You people have always weirded me out. The "virtual dating" aspect has become such a central part of JRPGs to you people that you actually refuse to play a game without it?
Video games are not suppose to compensate for you lack of female attention.
Persona and modern Fire Emblem have absolutely ruined the JRPG landscape. I've seen it for years now, people immediately dismissing games that don't let you date the girls.
I personally blame Xenoblade 2 more than anything. Never has a series gone from somewhat-unique-JRPG in X1 to full-coomer-Japanese-humor-slop in X2.
That shit is uncanny.
It's genuinely so odd to me that FE has become one of the forerunners ofvthis because supports as a format fricking suck for this kind of thing. You get three scenes that last like two minutes, a confession, and that's it. I guess FE differieniates itself by lettting you "ship" all your units but do waifugays even care about who supposedly fricks who in the one paragraph epilogues if it doesn't relate their waifu?
That in FE:3H its not a harem and the other male characters get some b***hes is actually extremely interesting and good. Adds more to the immersion compared to having some top-tier woman being femcels because the MC didn't choose them.
>FE:3H
Anon, FE has had that style of the support system since the fourth game. And even without that, there have been cast members that have wives/gfs since the first game.
People complain fairly often about the lack of paired endings in Engage, so yeah. Even if you don't really care about romance it gives you the feeling of having some control over the epilogue.
Anon you don't think the pretty boy main villain won't also attract women? "I can fix him" is arguably more popular than the romance. Just look at Emet Selch.
Every medium, many of the heroic tales of legend, myths, great books, films, works of art have all involved lust, love and romance. It's one of the core defining aspects of life and it is accepted as a main motivation in every form of story telling or experience and yet, in video games, every single time there is an attempt for its rare inclusion, people like you have this bizarre dismissive reaction to it.
I understand from the sense that you could argue it is implemented poorly quite often, but if anything a large reason for that is because of its near complete absence from games in general. Especially in RPGs (not so much JRPGs) where choice in gameplay and decisions are paramount, why some people rage against having choices in how to make your hero fantasy have more depth with potential love/lust stories, I don't get. It's just another facet to tell/customise a story and increase emotional investment or use as narrative device.
I think you're misunderstanding his argument: it's not romance = bad. It's this weird notion that a JRPG should be automatically dismissed if it doesn't have these piss-poor handholding "dates" where two anime characters hug or hold hands or whatever. This should not be the peak, the best experience in the game, but a lot of people are treating it as if that's what it's all been for and without it there's no point in playing.

guy pointed out, I chose the wrong person to quote I just wanted to vent. It was a more a general point that bothers me whenever this situation arises. Like I said, the implementation is almost always worthy of derisement, but if anything, it should be demanding better design rather than celebrating its removal. Even "soft dating sim mechanics" as you put it, is still at least another facet to player choice, it's better than nothing.
>The "virtual dating" aspect has become such a central part of JRPGs
since when? persona 5? plenty of jrpgs released the year after still had no romance you casual moron
>Romance a girl in Persona >Never interact with them ever again because I need to max my other S.Links >The only time the romance is ever brought up again is in the post-game valentine's event
Romances in Persona games fricking suck. I hope they remake that aspect in P6 or make a canon romance that's actually impactful
Persona has a problem where everyone's relationship revolves around the protagonist. Persona 3 had a little bit between Junpei having his own love interest and the Yukari/Mitsuru dynamic, but it's been downhill since. I doubt they'll change since people buy it up.
>Persona has a problem where everyone's relationship revolves around the protagonist.
That's a good thing actually. I am literally MChad and everything should resolve around me in an ideal world.
It’s the same idea as Ryuji’s insta-kill, so I get what they’re going for. But in a way I feel like the repetition is part of the genre. You do a lot of the same battles over and over. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I think they will compensate by having more enemies overall, leading to the same number of battles with out of combat kills mixed in. Areas look more packed with enemies than Persona 5.
I'm kinda worried about the dungeons, they haven't shown much interesting level design so far, just a bunch of combat corridors. Also not sure if the game uses Once More, I hope not since it gets old after a while.
I noticed how the field combat and movement looks stiffer than the field movement in Persona 3 Reload. Not to mention how dated the graphics and animations look with it being made in the P5 engine.
Am I the only one who enjoys romance in games without self inserting?
I would rather be me and be alone than be a nipponese teenager fighting monsters and shit, but also Chie deserves to have a boyfriend.
I rarely self-insert unless the game absolutely begs for it. And when there are romances I self-insert even less. I always see it as character A is now in love with character B.
I am not in love with character B and to think otherwise comes across as mental illness IMO.
>I am not in love with character B and to think otherwise comes across as mental illness IMO.
Most people on Ganker are dangerously unsocialized to the point where they consider video game characters friends and lovers. Some video games, like

>comes across as mental illness
It IS mental illness, but it's a mental illness that doesn't really have any damaging effects on society or the population at large so it's not really a problem. It would turn into a problem if these people came into schools and started telling children that it was okay to fall in love with 2D non-existing people.
Luckily the people that have this illness are ruinously weak socially so that won't happen.
Because usually the re-release either isn't worth it or it adds dumb bullshit that makes the experience worse. For example I hated the OC mary sue they added in Strange Journey Redux, changed the tone completely.
SMT Nocturne and now maybe SMTV are the rare exceptions because they're such overwhelming upgrades rather than feeling obligatory.
I guess if Metaphor ends up being super flawed then I could consider waiting, but if it feels complete as-is I don't care about a re-release.
Controversial opinion:
Persona 5 Royal's new final boss ruined the moment of victory achieved by overcoming Yaldabaoth. The percentage you'd stared at in every loading screen rising to 100% and the people you'd fought to protect cheering you on as the music roared was somewhat spoiled by the fact that this isn't actually the last boss anymore.

