The most iconic Western character imo is probably Master Chief, Commander Shepherd, Duke Nukem, Lara Croft, and Crash, but other than that yeah Western games do a good job of making forgettable ass characters that are too bitter to connect with. Warcraft used to be an exception, not anymore though
