It's about 95% done, anon
The last 5% is npcs and finishing multiplayer
Multiplayer is almost all done, and when people managed to change the code and play multiplayer before the devs intended, they found that it worked almost perfectly, apart from items not loading in a cabinet for an anon until he relogged.
Is there anything in the game that makes lategame interesting yet? My experience was that if you found a good place to build your base, stocked up on the right resources and knew how to properly set up your crops then you could basically just afk in your base.
This is the one thing that makes the game not a 10/10 imo, late game there is very little to do unless you're an autist like me who likes to break survival records and whatnot. NPC mods do make it pretty fun though, because it can be a lot more interesting to manage an outpost with lots of people, instead of on your own.
Once multiplayer comes out that'll also give you a little more to do.
>it's about 95% done, anon
That's bullshit and you know it. There's a lot of planned features that will take years for them to implement, such as pic related.
The devs are fricking hacks and the game would be dead in the water without their conbtracted russians
It's going to take decades for them to add everything, but literally everything required to make the game incredibly fun can be found right now, and the most important remaining features are NPCs and Multiplayer, both of which are on the roadmap before random trash like hunting which has already been in the game since Hydrocraft added it
Have they? I heard otherwise, but if you're right my bad.
Why the frick are these morons adding hunting, a completely meaningless mechanic that adds barely anything to the game, before NPCs?

Basically because npcs with an AI that works in the world of Project Zomboid is pretty damn complicated to develop. Have you played with those npc mods? They always end up getting themselves killed by an horde attracted by their gunshots or bleeding to death because they keep climbing broken windows for no reason.
>both which are on the roadmap before random trash like hunting
That's only true for multiplayer. Build 44 will be focused on introducing the npcs into the game world, while build 42 (after they're done fixing the multiplayer since the new animations made it necessary) will be focused on animals and hunting mechanics.
you can frick off, butthole
they've been dicking around for YEARS with this "dozens of players from across the globe all at once like a MMO thing" shit, just release your goddam multiplayer so i can play with a handful of friends
and the NPCs have been in the works for the better part of a decade now, supposedly. the development is a garbage fire and basically always has been
>they've been dicking around for YEARS with this "dozens of players from across the globe all at once like a MMO thing" shit, just release your goddam multiplayer so i can play with a handful of friends
You realize multiplayer has always been available, right Anon? Just not in Build 41.
>completely barebones
Everying is pretty fleshed out tbh, you'll have a hard time finding a game with as much depth and realism when it comes to mechanics, weapons, and survival than Zomboid, and mods fill the rest of the gaps.
>uou'll have a hard time finding a game with as much depth and realism when it comes to mechanics, weapons, and survival than Zomboid
no you wouldn't, it's called CDDA and it's free
Tired of this meme. Would you say to someone who likes DayZ to play CDDA? Even Zomboid and CDDA are vastly different games both in how they handle zombies and the like along with CDDA playing as a turnbased tilebased game. He is right, Zomboid is pretty great despite the devs. If I want to play an ascii game I would go for CDDA, but jf I want a realtime game Zomboid is the choice to go.
you get an F for reading comprehension. I wasn't even comparing the games 1:1 I was responding to a very specific statement: "you'll have a hard time finding a game with as much depth and realism when it comes to mechanics, weapons, and survival than Zomboid"
obviously CDDA is going to get brought up if you say something like that. I'm not saying CDDA>Zomboid or every zomboid player should switch but it's a very legitimate response to that statement

