It's not boring. Basically, you have to play them for a while to let them click. Great gameplay alone can't carry the JRPGs, though. The one you posted is a bad FFX clone. If you want to play something enjoyable, play FFX. It's the first JRPG I suggest to others.
this should have been an action RPG, it's a shame the graphcis art style and setting were wasted on a generic turned based slop with no innovation or originality whatsoever
This game actually has a good combat system with useful status effects and turn manipulation, why'd you want it to be some generic action RPG button masher?
JRPGs are computerized TTRPGs so those are a good place to start. If you don't "get" dark fantasy settings I suggest reading some Tolkien as his work inspired the creation of the original DnD supplement for an existing wargame. Once you can get into dark fantasy settings then you're pretty much ready for whatever JRPG of your choice.
Play the original Final Fantasy (ideally the PSX version, the best port) to get an understanding of where the genre's roots came from, so you can see how they were actually trying to make a computerised form of DnD.
After that, the rest of the genre starts to make a little more sense, because you can see where it came from. Otherwise, the vast majority of jRPGs will leave you asking "how exactly is this even an RPG?"
But even then, just remember that jRPGs are a very mixed bag, there's a few gems buried in an absolute ocean of totally worthless, and I honestly mean complete genuine trash, weeaboo shoenen kiddy bullshit. If you try enough, you are bound to find a few you enjoy; but if you don't like a game, don't try too hard to get into it. The fanboys online are more than likely just manchild anime pedo morons.
Ff1 is too esoteric I made my party and had no idea where to go or what my ultimate goal was. I wandered north west got into a dungeon and instantly died
I honestly drink some beer before I start one.

>I don't like thing
>How do I get into thing?
Just piss off and go play something you do like you fricking idiot.

It was better than the game it blatantly ripped off in a lot of ways.

They are by and large droning, repetitive and boring. You're not missing much.
>How do i get into JRPGs?
be born in the 70s or 80s
Embrace the grind. Be molded by it. Ascend as bullshit secret bosses slayer.
Ugh, just play chrono cross first (emulated), if you like them move onto other jrps. Starting with some niche (western?) Lots jrpg is not recommended.
What? Thats a horrible suggestion. The JRPG memes of just mash X are true for that one

>its anime so its pedo
stop projecting so much
find cheats to get to level 99 and remove random encounters so you don't have to engage with the terrible "gameplay"
enjoy the comfy story and world
