Isn't that because it contained some of the MOHAA people in the original team?
I originally thought it was some kind of sequel to MOHAA. Loved the game.
>CoD was literally codenamed MoH Killer.
He said called, not codenamed.
Let me see a single shred of evidence that magazines called CoD a Medal Of Honor killer.
yes, first week sales on japan were high but it dropped like a boulder the following week and the one year difference between the jp release and the west release did a number on it, pretty much all of the excitement of anyone that was actively following the game evaporated when the jp's release proved it was janky, unoptimized and just a downgrade compared to 4

That's great, it means that they'll release new games. My hope is that they release a A budget game, like this Harvestella game. It's good that Square is entering the game to make some pressure on XSEED.
If they don't step up their game Harvestella will be the new RF, and the series will die.
I'm still waiting for more news though, like having children, marriage, taming, farming and so on. But I do believe that the game will be complete and will have all the features from Harvest Moon and RF. If they are not aware, it's also very possible that SE will release a HM clone too. Since SoS is not as big HM in branding, it means that Marvelous will have to invest in the series or it'll die. For starters they should've bought HM brand/trademark from Natsume (I don't even know what kind of contract that leads to losing the name of a franchise for a company that just ported your game, but okay).

Rune Factory already died for about a decade, I doubt they consider it such a huge priority now. Harvestella still has to prove itself by the time it comes out, and you know how Square Enix is. It might sell two million copies which would be great for a new IP, but they could still consider it a failure. It's way too early to count it as such a serious threat to RF.

I'd like for them all to continue. I can't believe that games like Stardew Valley were successful because of the lack of new, good quality, HM games. It's sad. Square-enix is the first one that's putting real effort. So far it looks great. About SE, I know that Xenogears sold almost 1 million, it was done in like 1 and half year and SE considered it a failure. They are crazy.
I don't know. Square Enix is a bigger publisher than Marvelous and Rune Factory just shit the bed with 5. If there's any chance to kill it, this is it.
rune factory wasn't exactly a "too big to fail" brand name even in its prime. i could actually see harvestella doing better than it just by virtue of having a major company like square enix behind it rather than marvelous.
Publisher doesn't really mean much. Square-Enix has published plenty of terrible flops. But they seem to have had a better record with smaller modestly-budgeted RPGs like this. But I really wish they said who was actually working on this. What studio, what team, what director.
It has a bond system. If there was romance and marriage system, they would need to hate money to not say it out loud in the trailer and on their website.
This is SE we're talking about. They are absolutely dumb enough not to put it in the trailer. Of course, they're also dumb enough not to add it at all.
>the MC is a "Traveler" which means he will most likely leave at the end >the main heroine is from the future and will most likely go back there at the end
Yeah, I don't see romance being on the table at all.
>no marriage
If this ends up being true then this is fricking dropped. I dont need another Innocent Life scenario.
I'm already kind of wary since the squeenix seal of approval tends to be attached to shitty incomplete games being sold at premium prices.
Like what? Whenever I think of modern Squeenix, I think of crap like Babylon's Fall, Left Alive, The Quiet Man, Balan Wonderworld, and all of the Crystal Dynamics crap they put out before selling the company. This looks right up my alley but I don't trust Squeenix at all.
To be fair, if late, RF5 did some incredibly moronic decisions, regarding optimisation. Like, just have a loading screen transition between your farm, the rest of the town and the adventuring areas my man, what you lose in seamlessness, you gain in having more than three fricking frames a second. Plus it's not like it doesn't take five seconds to load anyway, it just happens in front of your eyes.
I wish they at least cut the adventuring areas into their own spaces, we really didn't need to have a seamless transition between the town and outside town.
>Deleting two whole marriage candidates from existence
They still exist just not marriageable. Also it's 3, don't forget Terry who's better than most of the bachelors. Also Hina should be a bachelorette too. DLC cancelled because of homosexualry.

Creating a character swap in some animu cutscenes is infinitely less work than creating DLC. The in-game stuff was doable in an afternoon by one person because everything relevant in the script was pre-flagged.
Deleting two whole marriage candidates from existence
Exhausting all unique dialogue after the first year
Glitchy physics
Random crashes
>Deleting two whole marriage candidates from existence
Three*, and they were scrapped DLC content (the files are literally labeled as DLC in the datamine). Every game in existence has content that never makes it into the final product, moron. They were probably unable to release it because they had to spend all of their time and efforts on fixing the hundreds of bugs that the game launched with. >Exhausting all unique dialogue after the first year
RF4 was exactly the same. Characters had a new dialogue every day for the first year and then in year 2 they immediately started repeating. >Glitchy physics >Random crashes
THESE are why the game is bad. It runs like shit and looks like shit, too.
>No romance, bro. It's just max friendship bonds. >finally thinking we are getting non-pedophile rune factory >instead get Final Faming: Friendship is Magic
Goddammit I hate Japan.
Anyone who thinks this will kill Rune Factory, especially if it has no romance or marriage system is delusional. RF5 sold 500k when it released in the states, and it's releasing on steam in like a week. Ironically if you watch the steam trailer it's like night and day comparing the performance with the switch version, so I imagine a lot of people will double dip just for that.
Old Final Fantasy games used to have affection systems. But who is even developing this game? Is it some studio internal to Squeenix or are they just publishing?
>farming game >squeenix
So either no romance, or the only option is the most bog standard sterile bland two dimensional cardboard princess character that literally not one single person on this entire fricking planet could have feelings for.
Yeah, no thanks. If gameplay proves me wrong, I'll buy it on discount.
Good: >e-girls >farming and fighting look good >female MC
Bad: >English >Squeenix >no romance/yuri >story focused
Yeah not a RF killer or competition at all.
thats a good thing anon
jap males are stubborn, emotionally dumb and physically weak
jap females are weak willed, whiny and ugly as frick
source: 6 years living in tokyo and counting
>t-there will be romance! It just isn't confirmed yet!
The amount of copium in here is worrying. There's literally no reason for them not to advertise something that is a huge staple of the genre, they aren't keeping it a secret or saving it for a later announcement. Please face reality, anons.
im betting its celestials that come down every few years to harvest humans. harvestella. my worst fear? this is all a 5d plan to by nomura to bring back protoFF15 Stella with her own franchise.
