it seems like they cut it out to balance the game since npcs were removed, I'm guessing once they're added back the insanity shit will be restored to counter-balance solo builds that let you run into a forest and survive indefinitely on your own without any human contact

You joking? Carpentry is literally the most useful skill, several different useful buildables are hidden behind it. Most meta players spend a significant portion of time building wood floors and dismantling radios.
I wish it had multiplayer(again) so there's a point to staying alive at all. NPCs are braindead and I hate having to tardwrangle the npcs to wear certain clothes, weapons etc. I just want to play with my friend so I have someone to watch my back and go out on loot runs with.
