average smartphone sized.
Well then, your current phone or like, a secondhand Galaxy S9 plugged into a USB Gamesir X2 with Dolphin MMJR2. The controller even has a USB charging port so you don't have to deplete the battery as long as you're plugged in. My S9 with controller was my daily driver until I got the Deck. I emulated everything up to PS2 and Gamecube, plus streamed my desktop PC games to it over moonlight.

How much would all that cost?

The Gamesir USB-C controllers cost around $40. Just get that and plug it in when you need to charge.

Used Galaxy S9's go for like $150-200.

Would rather play games on a dedicated device than one that’s forced to do it for the sake of price

    Odin 2 base model, $300

battery lasts forever, great performance. pricey, but the next tier would be ~150-170 for a smaller screen, worse performance, shittier holding, etc. depends how much that extra 150 is worth to you if this is something you plan on using a lot vs rarely.

I think the Retroid pocket 4 pro is the most powerful/capable at the moment for 200 bucks or less.

Pretty much the 4 pro, yeah. There's other options but none that are as small and affordable. Just be aware that while most gamecube games will work fine, it's still android emulators at the end of the day, so it won't be smooth sailing 100% of the time

That’s what I figured. Thanks though! I just ordered my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro so I guess that’s settled. Seems to be the most highly acclaimed.

          display "fixed" by software
These bother me. Why are the displays on this so much worse than the RP3?

          >green display "fixed" by software
It literally was dipshit. Lots of screens look like shit until software gets properly cailbrated, and the review units weren't. Same goes for most "precision" tech.

Pretty sure a ton of the Steam Deck's parts are made across Asia. Hell the back of the device flat out says "Made in China".

And you own 30 variations of the shit, and post in the 60 threads with 500 comments saying which one has the best bs when they are almost all just one big android.

I wish I had over 30 chinkhelds, it'd be fun to mess around with them. They aren't really "one big android" though due to spec differences.

I dont the value of the RP4 or RP4 pro. Its clearly not "flawless" gamecube or PS2 emulation, and requires tons of tweaking to get games working, and theres no guarantee that games wont suddenly stop working on same later more demanding level. Even in the youtube videos showcasing gamecube games you can see tons of flaws in the emulation

Why pay extra for a console that doesn't really do anything the RP3 can't? Just save your money or go for the Odin 2

      because shill campaign
also its smaller so its more comfy to play

The RP2S seems like a much better value to me. I just wish the screen was larger.

The RP4 has shown to be leagues above the RP3 though? What the frick is your point? To blatantly lie?

Yes, anyone who describes changing the video driver and resolution scale as "tons of tweaking" is just being hilariously disingenuous.

Depending on the games you want to play, the rp3+ will emulate gamecube pretty good. I played both pokeslop games on mine to the end and no issues, runs them at full speed

Side question, chinks may put out a ton of new handleds but at some point you need better emulation, or not?