>muh marriage
Am I the only one who doesn't mind that?, besides RF where you can take whoever you want to the dungeons, in HM it was just a boring grind for affection points and little to no interactivity
>in before journalists get to interview the devs only for them to not even ask about marriage
I swear there have been several games I've been interested in these last couple of years where journalists never even asked any real gameplay questions, leaving everyone in the dark until the game was released and everyone had to dig up the answers themselves.
If theres no marriage it will be dead on arrival. Sukuna doesn’t have marriage but the farming is specifically about rice so its unique when compared to other farming games, this doesn’t look unique.
It's the farm sim with highest production values I have seen(ignoring farming simulator), art style looks great, you have multiple beautiful towns, etc. Music will probably be great too, main problem is that it's SE
Not that anon but I wouldn't wish it to bomb. 5 wasn't great but it doing well means we'll likely get 6 and it isn't impossible for them to turn things around with that. I don't like counting devs out after a single bad entry if they have a good record before that game.
>Everyone knows the game sold well.
Anon, this is the same board that says Elden Ring flopped. You'd be surprised at how many morons here think that just because they didn't like something, that means it was poorly received.
Except RF5 was poorly received and begrudgingly bought in an almost lamenting manner that maybe the next one will be good and this was teething problems for the developers. Looking at how other games can look on switch I'd say the engine is the biggest culprit and Marvellous being cheap c**ts the second.
SoS: PoOT is one of the best selling games in the entire series and it was trash. A game can be bad and still sell well.
Many game's sales are based on expectations from the previous game or two. Bad games usually have a steep drop off, but it's the game after - even if it's good - that usually suffers.
>tfw only just recently got through chapter 1 because I got the game on a different platform and therefore managed to get monk earlier for 3 characters.
is the MC a guy or a grill? I hate this androgynous shit that plagues Japanese media even after all this time. Other than that, it looks good. Really liking the art direction.
I like it. It's an interesting spin on the formula. Giving you and actual goal on the fighting side helps if the combat is good, which I'm hopeful with since it looks fun at least in the trailer.
Gives a reason for why your crops die overnight for a new season. Probably just means you collect stuff, get some combat training in, and at the last day you beat a boss and get to Summer.
>a season of death ain't comfy
It could be. Preparing throughout the year to make sure you and your neighbors have enough to get through it and everyone tucking themselves in their houses to ride it out sounds like a weird type of comfy to me. Walking around town while most other villagers are too scared to come out and finally going back to your house with a roaring fireplace going while you cook a nice meal with your provisions sounds nice. Probably won't be anything like what I'm imagining but it still sounds nice to me.
After playing many games with marriage and always doing the same shit, no marriage is a great feature for me, I don't want to deal with that shit if it doesn't add anything meaninful pos-marriage
The funniest thing that could happen to this game would be to put in romance, have a Milf and a e-girl Dragon marriage candidates, and proceed to sell a million to blow out the Rune Factory devs.
>overworld >vehicle >party
In the fricking first trailer.
So much soul. Looks so much better than the latest FFs, it's bizarre.
Is the lack of Final Fantasy brand name a requisite to be actually good?
I liked One World. It wasn't the best HM game I ever played, and I wouldn't rank it even as the top ones, but it's not bad. Say what you want about how greedy Natsume is, at least the series was never pozzed under their watch.
In which one? The closest to gay marriage Natsume got was in FoMT girl version where you could have a "best friend" move with you. They were reluctant to add gay marriage for years even though there was a sizeable amount of gays asking for it since the 3DS games.
There is a franchise that exists that could rival almost 1:1 Rune Factory and its probably the original one. The bad news is that is behind a company that is more interested on making Pachinko machines than video games at this moment.
I'd be fine without any romance at all really
If it were a pure farming game then it kind of needs that side element, but given it has combat, there should be enough variety without it. Just look at Sakuna.
I mean Rune Factory 4 is a fricking amazing game, and this doesn't come out until November. And we also don't actually know if it'll be any good, Squeenix can frick up anything. So just keep playing RF4, you won't regret it.
But that's the best one. Rune Factory 5 is the one that sucked and killed the series. They also have very "based" translations. It's like the opposite of treehouse.
>this shit will be 6 hours long, will run at 45fps and it will have dozens of bugs
Still better than RF5's 5 hours long, 15 fps and dozens of bugs even after being patched.
>this and Doraemon SoS sequel coming out soon >both probably won't/don't have marriage system
A bit disappointed, but I really liked Doraemon SoS, starts off really slow, but once the farming starts, it was fun as heck. Beautiful game too. Felt like a proper modernized HM game, unlike the crap that Natsume releases these days. Sandy was the main villager that I tried to "woo". Sizuka is the canon love interest as per usual with Doraemon. I hope Harvestella runs properly, thing is with these SE games, performance is always an issue for PC.
I literally don't care about a game being an "X killer" or whatever. I love Rune factory so much that I'll give any knockoff game a chance if it at least tries to emulate the stuff I like.
It's not exactly hard to compete with this after all. Literally just copy all of 4's systems, put your own twist and improvements on it, add a bunch of cute girls for me to marry and manly bros to dungeon adventure with, keep cancerous localizers away, and make it so it doesn't run like shit and I'll give you my 80 dollars.
should i try 4 or 5?
i loved Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town as a kid
tried Stardew Valley and while i thought it was alright, it didn't keep my interest for long
Why do people get obsessed with a romance/marriage system in these types of games? Go play the Sims. I spend all day on my crops or dungeon crawling, I don’t have time for b***hes homie, there’s work to do
4 is an actual good game. Even if the PC version of 5 somehow doesn't have horrible performance, the game still has a lot of flaws. Combat is massively downgraded compared to 4 and the game in general is weird.

Frontier and Oceans/Tides of Destiny, they bankrupted and were bought by MMV. I believe it was after Lufia and after they cut their contract with Natsume.
4. 5, even if you ignore xseed cancer, is optimized so poorly despite looking so bad that it's almost unbearable for me at times. Every movement has a quarter second delay and it runs at like 15fps, so you feel like you're constantly sliding on ice and always putting in too many or too few actions so combat and chopping trees/stone mining feels like tard wrestling. I feel like there's a good, but low budget game buried underneath a mountain of small problems that just add up to make the experience disappointing.
