How is this game so popular when it is technically such a steaming pile of shit?
I've been trying all week to start a playthrough of it. I've managed to stop it crashing constantly -- albeit only by installing half a dozen anti-crash mods, along with a bunch of dependencies, and it still crashes infrequently -- but now I can't get any further because I keep falling through the ground. I mean what the frick? How is literally one of the most profitable companies on the planet still demanding money for this shit?

There are so many guides that explain how to run this game stable. You can't download every fricking anti-crasher, especially since some of them make your game MORE LIKELY to crash

On one hand, it is abysmal how Bestesda expects their audience to stop their game crashing for them and take the time to install a plethora of mods to fix basic things like making quests work, on the other hand there are plenty of instructions on what type of mods you should install. I suggest looking at Viva New Vegas if you want mods that fix the game up while still preserving the vanilla experience.

oh that's without a debate for sure, but gun play wise it's really hardly a step up from 3. Ironsights are nice but not when they aren't aligned properly. Mods make NV definitely the best modern fallout, by a country mile, but vanilla has all the same roughness as 3 does IMO.

And Sawyer clearly took charge because he wanted to make IWD again, in the dev commentary there is tons of parallels to IWD, right down to dungeon and encounter structure. (Not BG as they advertised it) Yes, you could ultimately argue they did this to create an IP to sell out to Microsoft, but PoE was the only time Obsidian was genuinely even close to being like the Black Isle they pretended to be and clearly they had people on staff of the same mindset and goals, even if ultimately the higher ups had other plans.

Ice Wind Dale 2 is literally the first CRPG I played it and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit until I got stuck in a dragon boss battle. The game had its merits but apparently it was super rushed, since Sawyer has always been shit at meeting deadlines.
Try IWD2EE, a fan mod free of beamdog shit and it's great and it takes a lot of design beats from PoE where it deviates from the original like new crazy gear that synergizes in unique ways, more dangerous monster functions, etc

New Vegas was literally unplayable on launch and it only sold well because Fallout 3 was such a massive hit. The game is not popular these days tho, it has less concurrent players than fricking Fallout 76.

New Vegas is not a dungeon crawler. Almost every location and quest is just an excuse for the game to dump a lot of dialogue on the player.

Black mountain was a pretty good location it’s funny that super mutants are OP in NV because they can’t reload their weapons because they’re missing reload animations.
I also always use NMC’s texture pack because I think the base game is ugly and used to install Nevada Skies until the mod author kept updating it to the point it didn’t resemble the original version anymore.

New Vegas Anti Crash is known to frick up on windows 10+ systems and cause falling through the ground. Recommend you literally just 4gb patch it and nothing else. A lot of fix mods are a decade+ old at this point and don't work with modern drivers, operating systems, or even other mods.
My new vegas save was fricked for years until I realized the culprit was NVAC. Never install that piece of shit unless you're on windows Vista for some reason.

Most FNV players don't really care for the gameplay that much; they just want the in-game characters to like them, and they want the end-game credits to validate them. Every praise had for the game is disingenuous; the fans have already decided it's "good" because it was probably their first fallout game, and they are simply fishing for anything to validate their opinions. This is why FNV fans will talk about how the gunplay is better than F3 when it's essentially identical aside from the fact that you can now load your pistol with a bullet that does +10% damage to unarmored targets.

When I first played F2 with the restoration mod installed I didn't realize it reimplemented the encounter where he actually sends a deathsquad to kill you, and I almost lost 2 hours of progress. Fortunately the Louisville Slugger + psycho jinxed build is undefeatable.

It’s because most devs take the “tell your own story” advice the completely wrong way. They think you’re supposed to just throw the player in and tell them to do whatever. There is barely any actual interactivity with the world. Most of the skill barely come up and only serve as set dressing or as a means to boost some aspect of regular gameplay slightly. Take Fallout 4 you can do anything but barely anyone actually acknowledges you outside of barks from various NPCs saying that’s the guy. In NV you have much more variety. For instance in the side quest Restoring Hope you have to heal wounded NCR soldiers, you can go about this by either using you medical skill or various misc and aid items scattered across the tent. And if you have a low medicine skill then you frick up and it’s show you a fail message.
It ran fine on my xbox. Maybe one or two crashes in an entire playthrough and the normal minor jank like bodies spazzing on the ground
My ONLY gripe with Fallout NV is that the world is so fricking empty. I know the developers were on a tight schedule and had to focus on actually writing the game, but it still doesn't make the game world any less barren.
I'm not even talking about the desert I'm referring to the actual down town area. I especially hate how everything is broken up into smaller world spaces and separated by loading screens. Why did they have to cut the strip into three different cells when fallout 3, an older game made on the same exact engine, had huge areas like The Mall and Adam's AFB without running out of RAM?
Freeside is another culprit of this. Anyone else remember the day 1 release of NV had guards patrolling the gunrunners building, or how each gate to freeside had multiple bodyguards? They removed those along with a ton of other details in the game world for performance sake. This doesn't make any sense, especially considering how the DLC zones like Dead Money and Lonesome Road are super dense with not only NPCs and static objects, but XMarkers and Activators/Bounding Boxes as well.
Yeah they just couldn’t optimize the NPCs, they wanted freeside to be an actual city with tons of people but because they’re incompetent they somehow turned the area into memory leak central.

There’s a mod to fix that, restore the strip or something like that.
IIRC there’s like four and three of them are buggy and game killing and then there’s “Simple Open Freeside” and that’s the one that works just like “Simple Open Strip”
