Kino. Why Square Enix does nothing with this series? It baffles me that they have not ported the Quintent trilogy to any platform, it is still stuck in the SNES era. Are they oblivious that this is a cult classic that many people would like to buy or get to know?
I hope you do, there is nothing like it, and it has aged well. The feeling of contributing to the evolution of Earth and humanity over time is great. The game is constantly changing and evolving through your actions. Everything you've done and everyone you've met adds emotional tension to the overarching story.
Thats really dope
Did they ever found if the game director was still alive? He was missing for a long time.

No. Maybe he died and the family and friends are keeping a low profile.

No. Maybe he died and the family and friends are keeping a low profile.
Anon claimed he was now basically working on pachinkos for the yakuza a few years ago, and he pretty much accepted his fate
He's probably not getting out of that situation anytime soon, but who knows if it's true
Illusion of Gaia is superior in every way.
Terranigma just repeats the same themes and plot points that were already covered in Soul Blazer and Gaia. And does it with awful music, bad combat, and really dull art direction.
It's better than terranigma that's for sure.
>Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time/Gaia and Terranigma will never get re-released
This is why video games are dying.
>we need more remakes
No. We need more original/new games.
If these games got re-released, imagine how awful the localizations would be. They would re-write them completely and ad "jokes" everywhere.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xUIapfkJDE
It's terrible.
I still don't know how that company made Robotrek of all things, which was heavily flawed. Their track record was pretty spotless otherwise.
>And does it with awful music, bad combat, and really dull art direction.
You can like one more than the other, but saying this just makes it look like you have bad taste
Its simple it just has a bunch of buddhist crap in it for little reason.
MC fused with his real counterpart the hero (who is dead and just a soul now) to defeat dark gaia, then the fusion ends, real hero goes back to the real world and fake hero (you) go die because he is just a dark gaia creation.
Yeah but you revive the world, create everything from scratch step by step basically following the Genesis story, uplift humanity, and then fight Satan at the end. If he's not literally God he is at least a Christ like figure.
Well its not your fault at all because guess what you cant actually use spells against most bosses in the game lmao
Also magirocks are not really consumables they go back to your stock once you have used a spell, the game also never tells you this.
Oh well thats just kinda depressing to find out at this point since my major gripe with the game was the grind but thanks for telling me. Ok Im gonna play it again and actually use magic and see if its a better experience.
Honestly, the strangest thing in the series? Humans are NEVER fought, or at least never as humans or never directly in combat. It's usually undead or those transformed into monsters of some sort.
That's the thing.
Beruga, the closest thing in Terranigma to a proper main antagonist dies before the final boss.
You don't do anything to him directly, he falls into a propeller blade.
Soul Nomad had the royalty acting like dicks, and yes men soldiers, but you never attack them. EVER. The professor BLOWS HIMSELF UP.
Gaia had the entire slave trade, but it's FRICKING METAL CLAW from the first game who is the real power player. Nell's parents are set up to be the heads of it all, but they are long dead and decayed by the time you find them, impersonated by the ghosts. And the assassin sent after you is more interested in just getting Kara returned home, but gets set on fire for all his trouble.
It even is a thing in Actraiser, you never fight a human, Bloodpool's wizard is a werewolf, and probably part of Taranza.
Fricking Robotrek has more "human" encounters and even then it's sentai mooks than anything, and again you use robots to fight.
Did Quintet have an anti-violence thing going on during the SNES era? Cause I don't know much personally about anything after.
It was about showing a past life of all those characters, not sure about the bit with Elle getting god like powers though. The theme of resurrection is very present.
I think Japanese writing is still like that for the most part, which can get kind of boring sometimes
But the west insistence of making everything into a parody, a joke, or a political statement it worse
I remember pretty much getting softlocked in the first dungeon lol
Makes me wonder though, now are their action RPGs on the PS1, Granstream Saga and Brightis?
Granstream fits in the soul blazer series, worth playing if you liked the others
It's probably the weakest entry with its weird battle system, and it feels much smaller in scope
The dogshit VA in the last dungeon is hilarious
In interviews the devs said they wanted to portray that advancing civilization is not just a good thing and has drawbacks, but the effect it had in the game is that bothering to 100% all cities feels very unrewarding, so you might as well leave things as they are
>the effect it had in the game is that bothering to 100% all cities feels very unrewarding, so you might as well leave things as they are
I feel this way about 100%ing every game
>mistranslation accidentally makes main character look like a hypocritical butthole
I was so confused by this line when I first read it. It comes out of nowhere.
Am I the only one that thought this game was overrated as frick? I mean it was good but not 10/10 best on the system. Translation was bad, music was aight, gameplay was boring at times. Both chrono trigger and earthbound mog the shit out of this
It's the favorite of some, but I don't see people exaggerating its qualities, it's appreciated for what it is, not because it's better or worse than other games in the system. Either way, this game is too unknown to the average player to worry about overrating.
I stumbled on it randomly because I thought the title was funny and played it completely blind, and was really impressed by the scope of it
If you go in thinking it's going to be the best rpg of all time I guess you might be disappointed
shame you couldnt invite meilin over and rail her on that bed
Kino. Why Square Enix does nothing with this series? It baffles me that they have not ported the Quintent trilogy to any platform, it is still stuck in the SNES era. Are they oblivious that this is a cult classic that many people would like to buy or get to know?
Because they would ruin it like they ruined the act raiser remake
Just looked it up. SE cloning pseudo indies is just a joke.
Elle is a good girl even though she tries to kill you at first
she fricked the elder
Beautiful picture. I will now play your game.
I hope you do, there is nothing like it, and it has aged well. The feeling of contributing to the evolution of Earth and humanity over time is great. The game is constantly changing and evolving through your actions. Everything you've done and everyone you've met adds emotional tension to the overarching story.
Is that by the original artist?
Yeah, art done by Kamui Fujiwara. There was an event in Japan in 2021 to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the series.
Thats really dope