4 on the other hand is great, even today. It is a port of a 3ds game but it's still of charm and extremely fun. If you don't mind going even further back consider giving 3 a try, it's very dated by now but if you're a fan of these games you can definitely get into it.
From what I can tell, the sliding on ice is unfortunately a game thing and not just a result of poor optimization. In fact, if you fall from any height and use an attack, you end up sliding a ridiculous amount. It's almost comedic.

The big draw for these games since its inception is basically "Living a slow life on the frontier and enjoying nature with your cute trad wife." It's why the otome shit in recent games sours the setting for some people. Though I suppose most wouldn't mind it being split in two versions like Pokemon; one for male candidates and the other for female.
The male/female option for me was never a concern, I'm perfectly fine with it. To be honest I actually like it since it gives me the option to bring the boys on adventures with me, and if the guys are designed to be appealing to girls then at least some will actually be respectable in some way instead of all comic relief or completely non-threatening.
>It's why the otome shit in recent games sours the setting for some people.
Women play these types of games more than men do, you’re moronic if you feel this way. And what would be the point in selling the game with two different version when they could just let you pick your gender from the start and save themselves the effort, which is the sensible thing to do? There’s a reason they stopped with the “For Girl” versions of Harvest Moon games.
>Women play these types of games more than men do
I agree with everything else, but this isn't really true. It's one of the most popular genres for women but that doesn't mean there's a high number there to begin with, going off most polls the split is probably 2/3 men 1/3 women. Remember that 4 is the first game to have a female option.
Any online community that does them. gamefaqs, reddit, whatever, and even then a lot is guesswork based on how many people voted for a person they married as well as "are you a boy or a girl" since most polls don't get many responses so it's hard to take a good sample. My best guess is somewhere between 2/3 to 1/2 men, and 1/3 to 1/2 women. So relatively even but skewed to men, probably because there's just a lot more men that play games.

lame, I thought they released the RF5 survey results or something
from what I've seen it's mostly women who play these games, but like you said we can't get accurate results from shit like this
2 years ago
Anonymous
Yep, I'd love a proper poll done but that's probably not going to happen. There's also the fact that I have no idea if an online community itself is an accurate representation, but the only other experience I have is working at a fricking gamestop where I sold exactly two copies of Rf4 in a year, one to a girl and another to a guy.

Those polls are themselves skewed by the communities, of course. For example, FFXIV apparently has an even gender split, at least in Japan and Korea, according to the NHK and Yoshida, but you'd never suspect that if you went by western gaming forums.
I don't get it, either. If it was a HM/RF game that released with out it, I get it. It's becomes a series staple so them getting rid of it would alienate. But this isn't either of those, it's a new IP. Weird thing to get hung up on.
I can at least get why they don't let you romance Misa. Elsje though is no excuse. Why do they keep adding these single older girls you can't date? I'm not even saying I like them necessarily but it's like they get off on making them.
They need to stop making the dragons the primary character you interact with. Livia, for example, is the person you probably talk with the most, the person your character trusts and looks up to the most, literally your boss, and the one your character confides his/her insecurities with. She even behaves more maturely than most if not all of the cast.
If she's meant to be unavailable then don't give her such a central role with the main character, and don't listen to westoids who believe that short women don't exist and don't deserve equal treatment.
They should be more of a part of the game. Not just through marriage, but Livia for example just stays in her room aside from story segments. She doesn't get to go to festivals or have fun with the other people in town.
I noticed that too, I was disappointed there wasn't a reason for it. Livia separating herself from the community intentionally could have been part of a decent character arc, and maybe that changes later on in the game, but I'm surprised so far nothing's come of it.
Since she was intended to be a bachelorette likely from the onset, she probably had the Rune Factory arc syndrome of all of her major development being locked behind these romance events which now do not exist.

So what you're saying is that not only can you NOT frick the dragon, the inability to do so is a huge flaw in the story and character overall.

Yes. Her character is literally unfinished and does not have closure on obvious issues she is having as a result.

>Squenix announces this just as Marvelous shits the bed with SoS and RF
Good, I'm fine if there's no marriage, just make the fantasy/rpg aspect better than RF and I'll buy it.
It says a lot about the state of farming sims when this random new IP that was tucked away in a Mini Direct of all things is the talk of the town. It actually looks pretty good. The 3D farming looks awkward, but that's on-par for 3D farming and even then it looks solid.
When a randomly thrown-in title being developed by probable literal whos funded by Square Enix releases a 2 minute trailer that's more promising and eye-catching than anything related to RF5 since it was announced back in 2019, that's when you know Rune Factory is no longer what is once was. The only thing this new game needs is animal husbandry and it'll completely overtake RF's niche without so much as a second thought. This is coming from someone who's played since RF1 back in 2006.
Always thought it was weird RF didn’t have more competition especially from the indie scene after stardew took off.
I would dare to say games like Rune Factory are niche in Japan and way more popular in the west. So no big name company wanted to risk making a game that could only sell a few hundreds of units.
>The only thing this new game needs is animal husbandry and it'll completely overtake RF's niche without so much as a second thought. This is coming from someone who's played since RF1 back in 2006.
The problem is, most of RF problems are technical, the franchise is still very charismatic. Will SE be able to top the high tier RF characters? Almost all of the NPCs are cool and well designed. That's the only thing that didn't really that good about Harvestella, the character design didn't feel as good as RF, even though we know very little about it.
They need to stop making the dragons the primary character you interact with. The game was so low budget that they let us marry the dragon in a visual novel style side story. At least their intention was there.
Has that disgusting FF feel to it, not what I want from a farming game. It's like they just took FF assets and repurposed it into a cheap farming game experiment. Looks mediocre at best.
partner in Japanese is usually someone within same field / area you work together with or for dance/sports. It isn't understood to be romantic. Not looked at the site for it though so idk how they mean it in the game.
just checked it out and nothing about develpoing romance with characters, just about obtaining important bonds which could sound romantic but it's used in a generic sense so often.
People are very, very bitter about RF5. I'm kinda surprised because we had a long forewarning of the game's problems because XSEED was really dragging their feet.
