I'm Russian and I was mostly buying games for 10+ years because I have a job, because Steam offers cool sales and regional prices. Of course, I simply can't buy some games anymore.
Remove them from the face of the Earth or coup their respective governments, integrate them fully into the Western system and win them over with so much money and convenience that they no longer feel a need to pirate.

Steam managed to stop piracy in one of those countries with local pricing that was actually very affordable, damn near killed it. Then one day publishers decided the games should cost three to four times as much for "dollar parity" and now piracy is full on back because that's not how purchasing power works in third world countries.
Game creators were losing money from people in first-world nations using a VPN to buy them at those third-world nation prices. Didn't help VPN companies kept advertising this exploit to potential customers.
So the loss in revenue from subhumans who willingingly allowed their country to turn into a shithole (because all they do is shit on their bum playing video games) isn't really a big deal. First-worlders still want to have that stupid mouse icon next to their username on their Steam account, but they have no incentive to use a VPN to get that mouse icon for cheap anymore.
