I liked ck2, and still think it feels more medieval than ck3 does. Like I can't believe that you can't run a cult yet in ck3. That shit was so fun.

EaW is insanely good and the definitive version of HoI4. Stupid autistic furries making insanely quality content for once. A large reason I play it is it actually runs well. HoI4 vannilia lags to a frickin crawl around 41 and it drives me nuts.

I like it. It's fun and satisfying.
It has problem but it's a fine simulator with fantasy options.

Brainlet take. Just build train tracks, have a couple of spies and design some good ships and tanks.
The espionage system is lacking in actually being fun. You don't get to interact with the spies you capture at ALL, and there's virtually no events about anything your spies do behind enemy lines.
I do agree that the intelligence agency system is deeply flawed and superficial, but not because of the reasons you gave.
What are your reasons
Operations are almost worthless except Prepare Government.
You can only have three spies unless you're Spy Master, which isn't enough to do the advanced operations and still keep network strength. Meaning you have to build it up again every time.
I hate the nuparadox gameplay of click button receive meme. the focuses in hoi4 and missions in eu4 are shit.

I hate hoi4. the map is too small and abstract for me. countries like iraq are divided into maybe 6 provinces at most. "mosul" is a massive province that pretty much covers the entirety of northern iraq.
10 years ago this would have made sense because you can't expect players to have fun microing 300 units over a massive front with hundreds of tiny provinces. but this isn't a problem anymore. hoi 4 lets you hand over control of your units to the AI and intervene when its messing up. so why not go crazy and make the map 100x more detailed? europe should have a huge map with lots of detail. the big cities like moscow and berlin should be divided into 4 or 5 provinces. you should also be able to control units at batallion level not just brigades
there is a mod that does this called Magna Europa but the performance is shit on my pc