>I'm kinda surprised
I'm not. Rune Factory was one of the very few franchises where a new entry was better than the former one, thing that everyone was expecting with RF5, but in the end didn't happen.
I guess SE smelled blood in the water and pounced on the farming/fighting genre. Good for them, I do hope they can churn out some cute wives to marry and I don't have to worry about stupid censorship and stripped marriage options.
>RF5 had the light/dark dragons >RF6 will have the love dragon >she'll be a huge big titty ara ara MILF >she also won't be marriageable as the magnum opus frick you to the dragon AND mommy wanters
It looks... dull?
It looks exactly like BD, BD2 and even octopath to some degree. Does the SE team that handles these AA handheld titles just have the same motif for every single one of their games?
This one just looks like they made an RF clone out of BD2.
Square Enix is all about forcing all their projects to balance a shoestring budget and demands success unless it's a new Final Fantasy/FF7 in which case they can pour as much money as humanly possible into it and spend years in development hell.
not what im saying. what im saying is the game looks like shit, as a whole product, so we can use the term "budget" here as an insult. clearly the guys working on it are either moronic or forced to churn something out under time constraints, it shows.
soulless 3d anime graphics that look ripped from ff14.
shoddy mobage tier aniimations
stupid story being typical SE shit with dumb ass names.
will have a ton of dlc bullshit to hasten/cut the grind.
Rune Factory / Stardew Valley combo still can't be beat.
Only thing you have to really compare it to is what other rune factory games which still look like budget shit? That's not even including 5, 4 also looks like budget shit even if it's better than 5.
Sakuna would be there if there was a greater field of farming.
Whatever faults SDV has (of which there are quite a few yes) it captures the spirit of the original bokujou monogatari and is a great tribute to it while trying out new things (at the time) and is some of the comfiest gameplay for the first few years. Also the dev adding in new shit after release , especially the island patch, was sweet.
Stardew's only saving graces are that it's a one man job, it has mods and multiplayer, and the controls are pretty smooth. Everything else is kind of bad, in particular the mechanics are really shallow.
Granted, I did play for a good bit of time because of those things, but I'd be hard pressed to call it cream of the crop.
if something is ever described as a [brand name game]-killer. it never is.
CoD was literally codenamed MoH Killer. Look at what happened to MoH.
It survived happily until CoD 4?
Exactly, it fricking died
Yeah after 4 games, most "X killers" don't make it past one iteration
Isn't that because it contained some of the MOHAA people in the original team?
I originally thought it was some kind of sequel to MOHAA. Loved the game.
Yeah. Infinity Ward started from the original MOH:AA team.

You can say it did a HaverSTELLAR job of killing itself.

cute brides
Yeah
Gorgeous art direction tbqh
no marriage tho. still interested cause it looks great
Why do you people keep saying this? It's just not confirmed.
It has a bond system. If there was romance and marriage system, they would need to hate money to not say it out loud in the trailer and on their website.
This is SE we're talking about. They are absolutely dumb enough not to put it in the trailer. Of course, they're also dumb enough not to add it at all.
Actually, has SE made any game with a romance system for multiple love interests?
ehh only Dragon Quest 11 comes into mind and that was a pretty weak add in.
>the MC is a "Traveler" which means he will most likely leave at the end
>the main heroine is from the future and will most likely go back there at the end
Yeah, I don't see romance being on the table at all.
>mom from the future
Don’t worry her son will write a letter to her about his life to her.
>no marriage system
>into the trash it goes
>no marriage tho
then there is no point
>no marriage
If this ends up being true then this is fricking dropped. I dont need another Innocent Life scenario.
I'm already kind of wary since the squeenix seal of approval tends to be attached to shitty incomplete games being sold at premium prices.
>no marriage
Dropped.
>no marriage tho
Cool, datesim lite mechanics are always dumb anyway.
>no marriage tho.
what is the fricking point of it then, frick square enix
Good, now I can be a no-life turbovirgin who never leaves the forest like in Stardew
It's about time someone else took a crack at fantasy farming.
this actually looks appealing. but it's square enix and they have a habit of fricking shit up
Squeenix has generally been doing ok with these low-risk niche titles
>Triangle Strategy
>Taro's weird card games
>Mana remakes/remasters
>Neo TWEWY
>Taro's weird card games
how was that game anyway? I had a full game schedule so I couldn't play it but it looked kinda cool
It's actually standard jrpg. The card gimmick is distraction
>Neo TWEWY
Your garbage game won't ever be relevant.
good
Triangle Strategy was pretty good at least so I'm hopeful.
this is gonna run worse than rf5 on the switch
To be fair, if late, RF5 did some incredibly moronic decisions, regarding optimisation. Like, just have a loading screen transition between your farm, the rest of the town and the adventuring areas my man, what you lose in seamlessness, you gain in having more than three fricking frames a second. Plus it's not like it doesn't take five seconds to load anyway, it just happens in front of your eyes.
I wish they at least cut the adventuring areas into their own spaces, we really didn't need to have a seamless transition between the town and outside town.
square take on rune factory looks good, but square track record the last few years are to go by it's fricked, so time will tell
Sandrock does it better. This looks too much like they pulled assets from ffxiv. Add in some bunny boys and they'll pull in the yuri audience.
> Sandrock does it better
God he looks so shoehorned in. Like there was some collab with a basketball American or a rapper and they put in their likeness into the game.
How is Sandrock right now? Is it riddled with bugs, poor translations, or unfinished content?
it looks unpolished / low budget
but at the same time it looks nice
i would give it a shot
...but not for 59.99€
This looks really good. I was waiting on getting RF5 but I'll probably end up skipping it if this lives up to the hype.
RF5 on PC might be okay.
the framerate isn't the only problem with RF5
Quick rundown? I recently finished 4 and was looking to get 5
Well, imagine RF4 but 5 times slower due to load times, cinematics and 3rd person movement, blander characters and shittier events.
Deleting two whole marriage candidates from existence
Exhausting all unique dialogue after the first year
Glitchy physics
Random crashes
>Glitchy physics
>Random crashes
I never encountered either, unless you mean the whole furniture placing shit
>Exhausting all unique dialogue after the first year
Oh that is tragic. RF4 pulled off daily npc dialog so well.
