how and why did Omori get the insane popularity it did? its really nothing special.

how and why did Omori get the insane popularity it did? its really nothing special.
Doesn't invent anything new and just take ideas from YN, Undertale, Earthbound and end up being yet another MUH DEPRESSION generic zoomer game. Oneshot is a 10x more interesting experience if we're talking rpgm games, yet it gets barely any recognition
Is that the power of an expensive promotional campain + intense shilling?

    Omori isn't popular

Because it kinda nails that all too real phenomenon of "You don't actually know the people around you; just the IDEA of them" and puts it into a nostalgic little format.

People are lonely and want imaginary friends because nobody hangs out with them. Same thing as persona basically.

One Shot is more similar than you make it out to be, its just about having an imaginary son.

I played it on the switch and I finished that before finishing botw. So that means omochadri < btfo

I'd rather play Omori than a lot of the switch's supposed heavy hitters honestly.

Because the endings are actually good. I wouldn’t say that killing your sister then getting your friend to make it look like she hanged herself, while she was actually still alive after falling down the stairs, is a “generic zoomer” thing. It was an actually interesting take on mental defence mechanisms (dreamland/white room/black room/abyss) and on hikikOMORI type of people, and why they became hikikomori’s in the first place.

Reminder that the only way to deal with mass repliers is using a filter like this:
    /(?:>>d(?:(?!>>d)[^])*){10}/
You can change the 10 at the end to adjust how many post quotes it takes for the filter to work.
They want your attention so don't give it to them.

I've seen precisely zero conversation about Omori outside of Ganker, let alone any headlines the way Undertale, YN, or even YIIK got.
Even Library of Ruina, a game made by half a dozen asiatics in a sandwich shop, made more waves outside of Ganker than Omori

It's not about depression at all and you're a fricking big Black person for spamming this shit. If anything it's about guilt and learning to forgive yourself so you can move forward with your life.

And you're saying there was no depression involved in sunny's agony throughout the game?

        Anonymous

Not him, but I'd argue that if it's there, it takes a backseat to the rest of his issues. Sunny seems much more on the side of manic or bipolar than depressed. The only proper symptom he shows is lethargy, and even that doesn't seem to be an intense case, given how he can easily spend a few days out of the house. And when he finally stops repressing the truth about what happened, the part of him that wants to dwell is violently angry. Sure, it spewed a lot of negative thoughts that were technically coming from Sunny, but self-loathing can exist in a lot of cases other than depression.

It's not only about overcoming depression. It's about overcoming guilt and confronting reality.
The cute quirky earthbound/undertale-like world that Omori lives in is nothing but a lie, created to bury the truth.

    Why is this true?

      Anonymous

Here's what your missing: nice != beta, slave, or helper. People are naturally ambitious, greedy, and want more for themselves. But in our culture it discourages those values, and want us to "be happy" and "never chase your dreams". Coupled that with our culture of staying inside and not going outside (I see REAL LIFE people close their windows, not letting sunlight in their room, when sunlight is important to our mental health), people become depressed with themselves.
We even see it here: in the image all that's present is a knife, light bulb and a computer. The bare essentials needed for the modern depress man.
