yeah the black bits are their eyes
i dont think we ever see unmasked replicants in FEAR but in the second game they look quite deformed. almost like they have harlequin ichthyosis
we never see the heavy variants unmasked but its safe to assume that since they're taller and bigger than the others, there's extensive surgical enhancements. their inhuman screams/grunting makes me think this is the case too. but i'm only speculating
in Reborn you play a replica soldier that goes rogue, Fettel convinces you to free him (because he's just in prison? again? somehow? except it wasn't really him because he wasn't physically real until he took over the soldier?) and then takes over the replica soldier to become himself again
Well, he also turns on you for no reason, so I'm pretty sure the writers didn't really care

I didn't know FEAR 2 had DLC until now. Still, I'm pretty sure the expansions were just a desperate attempt to get more out of the game/engine/IP. They both have problems and were then dropped entirely from the canon
>I didn't know FEAR 2 had DLC until now.
It exists solely to explain Fettel's return in 3, it's better than the base game of 2 but they're both still fricking awful.
It took me exactly 46 minutes to finish the DLC lol.
Extraction Point was great but Perseus Mandate was dogshit, it was a sign of what 2 was going to be (subtle horror replaced with cheap gags, combat combat combat with no room to breathe or any kind of nuance).
>Extraction Point was great but Perseus Mandate was dogshit
I can never remember which is which for whatever reason. They both have problems, as far as I'm concerned. The one where Fettel resurrects is probably the best, but isn't that the same one that has the black sidekick who won't shut up and then gets killed like he's in a fricking Japanese slasher? That one leaned too much into the action and lost most of the atmosphere. I think the other one managed better in that regard, but fricked up a lot of other things. Honestly, I don't care for either expansion
How in the frick did he come back? He literally just goes "huh that's weird ah well back to work" like nothing happened.
>in a world where a woman has been dead for years >can wander outside her cryo prison sphere in the mental manifestation of a corpse, pornstar or e-girl >all that even after having a nuke evaporate her remains >can create ghosts and all kinds of horrors >have a son that has godlike reflexes and tanks several metric tons of ordnance
But having the other Son survive a head-shot is too much...
>But having the other Son survive a head-shot is too much...
That wasn't my point. In the original he very clearly lets himself get killed by you, because he's done helping Alma and leaves the rest in your hands. I don't know if the logic is that his psychic/supernatural ability transfers to her or whatever after his death, but the fact remains that he *lets* himself be killed. In the expansion he then complains about you killing him. It would be like giving away your ice cream to your friend, and then getting mad that he ate it
Realistic as far as sibling relationship goes. >"You are my brother. All that is mine, is yours." >"WHAT THE FRICK YOU ATE MY PIZZA! I'LL FRICKING BEAT YOU UP!"
Yeah, when it comes to children. Not 30-year-old+ professional soldiers

Yeah Fear 3 was kind of a shitshow but I kind of enjoyed that the whole point of the game was just a giant race between you and your friend to see if Alma would give birth or you just abort her baby. Not enough co-op games out there that try to incentivize both players to compete against each other.

Pointman being Fettel's brother was a pretty stupid twist tbh
its very awesome and I cant help but basedface at the goofy LAN podcast setup they have going and they each tell their ambitions and little things they enjoy about the game. you can tell they had passion
also i believe sierra(activision blizzard?) collabed with rooster teeth to make a series on the game called p.a.n.i.c.s
Why do they even talk? Shouldn't they be silent, since they're controlled telepathically? If they speak it all it should be to relay something from Fettel to taunt you.
Yup; it's even heavily implied they do things to your body later on if you die. F.E.A.R 2 for all it's faults does have some spooky things to think on.
They rape your corpse because Alma wants to frick you, and by extension so do the Replicas. Their minds are being overridden by Alma's sheer horniness.
I loved watching them duke it out as a kid. I wanna say there was an instant action mission on the xbox version of the game that had them fighting too.
>fighting those zombies at the Costco
thinking zombies in a fear game is cool is a terrible opinion
the fricking zombie shit showed a fundamental misunderstanding of why fear worked in the first place
3 was better than 2 but the zombies were an utterly moronic addition
Well we had zombies in the 1st game too tho those were apparitions or phantoms or whatever. I'm more talking about the fact you fight in a Costco. Not the actual enemies in the level
I really like the almost biological slo mo activation sound. I also like the voice line when you enter slo mo and the black ops guys just give an exasperated "what the frick."
There's quite a lot of positive things to be said about FEAR 2 but unfortunately they're mired in such a forgettable and by the numbers experience which is attributed to consoles
The rifle felt a lot better. Felt punchier, at medium range. FEAR's rifle had that weird thing where tapping would fire two shots but the sound effect was of three and would cause the recoil to bloom a heap. It made firing it at mid range require you to just hose down replica with a third of the mag on extreme which took a long time and fricked the pacing of the fight.
Extraction Point was so kino holy shit >more action less exposition >horror amped up to 11 >methodically kills off your companions so you feel isolated >cool laser rifle and a chaingun >can bash doors open >objective: survive
I just finished replaying EP on extreme again and jesus frick they do not hold back at all. I died at least once in most of the fights. I swear the replicas hit harder in EP.
Also, for some reason EP is buggy as frick and froze twice during the bits with Holiday and would go "Disconnected from server" in every level transition from Interval 3 up to the end of Interval 4 (the last one straight up crashes the game for some reason) you can avoid it by setting the graphics to the lowest before the transition, but it's still super annoying, especially since Base-FEAR ran without any issues for me. Is there a permanent fix for that?
i read that the difficulty was turned up a notch for EP so the hardest setting in FEAR was the second hardest in EP
i never experienced any bugs whatsoever even back when i originally played it as well as my yearly install/playthrough
It's a mechanically solid FPS but the level design and AI are nowhere near as good as FEAR, the mission based structure and constant returns to home base also upset the pacing in a big way and get pretty tedious.
Also the knee slide trivializes most combat encounters.
Severed Steel is my preferred slomo commando FPS and would be my personal recommendation but Trepang2 is still worth playing.
The core combat's amazing but the campaign is short, the story is terrible, and the horror is individually well done but it can't decide what it wants to do at all. Buy it for the horde mode.