Three*, and they were scrapped DLC content (the files are literally labeled as DLC in the datamine). Every game in existence has content that never makes it into the final product, moron. They were probably unable to release it because they had to spend all of their time and efforts on fixing the hundreds of bugs that the game launched with.
>Exhausting all unique dialogue after the first year
RF4 was exactly the same. Characters had a new dialogue every day for the first year and then in year 2 they immediately started repeating.
>Glitchy physics
>Random crashes
THESE are why the game is bad. It runs like shit and looks like shit, too.
>can't marry cute elf waifu
why even produce crops and meat if you don't have a waifu to share them with?
into the garbage it goes.
You can always larp as a crazy old farmer who shoots trespassers
I just enjoy growing things, enjoying the seasons, and going on adventures.
I will play Story of Seasons, Rune Factory and Harvestella.
Ganker can't stop me, I will get my bountiful harvest of farming kino.
but will you play the doraemon game?
Doraemon actually the best SoS game.
It's peak comfykino, even without marriage it still mogs every single SoS game
gonna try this one since the first one doesn't look interisting
Does this game have a worldwide trial or is that just for japan?
I'm not interested in any of that, hell I don't want any marriage mechanics at all.
>No Sakuna
Uh, Anon? Is everything alright?
No romance, bro. It's just max friendship bonds.
>No romance, bro. It's just max friendship bonds.
>finally thinking we are getting non-pedophile rune factory
>instead get Final Faming: Friendship is Magic
Goddammit I hate Japan.
>implying the recent Rune Factory games have e-girls that you can romance
Bro? Your mental handicap is showing.
Rune Factory 4 had at least one per gender
Anyone who thinks this will kill Rune Factory, especially if it has no romance or marriage system is delusional. RF5 sold 500k when it released in the states, and it's releasing on steam in like a week. Ironically if you watch the steam trailer it's like night and day comparing the performance with the switch version, so I imagine a lot of people will double dip just for that.
I'm just happy to have more games to play.
Same. Honestly It'd be nice if they did add a dating mechanic to this game, but has square ever had a game with those elements?
Old Final Fantasy games used to have affection systems. But who is even developing this game? Is it some studio internal to Squeenix or are they just publishing?
I don't know why everyone is convinced this game has no romance options in it.
If I can plant my seeds on the ground, but can't plant my seed on a woman, what's the point?
but can it kill doraemon
Oh! NICE! You're doing wonderful work, anon!
It was the soundtrack I was genuinely interested about, and you've ALREADY found a track!
It's not sarcasm; nice work.
i hope. the doraemon aesthetic was really nice but the game itself was very basic hm formula.
This looks fricking amazing. When was it announced? Honestly just today out of the blue?
Today in the Nintendo Direct.
This better be good so that I can finally move on from RF
>farming game
>squeenix
So either no romance, or the only option is the most bog standard sterile bland two dimensional cardboard princess character that literally not one single person on this entire fricking planet could have feelings for.
Yeah, no thanks. If gameplay proves me wrong, I'll buy it on discount.
kino enix.
might as well ask here.
should i emulate rune factory 4 so i can upscale the resolution to make it look better or should i just get the pc version?
.
This game better let you date and marry all the Cakes and MILFs
Good:
>e-girls
>farming and fighting look good
>female MC
Bad:
>English
>Squeenix
>no romance/yuri
>story focused
Yeah not a RF killer or competition at all.
You will never be Japanese.
True and that's a good thing. I'm not worthy of being Japanese.
thats a good thing anon
jap males are stubborn, emotionally dumb and physically weak
jap females are weak willed, whiny and ugly as frick
source: 6 years living in tokyo and counting
>theres a male MC too
Get fricked /u/gay
RF was never a yuri game in the first place.
>no PS4
WTF? I don't want to play this on the Switch, it's so blurry that my eyes are starting to hurt.
okay but do they let me frick milfs
Oh shit, it's chad khajiit.
source for no romance or marriage ?
Nope.
Looks better than RF5, will probably buy.
>t-there will be romance! It just isn't confirmed yet!
The amount of copium in here is worrying. There's literally no reason for them not to advertise something that is a huge staple of the genre, they aren't keeping it a secret or saving it for a later announcement. Please face reality, anons.
No one is saying romance is guaranteed, just dont pretend to know everything about the game based on a five minute trailer.
Cope.
>Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons
Plant crops, marry a girl and settle down
>Stardew Valley/Rune Factory
Plant crops, marry a girl, fight monsters, and explore the weird world
>Harvestella
Plant crops, fight monsters, and cower in fear as hellish light fills the land during the eldritch SEASON OF DEATH
Yep, it's a Square game all right.
im betting its celestials that come down every few years to harvest humans. harvestella. my worst fear? this is all a 5d plan to by nomura to bring back protoFF15 Stella with her own franchise.
>spoiler
Now that's the kind of schizo shit I love. Here's hoping.
Why do Nomura schizos do it to themselves?
Do we know who is working on this? Like who is directing?
>cant marry a waifu
Shit/10 no matter how good everything else looked
>muh marriage
Am I the only one who doesn't mind that?, besides RF where you can take whoever you want to the dungeons, in HM it was just a boring grind for affection points and little to no interactivity
It's weird to have a Day-to-Day life simulation game that doesn't have any kind of romance aspect.
it's realistic
I'm lonely and need the escapist fantasy romance that farming games provide, please understand.
thank god. i wish only ill on marvelous after they botched it so fricking hard for 3 decades.
>in before journalists get to interview the devs only for them to not even ask about marriage
I swear there have been several games I've been interested in these last couple of years where journalists never even asked any real gameplay questions, leaving everyone in the dark until the game was released and everyone had to dig up the answers themselves.
Where does it say no marriage
This games needs these features to make Rune Factory obsolete
>Marriage
>Good candidates
>Monster taming
>Extensive crafting
>Avatar Customization
>no gay marriage
>no marriage
Fixed that for you
>As far as I'm concerned, all marriage is "gay" marriage
Based
>no gay marriage
It looks so good. No romance is great if true, that's the worst part of RF for me. I just want to farm and and kill shit.
Isn't the romance optional in RF4 and 5? It hasn't been a mandatory thing for a couple games now.
