You absolutely can use a shiv deck. Use your brain, get powerful powers and block like after image. Ever since the shiv buffs I honestly think its the stronger build.
Double After Image, Wraith Form + After Image, shitload of dex, Ornamental Fan, Tungsten Road + Wraith Form, other armor scaling like Tough Bandages with big discard synergy, scale your shivs enough that you kill the heart before it kills you, caltrops + heavy defense, big poison burst.
Easiest way to understand synergies and the extent of your resources is to watch high level players. Baalorlord puts up the whole heckin wholesome act which is very off-putting at first, but he always justifies his reasoning at a good pace, as opposed to the other clowns who take 5 minutes to mutter a simple thought like the illiterate zoomers they are.

learn how to fight elites, prep for the current boss, purge basic starting cards, don't hoard potions, learn what scales well vs what doesnt, and just keep playing.
I don't understand the appeal of the red mask. I mean I'll take it as a free reward with a chance of 222 gold later, but I'd rather fight another elite than those guys.
1 turn of weak, is there even anything that hits for 40 on turn 1? That would make it on par with the boat anchor, a common relic. I guess the AOE artifact strip is nice, but again, nothing extraordinary. I can't see myself paying more than 50 gold for it, and that's when I know I don't need anything from the upcoming store.
it's not just a red mask, it's gold + potion chance + card reward
giving up a fight is giving up a potential win condition, your deck should be being built to beat a fight like that anyway

So without spoiling, how do I get whatever is the True Ending? Do I need to clear multiple ascensions with all characters?
beat the game once with the first 3 characters (ironclad, silent, defect) then on a run can unlock the 3 keys pieces that allow you to get true ending.
