I can imagine him vetoing WonderSwan Color. That thing was a knee-jerk reaction to Game Boy Color, which itself was a knee-jerk reaction to WonderSwan. Yokoi would probably know about Nintendo's constantly delayed AGB project, so he could see that GBC was just a stopgap system instead of a real threat. He could delay WSC for a couple of years to make it more powerful in order to counter Game Boy Advance when that releases.
The car crash didn't kill him though, he was perfectly fine. What happened was he got out of the car to see the damage and another, completely unrelated car hit him.
Maybe but the Game Boy was kinda modeled after calculators in the first place. I don't see much that the GB and iPod both have that a graphing calculator doesn't.
He was getting old anon and his new creations were not that great be it the layout of the N64 controller, Virtual Boy controller/headset, or the WonderSwan. Chances are he would've retired from the industry in his mid 60s by the early-mid 2000s.
but i really do think he was killed tho
less for the just wonderswan, but more because how much the virtual boy lost AND the gall to turn around and then immediately make a direct competitor
he was an OG and worked for them when they were just a straight up gambling company. he knew the score. and he went and did it anyway
and then he got ded
That happen to the majority of the industry sadly
Yokoi wanted to make a game & watch 2.0 it was Okada who wanted a Famicom portable and designed the hardware
>Okada who wanted a Famicom portable and designed the hardware
that guy was just ridiculously talented. he's given us some hardware gems over the years.
Would have retired anyway
fpbp, if anything we're probably just getting more interviews and shit.

They had to compete with color or they'd lose too much ground. The problem was that their color system was ASS, Crystal is what WSC should've been.
Ultimately, the Wonderswan was a cool system, but too late to compete with the GB, and too early to compete with GBA.
>car crash
He was assassinated by Nintendo ninjas.
By car crash.
It verified was a car, of course it may have been a ninja behind the wheel.
The car crash didn't kill him though, he was perfectly fine. What happened was he got out of the car to see the damage and another, completely unrelated car hit him.
>"car" crash
>car crash
He was run over by yakuza henchmen.
Nintendo knew what they were doing.
why is nintendo so evil bros?
We would be on the virtual man by now for sure.
I still think he was a genius. iPod and subsequently iPhone wouldn't exist without him
Fricking lol the tendie self-delusion. I assure you the Gameboy wasn't in Jobs' or Ive's head at all.
Design-wise the iPod is still closer to a Game Boy, especially later models when they started putting games on it
>iPod and subsequently iPhone wouldn't exist without him
Don't make me hate the man.
not seeing the similarities except all of them being iconic

There would have been better Metroid or Kid Icarus games.
Nothing would be different because he didn't die in a car crash, he died in a pedestrian collision.

im glad this meme finally caught on

Nobody at Nintendo saw the WonderSwan as a threat. Thing wasn't that popular. At most it probably was the reason why the GBC was made.
its not about a threat
its about respect
Satoru Okada is the true inventor of the game boy
Yokoi steal his reputation
yokoi is like miyamoto, some people give them all the credit and forget about the rest of the people involved.
That happen to the majority of the industry sadly