Why the frick are you playing harvest moon/rune factory if you dont want a waifu? Just go get actual farming simulator
I want to farm to get better in combat. Farming with no combat is pointless
It's a good balance of everything, if you want a waifu just play a full fledged dating sim
Go play farming simulator 2000-2022
I love farming and don't care about waifus. Why wouldn't someone who loves farming play neat games where you can farm?
If theres no marriage it will be dead on arrival. Sukuna doesn’t have marriage but the farming is specifically about rice so its unique when compared to other farming games, this doesn’t look unique.
I care less about it being unique than it being (potentially) good.
It's the farm sim with highest production values I have seen(ignoring farming simulator), art style looks great, you have multiple beautiful towns, etc. Music will probably be great too, main problem is that it's SE
Why is Ganker acting like his game bombed or something?
It didn't bomb but I wish it did.
Not that anon but I wouldn't wish it to bomb. 5 wasn't great but it doing well means we'll likely get 6 and it isn't impossible for them to turn things around with that. I don't like counting devs out after a single bad entry if they have a good record before that game.
Wish fulfillment
all those disappointed people
I find this really hard to believe as an rf fan.
SoS: PoOT is one of the best selling games in the entire series and it was trash. A game can be bad and still sell well.
>SoS: PoOT
What's so bad about it? Never played it
Because it was shit?
Everyone knows the game sold well. What everyone is lamenting is that game is shit and yet sold decently despite that.
Because it was an utter shit game in almost every regard and people inherently want it to fail for that reason.
Everyone is saying it's shit itoddler
Many game's sales are based on expectations from the previous game or two. Bad games usually have a steep drop off, but it's the game after - even if it's good - that usually suffers.
>square
pass
>no option to play as male
no thanks
The female (male) option is right there.
That is absolutely Ramza and I will be damned if I named them anything else when I play the game.
Ramza had a pretty sweet ass.
>Those hips
Damn you weren't kidding
Based Ramza enjoyer
I wish we got another game like FFT
>tfw only just recently got through chapter 1 because I got the game on a different platform and therefore managed to get monk earlier for 3 characters.
What's the point
You get to pick DFC or tiny breasts.
>tiny
Anime porn has broken your mind if you think those qualify as "tiny."
Smaller than a handful is tiny in my mind.
both are hot
how much porn will they get
>MC is not ultrachad barabait
This is bullshit
>all the upcoming trap+female art in boorus
This is too much. I can't take it.
Choose your gender.
>Skirt.
>Shorts.
they're both wearing shorts, the girl's is just shorter
is the MC a guy or a grill? I hate this androgynous shit that plagues Japanese media even after all this time. Other than that, it looks good. Really liking the art direction.
You can choose between a male or female MC but the male looks exactly like a girl with a flat chest, see
this the male chracter looks like a girl black guys won't like this
Black guys don't even play these kind of games.
>square Enix
No thanks. Not buying anything from any company that supports blockchain much less can't even port PS2 games lol
>rune factory killer
>No romances
NOPE
I was on board until the aliens came down. Really into HM and RF because of how comfy it is and a season of death ain't comfy.
People simply don't like farming sims with no marriage.
After playing many games with marriage and always doing the same shit, no marriage is a great feature for me, I don't want to deal with that shit if it doesn't add anything meaninful pos-marriage
Save the homeland was a time limit game that would end after 1 year
i swear innocent life had no relationships at all. no friendships or any benefit to talking with the town
People didn't like Innocent Life because it was irredeemable dogshit
The PSP version added marriage.
I'd be fine with no marriage as long as there's still good interaction with the other characters.
>woman MC
So where are the husbandos?
You can pick male or female MC.
What's the point if there's no husbandos?
Calm your breasts, there are male NPCs but there isn't any romance aspect advertised.
A weeb coomer game without romance, doesn't sound boring at all
Why does he keep making them in his image then?
god hates gays
That "woman" had a masculine voice in the trailer. That's the only way I knew it was a male.
You can't kill that which is already dead.
If it has no gay marriage I'm sold
Highlight of the direct for me, a nice surprise.
The funniest thing that could happen to this game would be to put in romance, have a Milf and a e-girl Dragon marriage candidates, and proceed to sell a million to blow out the Rune Factory devs.
That wouldn't be funny.
That'd be justice.
I honestly hate you gays crying about milf and e-girl dragon. I do think if this does have romance options, it has a chance to sell a good amount.
>Modern Squenix
>have a Milf and a e-girl Dragon marriage candidates
I fricking wish.
>have a Milf
If they can so much as do this they'd already beaten RF5.
well rf5 was so garbage that this actually has a chance to get really big now
>overworld
>vehicle
>party
In the fricking first trailer.
So much soul. Looks so much better than the latest FFs, it's bizarre.
Is the lack of Final Fantasy brand name a requisite to be actually good?
>rune factory killer
>not enjoying both
You guys don't understand Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games
Rune Factory's been slacking, I hope this is good so I get a good game and Rune Factory sees that it needs to get its shit together.
I mean, I do agree Natsume lately stuff is really weak, but still the main objective of these games is to get comfy, even bad ones are enjoyable.
You say that as if people don't flip the frick out over Natume's bastardized modern Harvest Moon games.
I liked One World. It wasn't the best HM game I ever played, and I wouldn't rank it even as the top ones, but it's not bad. Say what you want about how greedy Natsume is, at least the series was never pozzed under their watch.
What are you talking about? If you're complaining about homosex, Natsume put that in long before XSEED finally badgered Marvelous into including gays.
In which one? The closest to gay marriage Natsume got was in FoMT girl version where you could have a "best friend" move with you. They were reluctant to add gay marriage for years even though there was a sizeable amount of gays asking for it since the 3DS games.
Times change.
Well Natsume didn't get the memo because there is no gay marriage in HM One World either.
The last time those two series were good was during the 3DS era.
>enjoying HM after Two Towns
>enjoying SoS after Trio of Towns
>enjoying RF after RF4
looks nice but don wan play as girl you troony fricks give us a option to play as girlls or boys
There is a franchise that exists that could rival almost 1:1 Rune Factory and its probably the original one. The bad news is that is behind a company that is more interested on making Pachinko machines than video games at this moment.
>franchise
Isn't there only one game? It was pretty fun even though I never finished it.
The big crystal in the middle of town reminds me of FFCC.
