    Simple, state the truth:
It is better than the N64.

But it had no 3D platforming game.

It did, the N64 had no:
        RPGs
        Horror games
        2D shooters
        good games.

I have never seen the grey Sega Saturn. I assumed it lost cause it was Black and the only successful black console was the PS2

The Saturn was white in Japan

I did not know that. Interesting, it was also far more successful in Japan than the west.

The model 1 was grey and the model 2 was white in Japan. All models were black in America and Europe with grey buttons on the Euro models (not pictured).

Don't use a moronic architecture, and make it backwards compat to Sega Genesis/CD/32x. It literally has a cartridge slot in the back

iirc it was a pain in the ass to pirate for until much later. with ps1s there were modchips and swap cds very early on.

It had simple mod chips that required 1 wire soldering, simpler than PS1 mod chips even.

If anything, it was a pain in the ass to emulate until a few years ago.
Back in the day, there was SSF, a single emulator writtin by an autistic ching chong. People couldnt play titles like they could the PSX.

Not that any control scheme for Burning Rangers is good. It's more about finding the least awful option for your personal preference.

Have Sega not shit out both the CD and 32x meaning people in the west aren't as soured due to the extra hardware latched onto the Genesis, don't jump the gun on releasing it meaning there's less available on launch and pissing off the stores making it harder to get games into people's hands, don't build the hardware in a way that that makes it difficult to develop games for, have Sega of America not be pants on head moronic and refuse to localize games

When I was a kid I wanted a Saturn so bad. Fortunately my parents got an N64 instead.

    >don't be moronic with the hardware
    >delay the release until you have actual dev tools and documentation and are able to produce enough units to not frick over retailers
    >bring games over to the west instead of artificially strangling the library with the five star game horseshit
    >make an actual fricking sonic game
The saturn actually did better than the N64 in japan, it could have done decently in the west if sega wasn't moronic. Nintendo fricked up with choosing carts and scared away every third party dev, sega could've easily capitalized on this and come in 2nd place.

      >>make an actual fricking sonic game
pretty much all they had to do

false all they needed to do was fire every fricker at sega of america for sabotaging sega of japan because they believed the future was keeping the genesis around.

the saturn port of sonic 3d blast was originally planned to be a sequel called "3d blast of sonic's cum", a game that promised to blow giant cumloads onto the player's face and clothes. it was cancelled because the programmers got too horny trying to work on it and could never make any progress. the final game contains an unused graphic of the words "YOU CAN'T DODGE THIS" that was meant to rapidly flash on screen before the unspeakable happened.

Sega always had this moronic tactic of rushing out a console before the competition which was always in this awkward inbetween tech that was better than previous gen but not as good as what Nintendo and Sony would release later.

SOA pretty much did everything in their power to make sure the Saturn failed: just wanted to support Genesis forever with more shitty add-ons, rush release and shadow drop the Saturn out of nowhere, refuse to localize any rpg creating an extremely lackluster library in the west, promote Saturn as a 3D console when it was primarily a 2D console with some 3D capability.
So basically do the opposite of all those things and could've actually done ok here.
