Age of Calamity has more robust gameplay, but enemy troops rarely actually seek out bases outside of a few scripted sequences so the game is much easier as you do not need to prioritize objectives.
Age of Calamity's combat is slightly more fun and there's more enemies on screen, but it has a way worse roster, it runs less well, its battles are generally more linear and overall it just has less value.
I have play both Legends and Definitive edition and they are both really fun, but can get repetitive. Haven't play Age of Calamity though I heard it has less content, probably because it's only based on one game instead of the entire series.
Age of Calamity is great, but you'll enjoy it more depending on how much you liked BOTW.
DE is a more traditional musou game, but it has a lot of content and it's not limited to a single game in the series.
I've played both and I would say DE by far.
AoC does some fun stuff in a different vein than DE, but there are some sections that just look and run so incredibly shitty it drags the game down as a whole.
I commend AoC for not feeling samey for its characters. It's amazing how a seemingly similar Teba and Revali play so functionally different and the former mogs the latter so thoroughly to boot
I like how it has a lot of games represented but managed to pull anything significant from any of the titles nor give them movesets that wasn't a disappointment.
I don't know if they did it again in AoC or not, but I hate how the first one has all these other characters you can play as a big selling point, but then intentionally makes Link with the Master Sword the best in the game so you just use that when you aren't forced to use someone else.
You need to do quite a lot of adventure mode content to actually unseal the Master Sword though. The C3 is pretty OP even at its base, but there are other really good characters.
And mostly the best character is just whoever you have leveled the highest with the best weapon skills. Barring a few actual dogshit movesets, which are mostly in the minority.
the Rank 4+ weapons with the unsealed Master Sword skill could measure up to Master Sword Link pretty closely
Damage calculations put a hard cap on "strength" based on the mission. Unless you're very underleveled, it's not going to be a major factor. Other multipliers still apply, but even then, the Master Sword's attacks just do way more damage than anything else in the game. They're basically Ganandorf level damage, but they come out twice as fast
just turn the music off when you get to adventure mode grinding for the sake of your sanity >t. over 500 hours in all versions of hyrule warriors combined
Definitive Edition gets my vote. I didn't care for BOTW at all so AOC didn't do anything for me. DE has about a hundred times more content. To clear every map and buy all the abilities you're looking at around 500 hours. It truly is the ultimate "turn off your brain and have fun" game, although there IS challenge on some of the levels and you will not breeze through the entire thing. Also has way more characters.
Can't really decide since there isn't really any I can't at least tolerate, favorite 10 in no particular order: Ganondorf (Trident), Toon Link (Light Sword), Marin, Medli, Sheik, Darunia, Twili Midna, Linkle (Crossbow), King Daphnes and Ghirahim
I always make the mistake of only playing the characters I like so when I get to a square that's limited to one I don't like (Tingle, Agitha etc.) I then have to go and grind for several hours because that characters probably only level 15.
Get your ass to the dojo or whatever it's called and pay to level them, pal. A lot of people hate both those characters but I enjoy them, Tingle moreso.
I speak from a highly biased viewpoint so personally I think I had more fun with Hyrule Warriors DE than Age of Calamity.
But while I say this, I will admit, it might just be because it had like five characters that I absolutely loved playing, while AoC had two. I can't get enough of Linkle's moveset.
Get DE first. I thought it was a bit better and the roster is bigger so there's more to enjoy. AoC is fine and improves some gameplay elements from DE but feels a little lacking on parts I can't quite put my finger on, also frame rate issues.
Age of Calamity isn't a musou. Doesn't have the strategic element of DE.
Everytime I fired up AoC demo I was just 'thinking I could be playing the original instead' i highly recommend it if you like musous OR zelda. it also gives more characterization to some characters, like Fi is absolutely adorable
Adventure mode is the peak of musou gaming. It baffles me they don't outright steal the idea for every other release. Dynasty Warriors China sized map would be based.
Is it just me or does zelda's baton outright not work? She's locked in place for pretty much all of her combos making her awful at crowd control since she's swinging at air once the immediate vicinity is gone, and the gimmick of tagging enemies and then hitting them with the tornado doesn't work because enemies tagged die too quickly.
C4 is great at getting tornadoes. C5 works too but you need to be fast and cancel the ending. Even if you only get one tornado though, it's still pretty strong. And C1 often tags tornadoes on enemies right near where you start it, so in any case, its a fantastic area clearer (if you don't get any tags, just dodge out and try again). She can also use it to clear barrier keeps easily without magic/fairies. C6 also hits a huge area in front so it's also good for that.
The only situation where Baton is outright bad is those challenge battles where you have to fight one or two enemies alone.