You still will have a hard time finding a game like CDDA, it's not exactly main stream, he's right
Furthrermore, CDDA is unique in it's depth, and it can even be considered a flaw
There's an NPC mod which makes a lot of the building work easier if you assign people jobs.
The most important thing to remember with building though, is that every tile you build will be there forever unless you choose to burn it down.
i don't remember well but i installed an NPC mod for single player wich added an insane amount of NPC's into the world at once, interactions were barebones and they were only capable of fighting a couple of zeds and loot very slowly a room.
>development taking ages >game's made in Java >still can't play it stable with high zombie counts without running out of RAM and stuttering constantly as Java's incoherent GC struggles to clear memory from it's wheelchair >half the time it doesn't even clear most of the memory and there's pretty evident leaks going on in the background
Man I love this game but the fricking performance can suck shit sometimes
you have to go out of your way to play it ascii now. It has a tileset by default from the main launcher. I get your point though it does take a degree of autism to play CDDA, but you're rewarded with one of the deepest and most complex games ever so it's worth it. I don't blame anyone who can't into CDDA but I genuinely think they're missing out and I'm glad I can enjoy it
CDDA with the graphical interface of zomboid would be perfect, but holy shit there is no way I'm going to play a zombie game where the zombies are just represented by the letter "Z"
I made a highway to my cabin in the woods and built up a huge ass farm. I can take my van to and from it and stock the fortified warehouse/gas station in town for when I'm looting the place with my friend.
I don't know how to preserve food for the winter though. Am I expected to just keep the generator on permanently to power a freezer to preserve my crops then or is there a way to grow things that won't spoil? I don't really know what to expect for a sustainable way to produce food since I thought at first I could just grow a frickton of potatoes, but now it seems like those potatoes are going to go bad before winter ends.
>is there a way to grow things that won't spoil
If you've been collecting jars, vinegar, and salt, you can preserve food using that
Trapping, fishing, and foraging for food become pretty important through winter, though
I was wondering what the sustainable way to get/sustain food during the winter was, I haven't had a lot of luck finding vinegar and salt, plus to my knowledge once a map runs out of them, you can't use that method anymore. I didn't realize trapping and fishing worked during the winter though.
I had thought you couldn't forage at all in the winter so I just sort of ignored it. I wasn't sure how potent fishing was since I've heard you can overfish an area pretty quickly, but I haven't actually tried it yet.
Can you craft fishing supplies with renewable stuff? I know that fishing line isn't, but I wasn't sure if you could renew twine used for it. I know trapping has traps that only require wood and such though.
I fricking love this game. This is coming from a CDDA fan. Build 41 is so much fun. I love just waking up and living day by day tending to my survivor and companions. What mods are you using? For me it's superb survivors, Raven Creek map, swat items and clothing and some other quality of life mods that I can't remember. Can't wait to play more tomorrow!
If you're using the newest build, right click an item in your inventory and press place, I believe there is a key to change the level they're on, so you can put it on multiple layers of shelves or whatever, but I forget the exact key.
dont think it will get better than their old npcs tbh, considering the skill of the devs. i just hope by the time they get to npcs, they already add more depth to things like farming, cars, electronics.
>cars
What more depth could they add? Pretty much every single component is simulated pretty well, and can be damaged/repaired, replaced, etc.
The only real thing they could change is the potentiality of adding random modifications to a car, like a plow, but that's about it
Waiting for the multiplayer before I try getting really into it but the game seems to have no fricking end game. It seems like you just build a farm on your roof with some water catchers and your golden, ponyboy.
Is dealing with winter supposed to be the end game?
Has anyone been able to crack the multiplayer in the current build? They changed up the networking code so it's no longer possible to do it the old way with just changing a few lines in lua.
Didn't the game not get finished? I never bought it, I had heard the dev was lazy and claimed his laptop was stolen a few times.
It's about 95% done, anon

stop shilling lemmy, the devs have confirmed that npcs come after the hunting/firearm rebalance
Have they? I heard otherwise, but if you're right my bad.

SHUT the FRICK up. Last 5% my ass the devs are gonna take at least 3 years to add NPCs much less multiplayer.
The devs are fricking hacks and the game would be dead in the water without their conbtracted russians

shame because the game itself is really good

You realize multiplayer has always been available, right Anon? Just not in Build 41.
yeah i know but they've dripfed enough content into the game that playing the MP compatible versions is like a portal back in time
it's just fricking dumb
yep. Over 10 years in early access and it's still completely barebones
>completely barebones

Why are you lying?
Pretty damn boring to be honest. Playing single player is a pain in the ass since building stuff is so fricking slow.
There's an NPC mod which makes a lot of the building work easier if you assign people jobs.
The most important thing to remember with building though, is that every tile you build will be there forever unless you choose to burn it down.

play Nearly Dead
The graphical styles of Nearly Dead and CDDA filter me too hard, bros. I unironically can't into nu-sprites or ascii shit
I'm sorry to hear that
>the ONE fricking chance we had of an actual proper zombie survival game
>its devved by literal morons
why bros
>development taking ages
>game's made in Java

game works completely fine for me.
Can I built a cage and have pet zombies in this?
I want a game that lets me capture zombies and feed them bandits that I come across.
Why play this when CDDA exists?
Not everyone has the autism to play top down ascii games
you have to go out of your way to play it ascii now. It has a tileset by default from the main launcher. I get your point though it does take a degree of autism to play CDDA, but you're rewarded with one of the deepest and most complex games ever so it's worth it. It's less abundant, but if you've got any levels in either it shouldn't be too bad
I know trapping has traps that only require wood and such though.
there should be mods dealing with preservation
Its insane how fast cdda evolves and how slowly zomboid devolves
I fricking love this game. This is coming from a CDDA fan. Build 41 is so much fun. I love just waking up and living day by day tending to my survivor and companions. What mods are you using? For me it's superb survivors, Raven Creek map, swat items and clothing and some other quality of life mods that I can't remember. Can't wait to play more tomorrow!
i thought you couldnt set items on the tables?
It's the newest update baka
how do i do it friend?
Right click an item in your inventory and hit "Place".
If you're using the newest build, right click an item in your inventory and press place, I believe there is a key to change the level they're on, so you can put it on multiple layers of shelves or whatever, but I forget the exact key.
I wish I could mount zomboid's graphics and movement into a cdda skeleton, with all the content
Have they mentioned what kind of plans they have with the official NPCs? Will they be more intelligent/have more interactions than Superb survivors?
dont think it will get better than their old npcs tbh, considering the skill of the devs. i just hope by the time they get to npcs, they already add more depth to things like farming, cars, electronics.
