macgay here. it's pretty shit, as you'd expect. we make such a small part of the gaming world that it's just not worth it for most devs to support our OS. Major games like Elden Ring will never ever make it to MacOS. To make things worse, we can't even play 32-bit games anymore, so older mac games like Portal no longer work.
At least you can still emulate games then lots of emulators has Mac support
yeah definitely. even on M1 all the emulators work perfectly, except the N64 one for some reason. that one gives me problems constantly
but honestly for anyone considering a Mac, I highly recommend it if you're a programmer, use Logic Pro and/or want to specialize in apple dev. Just get the Mac, an Xbox and a switch and you have access most games worth playing. But if you're just an average joe who will use it to write Word documents, watch porn and play vidya just get a PC. Having to use VMs for all the major games, which may or may not work, is not fun. also if you're a gamedev, UE5 barely runs on MacOS, and UE4 runs like shit and there's a lot of important stuff it doesn't support
Use parallels + pdrunner. Lets you play PC games on a VM. Not the best but it’s something.

Some years back gaming on Mac was actually fairly viable with a bunch of good PC ports, nowadays you’re lucky to get table scraps despite the fact that the specs and uniformity of Apple’s own silicon would make them an excellent gaming platform.

Gaming is very difficult, cumbersome, and requires a lot of tweaking. It can be done in CrossOver and Parallels but its very hit or miss.
I play WoW Private Servers from vanilla to WotLK in Parallels, Atelier Ryza 1 and 2 in CrossOver, and FFXIV with XIVonMac which runs incredibly well almost as good as my gaming desktop.
Gaming is rough since everything is developed for x86 and Mac has to go through multiple layers of translation between emulators, Rosetta2, and your likely using some DirectX to OpenGL translators since Vulkan API doesn't bode well with Metal(yet) -- Hoping this changes with Metal 3 and its looking great for gaming but what matters is support.
You will suffer but learn a lot if you begin gaming on mac. But expect the old way of gaming on Linux: Constant tweaking and fricking around until after you get it right you don't even want to play a game anymore.

I have a MacBook Air that I mainly use for uni and watching shit in bed. I can emulate handheld games and nes/snes stuff well, and i can play shit like stardew valley on it, but anything more demanding I don’t bother. I could maybe (?) run league of legends but I don’t really want to (a) download it and (b) sacrifice any and all female companionship
My family got mine 3 years ago when I first went away to school so mine doesn’t have the M1 chip. I have my own PC to game with, so I survive but I’m sure with it it’s miles better

Unity runs, löve2d, mono has issues, gamemaker only 2.x, godot runs.
But yes on windows it should be easier.