if you want to try it I would start with DE; it has so much content and is basically just a big celebration of the entire Zelda series.
Get AoC later if you enjoyed the first one; but only if you also enjoyed BotW
I commend AoC for not feeling samey for its characters. It's amazing how a seemingly similar Teba and Revali play so functionally different and the former mogs the latter so thoroughly to boot
Okay but what if Zelda was a horse??
I like how it has a lot of games represented but managed to pull anything significant from any of the titles nor give them movesets that wasn't a disappointment.

You're still forced to run Link most of the time, but Zelda and Impa are somehow the top characters in AoC
You need to do quite a lot of adventure mode content to actually unseal the Master Sword though. The C3 is pretty OP even at its base, but there are other really good characters.
And mostly the best character is just whoever you have leveled the highest with the best weapon skills. Barring a few actual dogshit movesets, which are mostly in the minority.

no one is stopping you from having fun playing other characters
the Rank 4+ weapons with the unsealed Master Sword skill could measure up to Master Sword Link pretty closely
Nah, not even top tier.
Eh only in story mode.
Also nope. Teba is the best character in the game.
Both are pretty fun tbh, get AOC if you liked botw a lot, or get the original HW if you want a lot of fanservice, and big fat brown breasts
Also why does almost every single adventure mod battle use the same fricking song when the enemy commander comes out?
just turn the music off when you get to adventure mode grinding for the sake of your sanity
>t. over 500 hours in all versions of hyrule warriors combined
don't mind me, just posting best map theme
>not a single track made it into smash ultimate
Definitive Edition is much more fun
Age of Calamity is cool if you like Breath of the Wild better than all the rest of Zelda combined.
DE gets that eventual same-feely combat
Definitive Edition gets my vote. I didn't care for BOTW at all so AOC didn't do anything for me. DE has about a hundred times more content. Age of Calamity's more fun overall and completing it isn't a sisyphean task.
but definitive will definitely give you more time if you're willing to put it in.
>but definitive will definitely
Favorite character to use in Definitive Edition?
For me it's Darunia.
Hard to pick because I like them all. Probably played Volga the most. I'm about 90% done with Adventure Mode. Haven't played in a long time.
Ganondorf, literally all Links, Volga, and Ghirahim
Big Brown Bouncy Boobies
Every Ganondorf, every Linkle, and motherfricking VOLGA.
Can't really decide since there isn't really any I can't at least tolerate, favorite 10 in no particular order: Ganondorf (Trident), Toon Link (Light Sword), Marin, Medli, Sheik, Darunia, Twili Midna, Linkle (Crossbow), King Daphnes and Ghirahim
>there isn't really any I can't at least tolerate
Even Great Fairy Link?
Ok I forgot that was in the game.
Skullkid for bias reasons
but Zelda and young link are probably the best gameplay wise. Also Zant is alright.
having to play as Zant makes me want to die
Sheik to tryhard, Ganandorf and Twilight Midna for fun.
Linkle with boots
For me, it's Skull Kid, Marin, Yuga, both Ganons, and Young Link
Cia is great at pretty much everything, but if it's not a particularly difficult mission I liked to play marin
I always make the mistake of only playing the characters I like so when I get to a square that's limited to one I don't like (Tingle, Agitha etc.) I then have to go and grind for several hours because that characters probably only level 15.

But that's expensive as frick, takes like 700,000 to bring one up to level 50. whats the best way to grind rupees?
Probably a Termina mission with its higher weapon drops.
But the better way to quickly level characters is the A8 square on Master Quest.
>Agitha
Age of Calamity is for BoTW fans only.
Hyrule Warriors is about fanservice. You'll like it more if you played and loved all the Zelda games. AoC is a more serious story based game.
Get DE first. I thought it was a bit better and the roster is bigger so there's more to enjoy. AoC is fine and improves some gameplay elements from DE but feels a little lacking on parts I can't quite put my finger on, also frame rate issues.
Yeah framerate drops are extremely common, emulating on PC doesn't even fix it..

Play DW7. Or don't, because that mode sucked.
don't
🙁
>finally get 90 skulltulas
>still can't find hasty attacks