Bird is sad.
I like Soul Blazer the best.
The only one I completed, pretty fun game. Tried Illusion of Gaia but got lost in one dungeon and dropped it IIRC
Illusion of Gaia is superior in every way.
Terranigma just repeats the same themes and plot points that were already covered in Soul Blazer and Gaia. And does it with awful music, bad combat, and really dull art direction.

Robotrek is better than Terranigma.
holy frick what a homosexual
>And does it with awful music, bad combat, and really dull art direction.
You can like one more than the other, but saying this just makes it look like you have bad taste
Same.
>still have my copy from 1992
I forgot that you could buy an apartment in this game
he didn't deserve everything that happened
Isn't even basically God and/or Jesus Christ? The story kind of got confusing toward the end IMO.

I guess you can see it that way but its clear the devs were too busy fellating buddha to care about a christ figure, its definitely not intentional.
Actraiser 2 however, that was totally buff God-Jesus coming down to kick some ASS
Should be a common trope in vidya
That part in the castle in spain where you are forced to grind to do more than 1 damage per hit
You are supposed to use the light magic spell for the boss, the game doesnt tell you this, but you are not forced to grind
Oh really I never really used spells in the game since I usually end up hoarding consumables and never use them in jrpgs. Maybe I should play it again
You just have to buy the rings again once you use them but you keep the magirocks.
Honestly, the strangest thing in the series? Humans are NEVER fought, or at least never as humans or never directly in combat. It's usually undead or those transformed into monsters of some sort.
Beruga´s end was anticlimatic imo
That's the thing.
Beruga, the closest thing in Terranigma to a proper main antagonist dies before the final boss.

They probably just found the idea boring
I feel like this game was potentially a masterpiece but never quite achieved it. It's just good.
>Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time/Gaia and Terranigma will never get re-released
This is why video games are dying.
The soundtrack is so fricking good.
I still don't fully get what the point of the Astarica thing was, it was cool though
It was about showing a past life of all those characters, not sure about the bit with Elle getting god like powers though. The theme of resurrection is very present.
>Welcome to Micburger. What can I get you?
I like how innocent all of the stereotypical places are. I don't think you could pull that off today with how jaded people are nowadays.
I think Japanese writing is still like that for the most part, which can get kind of boring sometimes
But the west insistence of making everything into a parody, a joke, or a political statement it worse
Ordering a smile goes back that far? Can we still do it?
I still don't know how that company made Robotrek of all things, which was heavily flawed. Their track record was pretty spotless otherwise.
I remember pretty much getting softlocked in the first dungeon lol
Makes me wonder though, now are their action RPGs on the PS1, Granstream Saga and Brightis?
I never even heard about brightis before
I think Ganstream is worth playing if you can appreciate very low poly ps1 games
Brightis is japan only. There were some threads about it on /vr/ recently. Looks pretty cool, third person instead of top-down perspective.
I remember Granstream being simple but I had fun with it back in the day.
Granstream fits in the soul blazer series, worth playing if you liked the others
It's probably the weakest entry with its weird battle system, and it feels much smaller in scope
The dogshit VA in the last dungeon is hilarious
Play Granstream Saga
>Tfw all your Safarium friends gets captured and placed in a zoo

Well guess what
Chrono trigger and earthbound were never released in Europe while terranigma was not released in the US
Damn euros missed out on two of the greatest games of all time
We also missed on FF6
The only turn based RPG I ever had back then was Lufia 2
>terranigma was not released in the US
Shit sucks man. I would've loved that game as a kid.
It's the favorite of some, but I don't see people exaggerating its qualities, it's appreciated for what it is, not because it's better or worse than other games in the system. Either way, this game is too unknown to the average player to worry about overrating.

A well made anime of this game could be so amazing
Home.
Terranigma is a very good game.
Best spiky hair around.
