I played them a bit, but it always felt like Microsoft trying to move in on ratchet and clank's success

And Jak and Daxter was released one year before the first Ratchet and Clank btw

Pretty good I'd say. The art style is distinct and you really can't find this particular style of platformer anywhere else

      >Microsoft
      They're PS titles though

Well. The first one is simple, kino platforming and the 2nd one throws a shitton of new mechanics onto the pan. They must look great on pcsx2

Jak 1 is still replayable to this day. Playforming kino. Jak 2 is a fun change of direction but I don’t not find myself wanting to replay it much. Jak 3 is more of Jak 2, but with a badass vehicle sandbox. A very welcome addition and I replay it just to ride around in it sometimes. Jak X is racing kino. Still play it from time to time. tfw no online

        >Jak 2 is a fun change of direction
It was so jarring seeing pure Jak going full edge stealing jets and even holding gun sideways. Still, I enjoyed exploring the city, it was quite intricate

The mission variety was top tier
          >platforming in cool setpieces like in the Precursor Temple or across the big beams to the palace
          >less platforming more combat
          >jetboard missions
          >racing
          >rail shooting sections
          >time trial/ring sections
          >the frickin gun courses
          >precursor orb hunting
The overworld itself may have aged but the missions were what made the game

I agree with you. Except the seal of mar in the water slums, FRICK that mission.

That mission is easy just keep punching your way through the guards you don't even have to kill all of them no guns needed.

I ended up using the hoverboard over the planks, you can get under most of them before they unload from the dropships.

I always roll jump and do spinshots taking no damage. The game unironically has a learning curve.

The original game is still a pretty decent platformer. Doesn't really do anything that would shock you since its big innovation at the time was just "we have a large world with almost no load screens." But the controls are pretty tight and it's worth playing.
2 and 3 turn into really watered down GTA clones since that was the trend they were chasing at the time. The plot gets pretty nonsensical and there are a lot of minigames/sidequests to pad things out, but there are still some decent moments.
Jak X is a pretty fun racing game. Again, doesn't do anything really innovative and the story is even less consequential, but I'd honestly put it above 3 at least.

The first one is the best, and always will be.

If you are the type of person who loves to see inertia and weight in animations and movements, holy frick these are the best games ever made. The running animation combined with stick feel make these games THE 3rd person platformers.
Games like a hat in time manage to make the whole thing feel like it has no animations. J&D is the opposite; you will time various actions with the animations and it feels glorious.

1 Is still amazing. One of the best 3d collectathon platformers.
2 is a bit rough as they made a 180 to try and mix gta with some action platformer sections. It's not awful but it's nowhere near as good as 1.
3 is a big step up from 3 and while it still has the gta elements it's not quite as all consuming and traded a good chunk of it for vehicle combat.

Haven city feels like a large ass hub between levels in 2 if you replay these days. The missions are all really good though

Jak 1 is Super Mario 64
Jak 2 and 3 are GTA
Jak X is Burnout with Mario Kart pickups, one of the game types is literally blowing up as many cars as you can, ripped straight from Burnout.

If you can deal with the fact they have zero originality (even the art is anime inspired) then they're worth playing.

The Precursor Legacy is probably best platformer to come out for Sony post-PS1 and is the best platformer ND ever made, Jak II and 3 are solid follow ups that detract from the pure collectathon fun but are still good, Jak X is a fun little arcade racer.

    1 is great.
    2 is shit.
    3 is alright.
    And games don't 'age'

They are some PS2-ass PS2 games, very much products of their time. I think 1 and 3 hold up mostly, not so much 2, but I only say that because it can get miserably difficult.

Jak 1 aged pretty poorly but it's fun if you like that kind of dated platforming.
Jak 2 is overall better but driving around is kind of annoying.
Jak 3 I haven't replayed since back then but iirci t was pretty fun driving around.
Jak X same thing as 3.
