What? The guy in the OP pic?
People hated it because it was different, same reason for every other Gamecube game. Everyone just wanted Mario 64 2, Star Fox 64 2, Mario Kart 64 2, and Ocarina of Time 2, but instead got Luigi's Mansion and Sunshine, Star Fox adventures, Double Dash and Wind Waker and are eternally salty about it.
Nah, I was actually around at the time, and everyone hated it, and seethed about it for well over a decade before the kids who grew up with it suddenly became adults and weighed their opinion on it and said "It's good actually".
The only ones that didn't hate the shit out of it were furgays who didn't play the game anyways, and were just happy with Dr. Comet making Krystal porn.
The term "furry" wasn't even that widespread back in 2002. I certainly don't remember it, and I was already active online as I was 16.
People liked stuff like Bugs Bunny, Star Fox or Samurai Pizza cats and nobody really thought it had to be because of a sexual interest. Yes Star Fox has a couple cute female characters, looney toons had lola bunny, but it was just cartoon sexy characters, people weren't poisoned with the internet that much yet.
Most people don’t necessarily care to stairfax temperatures. I don’t either, go frick yourself

And to append it they later complained when Nintendo started pumping out sameface NSMB games for about a decade.

history revisionism, it was well received at the time. Not a 10/10 but around 8/10.

It came out on a shit console I never owned, why would I like it.
I would frick the blue fox chick though.
only the snes and N64 games were good, and the n64 game obsoleted the snes game anyway
I've never played it. I don't care to like games I have not played
I'm not a furry.

It looks fine to me, I just never played it, or any Star Fox really
