Helldivers 2 Playerbase

Did they fumble the bag?

>they lost around 70 to 85% of the playerbase since launch.
>The CEO had to step down in order to fix the horrible balancing and gameplay decisions by the devs.
>first time player count rises again after huge patch, reverting some former decisions
>Game is still incredibly buggy with a lot of crashes.
>huge PR problems with Sony and furries
>they announced to go into summer brake.
>stale gameplay loop with no new maps / game modes

Is it over for them?

The CEO quit the company to fix balancing?

You should have said "stepped down from the CEO position", as you put it makes it sound like they outright quit.

        >he demoted himself
Yea sure anon. He voluntarily did that. A week after the biggest fiasco they had with Sony where he and his employees were publicly blaming Sony. He voluntarily did this not the multi billion dollar publisher forcing him too

I didn't know the timeline - quite plausible that Sony made some calls and pressured him.

Nonetheless once he took over his current position the game changed course and regained some players

had the same idea.. they probably made more money from the sales, than they expected to make withing the first 5 years of the geme..
so they are good, could also be the reason why they act so incompetent now..
still - it's designed as a "live service" game, they need an active comunity

Yes, and one of my friends is a bagholder for the game that wants to keep playing it because it's "fun" (I assume in the same way getting your wallet siphoned by an MMO is "fun")

that is what baffles me the most. The community was very clear about their wishes and the devs completely took a dump on them.

Devs should never listen to their community because the community is usually moronic.

I wish the games I played had that many people playing. That Starship Troopers game has literally 3 digits people playing it, last I checked it went down to 300 people, in all the world, thats what dead actually looks like.

Did they really not realize that they were an FOTM game? The playerbase was always going to drop once the normies got bored and moved onto the next Current Thing™

      Anonymous

This. Game devs just need to accept their game is the flavor of the month. Once it loses it's taste players will spit it out like old gum. The fact so much of Ganker doesn't understand this is the confusing part.

        Anonymous

This excuse doesn't work when your objective is to make a GaaS game moron. In that sense they failed in their objective

  9. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

When the frick is Ganker going to connect the dots and realize this is usually what happens to a game and it's playerbase?
You're only noticing now because it's trendy to do so.
Games that don't do this are an exception. And even then player engagement fluctuates wildly.

      Anonymous

      generally speaking you're 100% correct.

helldivers 2 was a bit "different" because it seems they actively worked against their community.
It's very visible when you look at the recent spike in player numbers, once the reverted former changes and announced a new course of action (that the community asked for from the very beginning) the payer number actually doubled.

I think the devs fumbled the bag, the decline of players could have been much less drastic.

        Anonymous

Also you can read the note and they never expected people to use some stuff how we used it and just said frick it and let people use what ever, I been seeing a ton more orbitals now

        Anonymous

Nah the only thing the devs did was nerf some weapons, people would get bored of the core formula over time anyways.
        >maps aren't vastly different in generation, 2 planets of the same biome are basically identical in how the missions play out
        >we've been fighting the same like 20-30 planets for 4 months now
        >no radically different biomes like a colony/city map or mountainous steep areas
At some point people get their fill and move on. Look at Palworld, atleast Helldivers 2 which is also just a 4 player PVE co-op game, still has more than that plus gets peaks up.

          Anonymous

again, totally true . just as I wrote in the OP
">stale gameplay loop with no new maps / game modes"

and the devs didn't just nerf things (although they did that quite a lot).
Every new patch brought a frickton of new bugs to the game. Often time game crashing bugs. While they slowley fixed some of the already existing ones

Ganker is full of very poor people , stupid people, and children that don’t know any better. Legitimately NO game has just kept growing and growing with zero fall off it’s legitimately impossible because it’s human nature to try new things.

All I know is that this started with Palworld, haters were desperate for something to use against it and they focused on the player numbers. Now any big game that appears on steam will get shitposting based on player numbers.

Make sure to spam the devs about how they should unlock the drop pod controls again. Being unable to land wherever I want in a fricking game about drop pods is ridiculous. Let me land on top of some giant tower and fall off and die if I want to.

I uninstalled back in march after i noticed how every mission in the game is essentially the same thing. all the map layouts are the same, objectives are barely any different for any meaningful gameplay. i got tired of countless hills and wasteland maps. where the heck are the urban centers? you expect me to believe that humans live on this planet but all they all exist in scattered outposts and research facilities?

the devs did a really good job at hiding how budget this entire game really was and seeing that they have no immediate roadmap to content people would actually want just made me lose all hope. i went back to the tide games and gtfo, 0 regrets.

It's amazing how dumb your average player is burning all your lives on a side objective when the main objective isn't even done. If you do manage to survive and exfil they do the ebin action hero explosion at the end you can't even see properly and risk killing your team because they saw other people on reddit do it.

I feel like this is all dads doing it. They are ruining many games
