How do you tell someone that you just really like videogames when the term "Gamer" has been absolutely ruined forever and causes irreparable cringe and damage to my soul every time it is muttered?

I always tell people that I don't play games as much as I used to. It establishes that I do, and if they want to talk about them they can, but I avoid looking like a sperg.
This is me.
I like play videogames.
What's wrong with gamer?
What's right with it?
>answering a question with a question
People being born after the 90s was a huge mistake.
>What's wrong with being a gamer?
Say that again while looking at yourself in the mirror
Is the vidya Candyman gonna get me if I do?
I usually mention I play games but I enjoy arcade games more, I can then talk about the few pinball machines I own and that usually leads to a "that's so fricking cool".
video game enjoyer n4nyg
I am ashamed
there's so few games i'm interested in nowadays that i wouldn't call myself a gamer even if it wasn't cringe
>gamer
>ruined
You talk as if anyone but gigahomosexuals ever referred to themselves as gamers.
Before 2007 it was quite normal and non-cringy to refer to yourself as one
I don't know, whenever I'd hear 'I'm a gamer' I think of someone who's interested in being a part of a group rather than being interested in actually playing vidya. Like women often do.
I never call myself a gamer I just say I enjoy playing video games. It’s not hard. Like today I was talking to a coworker about ghosts of whatever the frick it’s called and the new spider man game. Didn’t have to go turbo autist talking about it.
In what situation would you have to say you're a gamer instead of being able to say "i like video games" or "i play games sometimes"
cuz gamers like to pretend that their hobby is akin to being a "writer/illustrator/singer" when in reality it's no different than saying you like movies or books
You can make money by having people watch you read a book because you're really good at it? There are book reading streamers? lol
that already has a name dummy, you call them streamers/content creators
>the term "Gamer" has been absolutely ruined forever
Calling yourself a 'gamer' was always seen as stupid. It was like saying 'epic' or 'pwned' in real life. You just sounded like a moron.
Unfortunately this is not the case anymore. I blame social media.
"Dude yeah I'm a gamer, but I'm not like other gamers. I'm pretty smart and well adjusted actually, and I only play hardcore games, none of that casual shit, y'know? Yeaaap I platted Bloodborne, that's a pretty big deal, kinda makes me a big deal hehe, lotsa people look up to me, y'know, like my little cousin and his friends, I show them all the cool tricks in Fortnite and pwn all the other kids when we play together. Y'know if I streamed I'd probably be bigger than Ninja, poggers amirite? ;^) But I'm not an attention prostitute like that, not interested in being some kinda loser e-celeb, y'know. I'm happy to be recognized in select circles of elite gamers like mysself, yeah I've got a reputation in those circles, people know and respect me for my gaming skills and shit, y'know? Anyway, what's your name anyway?"
>How do you tell someone that you just really like videogames
You don't.