Always thought it was weird RF didn’t have more competition especially from the indie scene after stardew took off.
Looks great, if the farming and combat are great too I'm using the money I saved with RF5 and will pre order
>Farman
>Fightan
This is highly relevant to my interests
Trailer had some frame drops but maybe it'll get worked out?
Trailer performance looked okay to my eyes. But maybe I just have low standards now.
>Overcome battles by switching seamlessly between jobs during combat
Nice
Isn't that just a stance and not a job then?
If it changes your abilities it isn't, I hope they release a combat trailer
I'm guessing no marriage since the time traveling heroine apparently comes to live in your house.
>Can't make her watch as you impregnate one of the NPCs
frick
She'll be your daughter and every morning ask why you aren't fricking anyone yet.
>no romance
There is no way they would do something that stupid, right?
They could be. There is some kind of bond system, but it could just end being simple teasing in the latter ranks and nothing more.
If it worse than 5 I will be amazed and NEVER TRUST SQUAREENIX AGAIN.
You should never trust gay enix ever and always pirate first
I do that anyway, I meant in having faith in them to produce a good game. I refuse to buy square enix games on pc given their track record.
There's no way it will be worse than 5 even if they tried
I used to think that too. Until they did the chrono cross remaster. How did they screw it up so badly? The answer is SQUARE ENIX DON'T CARE FOR GAMES.
Oh god. That happened, didn't it?
That Doraemon game is the true killer.
I fricking wish Rune Factory 5 was such shit.
>no marriage
>but there's one canon Heroine for (you)
Is it okay?
If she's a e-girl, sure.
Otherwise no.
Not a e-girl but she's still a pretty hot science b***h. I like that.
Future fashion is interesting.
No.
>some bawd randomly decides to squat in your house
Frick that. Find an apartment, b***h.
Eh, looking at the premise it seems it will mostly likely end with them going on their separate ways.
I don't think she'll leave for good, but maybe she'll get her own house in the post game. Farming games don't usually have actual plot in them.
I'd be fine without any romance at all really
If it were a pure farming game then it kind of needs that side element, but given it has combat, there should be enough variety without it. Just look at Sakuna.
Sakuna was a really nice action game though. I don't trust Square-Enix to reach that level.
dragon fricker on my Harvestella thread? please get the frick out
It's all angry unsatisfied dragon frickers here.
As I have been only scorned, I will never disappear.
Frick the dragonfrickers, I wanted the fox.
Who else do you think is going to take interest in this game? men denied of dragon/e-girl/milf pussy
So, Go Shiina is the composer.
You know, the Ace Combat guy, as well as the dude that composed the only two good soundtracks for Tales.
Interesting.
Really? Nice
Well this game is now on my watchlist
Don't frick it up Square
rune factory killed itself
Frick, I JUST bought Rune Factory 4
just play it? the game will release on november
Good. At least you didn't bought 5.
RF4 is my favourite game in the genre. I hope Harvestella is good but RF4 is still worth playing regardless.
bro what the frick are you talking about? RF3 and RF4 are the best farming games.
I hope they aren't moronic and didn't forget to put a marriage system in a farming sim.
Can you romance girls in this? If not then I dont care. It looks pretty fricking generic and low effort for a company like SE.
a 100% Square Enix game, this shit will be 6 hours long, will run at 45fps and it will have dozens of bugs
look cool but given the piece of shit people who are making it, can't be exciting about anything
>45fps
That's a bad thing?
Seemed fine from the trailer. Hopefully that's a Switch capture.
>this shit will be 6 hours long, will run at 45fps and it will have dozens of bugs
Still better than RF5's 5 hours long, 15 fps and dozens of bugs even after being patched.
how are you completing rf5 in 5 hours? some of the story events are timegated, some for several ingame days.
Honestly my biggest complaint with RF5 is that the ingame clock moves like twice as slow as any other RF title
>that event where you have to wait until 10pm for the butterfly gay to open a dungeon
>finish all my chores at 3pm
correct, shiny things are goat
>will run at 45fps
You're talking to a thread of people who have looked forward to and played RF5. 45fps is like 4 times what we're used to.
meant for
Looks like the farming is an afterthought.
>this and Doraemon SoS sequel coming out soon
>both probably won't/don't have marriage system
Rune Factory 4's crafting system was genius and I'd love to see more games copy it.
should i try 4 or 5?
i loved Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town as a kid
tried Stardew Valley and while i thought it was alright, it didn't keep my interest for long
4.
It's a big fixture in the genre.
3DS or Steam?
Rune Factory 4 Special so Steam or Switch.
Steam it is then, thx. don't have a switchu
4 is an actual good game. Even if the PC version of 5 somehow doesn't have horrible performance, the game still has a lot of flaws. Combat is massively downgraded compared to 4 and the game in general is weird.
Wow
Wasn't there a Rune factory game for consoles that looked much better than this?
What fricking happened?
we had frontier
an actual artstyle helps
>What fricking happened?
Bankruptcy
The studio who made the game is utterly incompetent. They made the game in Unity with almost all native instructions and even stock models.
4 but RF3 is also really good if with less features, most people love it
This, but throw all the waifus in the rubbish bin where they belong.
Why do people get obsessed with a romance/marriage system in these types of games? Go play the Sims. I spend all day on my crops or dungeon crawling, I don’t have time for b***hes homie, there’s work to do
The big draw for these games since its inception is basically "Living a slow life on the frontier and enjoying nature with your cute trad wife." It's why the otome shit in recent games sours the setting for some people.
I do think it should have both options THOUGH.
>most polls
what polls?
Any online community that does them. gamefaqs, reddit, whatever, and even then a lot is guesswork based on how many people voted for a person they married as well as "are you a boy or a girl" since most polls don't get many responses so it's hard to take a good sample. My best guess is somewhere between 2/3 to 1/2 men, and 1/3 to 1/2 women. So relatively even but skewed to men, probably because there's just a lot more men that play games.
lame, I thought they released the RF5 survey results or something
from what I've seen it's mostly women who play these games, but like you said we can't get accurate results from shit like this
Yep, I'd love a proper poll done but that's probably not going to happen.
Same self-inserting Black folk that ask for romance in literally any RPG for no good reason.
