yes, we sometimes put handicaps on ourselves to help with losses in games. CoD matches are quick and i'm sure that for some seeing "Defeat" a lot can hurt their ego. The handicap puts us a distance with failure as we can say "oh well i would have won if i had done X, but i'm putting myself at a disadvantage from the beginning so the lose does not mean anything"

I think that's perfectly fine. Also, I though the idea of SBMM was that you having close to 1.0 K/D ratio is the goal, so that means the system is working as intended.
If he keeps playing like that, he will keep getting matched with players close to his skill level.
If there are kids jump-sliding and sweating their ass off, and they still get killed by redditors like this who play sub optimally, that's something on the sweating kids.

Anarchy Reigns was fricking amazing but it had two glitches that basically destroyed the player base since Sega wouldn't pay for a patch.
The first was the Killer Weapon glitch, where certain characters could do air killer weapon attacks without using up the meter it's supposed to spend or even when they had no meter at all. This gave those characters some very stupid and easy damage.
The second was infini-dodge. Basically because of the way the input buffer worked you could let go of the block button while dodging and the normal limit of three dodges before needing to stop would disappear. This led to people just dodging around 24/7 until they saw an opportunity to steal a kill, rinse and repeat.
I refused to do either and tried in vain to stop their spread.

If I don't find the meta fun, then I don't do it. If I do find it fun, then I do. I'm not a competivegay, so I'm not railroaded into needing to follow meta decisions in most cases.
If I'm playing a game on the highest difficulty, with an ironman(permadeath, no respawn) option, I'll probably end up using more meta options. Just because I won't want to waste my time/effort investment.
Back when I would play that modern warfare 2 game splitscreen at my friends' houses, I would turn the controller sensitivity to max, pick an LMG, and just spin around at rapid speed shooting bullets in 360 degrees whenever anybody got close.

I used to drive around in Rocket League just going for demolitions and completely ignoring the ball. That became my meta, the tasty tears of the people screeching in chat that I was not playing the game right.

This "meta" hasn't fricking changed since the days of Quake and Tribes. Running and jumping around a lot doesn't make you a zoomer nor is it indicative that you watch youtube videos for tips and tricks. Running and jumping constantly increases your traversal rate and makes you a harder target to predict and hit. Standing still or moving slowly is how you get killed.

no, because i avoid games that have a "meta" like the fricking plague. simply because i would get yelled at by people who take issue with my playstyle which would ruin the game for me. i learned that the hard way when i picked up MW19, after not playing Call of Duty since MW2, and finding out that everybody was sliding, sprinting, spinning like their fricking buttholes were on fire. now if there was a game like Call of Duty(exactly the same) without any of those movement skills i'd be down for that.

Yes. I spend a lot of time on the games I like so doing the same thing over and over again gets boring. Even more so in games that have more enjoyable options than the meta some autist discovered.
