How come after close to 20 years this is still the best (action?)RPG ever made?

How come after close to 20 years this is still the best (action?)RPG ever made?
Will new Fable, Avowed or Skyrim 2 (lmao) be able to challenge Gothic 2?

true, nothing really comes close. only chance in some autistic and talented slavs that understand what made gothic so great, to make a similar indie game of their own

Morrowind literally blows it out or the water and it's been this way for 20 years. Everyone preferred Morrowind back then and they still do if they want to play this kind of an immersive action RPG.

    >first playthrough
    >helping out at the farm and getting a discount on some proper clothes
    >getting into to town and choosing my first job
    >decide to become a blacksmith apprentice
    >cheesing the orc with the city guards
    >meeting my old friends from the new camp at onars farm
    >going into the old valley again
    >assembling your crew for the last chapter and facing the dragon
    >all that exploration
    >all that atmosphere
    >that monestary acceptance questline
    >people actually fear you after you've become a mage

it might be my nostalgia speaking, but for me gothic 2 still hasn't been surpassed

You make the mechanics sound similar to KC:D, is that apt?