I don't get it, either. If it was a HM/RF game that released with out it, I get it. It's becomes a series staple so them getting rid of it would alienate. But this isn't either of those, it's a new IP. Weird thing to get hung up on.
No e-girl wife
No buy.
I'm guessing you don't buy many games.
There are plenty if you look in the right places
It seems pretty interesting. Quietus looks really cool. Combat seems kind of slow but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
>FF harvest moon
Looks good.
These are the three girls I am most interested in romancing. Can you guess what they have in common?
Margaret I get since she and Doug are just guests, but still
I can at least get why they don't let you romance Misa.
Like if Amber didn't have the Gratitude event, she'd be missing half her character.
She's also the first e-girlbaba afaik, pretty fricked up if you ask me
Please understand we had to make the game run at 15 FPS instead of 10 and frick up the dialogue so you can suck dick.
The lack of competition in the japanese market have made them complacent
The game was so low budget that they let us marry the dragon in a visual novel style side story. At least their intention was there.
>Rune Factory killer
RF don't need a killer it is already killing itself.
Has that disgusting FF feel to it, not what I want from a farming game. It's like they just took FF assets and repurposed it into a cheap farming game experiment. Looks mediocre at best.
Art direction looks kino
It's quite nice. Who is the character designer?
Someone who can’t draw men to save their life. Art direction is different from character design, by the way.
>Art direction looks kino
DUDE EVERYTHING RANDOMLY GLOWS AND THERE'S CRYSTALS
>Game has just been announced and already is filtering midwits
>being bored of generic animu artstyle is being filtered
It looks exactly like xiv, you even play as a troony if you select the male body.
Thanks for confirming what I said
go back to playing dressup
Yes
that just makes it easier to larp as an FF game
>e-girl WIFE AND MILF WIFE
HOWEVER
>THEY ARE NFTs
what do?
I'm used to disappointment
Right-click and save as
PC modders would crack it within hours. But thanks for reminding me of the nightmare that's been unleashed and the constant stupidity of Square Enix.
Picture is called partner in the website
>partner
But what is the japanese meaning of "partner"? Partner as a friend, partner in love, partner in the job? What is it?
It's a "friendship" meter, but we all know those can do double duty.
partner in Japanese is usually someone within same field / area you work together with or for dance/sports. It isn't understood to be romantic. Not looked at the site for it though so idk how they mean it in the game.
親密度
I think it's just a vague measure of how much a character likes you.
just checked it out and nothing about develpoing romance with characters, just about obtaining important bonds which could sound romantic but it's used in a generic sense so often.
Comfy
Why does every new thing have to be a fricking X-Killer with you guys? Can't you just play SOS, RF, SV and this game?
People are very, very bitter about RF5. I'm kinda surprised because we had a long forewarning of the game's problems because XSEED was really dragging their feet.
>I'm kinda surprised
I'm not. Rune Factory was one of the very few franchises where a new entry was better than the former one, thing that everyone was expecting with RF5, but in the end didn't happen.
>RF Killer
RF committed suicide it doesn't need the help
Rune Factory killed itself
I guess SE smelled blood in the water and pounced on the farming/fighting genre. Good for them, I do hope they can churn out some cute wives to marry and I don't have to worry about stupid censorship and stripped marriage options.
I hope there's no romance at all so you can all shut the frick up
I hope there's romance just so you can shut the frick up
I'm not the one crying about muh e-girl wife
No
>no
Damn, they really don't know what people actually want
They actually know, but for some reason they still refuse to make the dragons romanceable.
>RF5 had the light/dark dragons
>RF6 will have the love dragon
>she'll be a huge big titty ara ara MILF
>she also won't be marriageable as the magnum opus frick you to the dragon AND mommy wanters
Can you marry the dragon in RF4 yet?
It looks... dull?
It looks exactly like BD, BD2 and even octopath to some degree. Does the SE team that handles these AA handheld titles just have the same motif for every single one of their games?
This one just looks like they made an RF clone out of BD2.
Isn't that just how SE games look like?
Square Enix is all about forcing all their projects to balance a shoestring budget and demands success unless it's a new Final Fantasy/FF7 in which case they can pour as much money as humanly possible into it and spend years in development hell.
>Pic
Didn't even bother to read your shitpost
>looks like shoestring budget dogshit
i miss when devs were passionate about creating games
The passionate folks are over on the HD-2D department
There's nothing passionate about that blurry shit.
>shoestring budget
that's an improvement over 5
High budget games are never a work of passion
not what im saying. what im saying is the game looks like shit, as a whole product, so we can use the term "budget" here as an insult. clearly the guys working on it are either moronic or forced to churn something out under time constraints, it shows.
>under time constraints
The only devs who aren't under time constraints are indies and the BOTW2 team
soulless 3d anime graphics that look ripped from ff14.
shoddy mobage tier aniimations
stupid story being typical SE shit with dumb ass names.
will have a ton of dlc bullshit to hasten/cut the grind.
Rune Factory / Stardew Valley combo still can't be beat.
stardew combat and romance arent interesting and rune factory 5 was garbage.
Modded SDV is superior and RF5 was trash yes. Both these points don't invalidate what I said.
Only thing you have to really compare it to is what other rune factory games which still look like budget shit? That's not even including 5, 4 also looks like budget shit even if it's better than 5.
I see "i am Setsuna" level of success with that one
Modded stardew is the only way to go at this point.
Stardew's kind of shit tbh
Replace it with Sakuna
Sakuna would be there if there was a greater field of farming.
Whatever faults SDV has (of which there are quite a few yes) it captures the spirit of the original bokujou monogatari and is a great tribute to it while trying out new things (at the time) and is some of the comfiest gameplay for the first few years. Also the dev adding in new shit after release , especially the island patch, was sweet.
Stardew's only saving graces are that it's a one man job, it has mods and multiplayer, and the controls are pretty smooth. Everything else is kind of bad, in particular the mechanics are really shallow.
Granted, I did play for a good bit of time because of those things, but I'd be hard pressed to call it cream of the crop.
why does it look like an indie game outside of the combat
Chances are low but I hope we can play dressup
Everyday my hopes of a switch style savvy gets even more crushed
i'm so tired of generic animu artstyle #1 and slapping on as much visual novel type conversation as possible
Thank Christ. Rune factory desperately needed competition.
But if there's no milfs...