This is the right opinion.
Maruki was a good addition, but it would have worked better as the boss before the boss to sweeten the deal of working for Yaldy.
If the PS5 failed Final Fantasy I doubt it will suddenly carry this. Xbox is a wild card but I hardly see it carrying there either.
Not to mention this game will crash and burn in Japan for several reasons so they can’t even have the 100k they might get from there.
Switch is weak as frick, even P5 struggles on it.
Probably waiting for Switch 2 before bothering to port.
PC has done VERY well for Atlus on the other hand.
It's on the P5 engine so it more than likely can handle it, but the actual Nintendo port will be for Switch 2 which was confirmed by Midori (and it doesn't take a bran surgeon to figure this out).
Seems to be somewhat superior to the P5 engine, and switch struggled with that already.
However, real time action battles would buttfrick current Switch fps.
If Nintendo gets this on S2 its probably going to be the inevitable rerelease.
God, I hate Atlus and its rereleases. Drop a complete game you gays.
Atlus always releases complete games the first time (except SMT V). The content added in rereleases isn't necessary to enjoy the story. P4G is infamous for adding exclusively filler and a character that ruined the pacing of the original story.
> The content added in rereleases isn't necessary to enjoy the story.
No, but it definitively adds and I like getting more, yknow.
They've been releasing incomplete games for a while now. Strange Redux, Eternal Punishment, P3 overall... I'm just tired.
Also I will go to bat and say I dont hate Marie. She's cringey but acceptable. Normal teen tier of cringe.
Her dungeon is ABSOLUTE ASS, though.
Okay, so I've watched the presentation. And I must say something that many people before me have probably already said already, but... it's literally Persona. So much for the dev team saying they wanted to make something new. Maybe they did want to do it at some point, but it was scrapped, and they decided to fall back on doing what they know how to do. Or maybe it was meant to be medieval Persona from the start. Either way, they didn't really do anything new with this game at all.
The Japanese at this point are just a waste of good talent. I'm on board the experience they bring to the table with their games, but they waste it on homosexualry topics.
Why cant they use that style of art and just use subject matter that has some aesthetics, why does it have to always be animation that looks like it was made for toddlers. People don't want AI to come, but I can't wait, finally we'll be able to things the right way using their art style the way we want.
Studio Gibli is another example, great style of animation, but top to bottom homosexual shit (literally)
This is the kind of stuff they should be working on, instead its being wasted on stupid shit. Japanese never really matured as a people, they are stuck inside a childs brain. I don't think this will ever change.
Kek, for your sake I hope this is bait. Linkinpark, matrix edgelord stuck in 2001 calling anyone else immature is a lack of self awareness that is rare even among autists.
Sorry, it's pure cringe in 2024. It's a nerds idea of what is cool, like shadow the hedgehog or a fat frick dweeb wearing a fedora because he thinks it makes him look like a detective. It aged like milk while ghost in the shell remains cool. Anyway, continue evangelising AI with your rancid taste, it'll only help turn people against it's use.

An Animatrix Atlus game would be dope ngl, certainly better than what was presented here. It would actually be a perfect match but it would never happen.

The Animatrix is cool because it's nothing like the matrix. It's just anime but with simulation and robots as a theme. I don't know how you still hold up the matrix as anything but an edgy phase in the early 00s that divolved into complete troony bullshit. The only interesting elements in the matrix were stolen from anime in the first place, I'd much rather just have a gits game.
The irony is that this is where we were going. Look at DDS and Nocturne, dark was the course. Then Persona blew the frick up and now it's the center of their universe.
That's about to change, in like 10 to 15 years, you'll be able to get your favorite movie or game, put it through a program and get your own version of the game custom tailored to your liking, kind of like what I did here, took 5 seconds, but on a much larger scale.
No, you won't. I am literally an AI researcher (both on the software side, and electrical engineering side) for space applications. Just because it can cobble some images together and generate an image based on its trained set doesn't mean we're 10 years out from the holodeck. Moron.

Same with movies. If you don't want black actors, you shall have it, if you want a movie in a certain style, you shall have it.

>The ability to casually generate movies, shows and games is something that will be reserved for Hollywood conglomerates and the hyper-rich. Not some scrub on 4chins.
Hollywood is reluctant to embrace AI, but they'll need to adjust or face extinction. They believe AI is anti-human for the sake of their workforce. Artists and writers rely on Hollywood's reluctance to adopt AI, but ultimately, they'll have to embrace it or risk falling behind to rando studios making better content. Giants like Disney are vulnerable, AI threatens their entertainment monopoly. There will be renaissance in the near future where Hollywood's power will be a shell of its former self. If you visit Artstation, you will see tons of profiles with the AI crossed out avatar, this is cope.
I'm fine with it not having romance.
But I find the contrarians celebrating the absence of it kind of amusing. Because the game will almost certainly get some kind of definitive release alter on that introduces romance.
Eh, after listening to it for a while its growing on me.
Its not Take Over or Last Surprise, but its OK.
I cant expect Meguro to always deliver the hype.
I will die on the hill that this game would have benefitted from some Sound Horizon symphonic metal
So is there any other game that has Action RPG combat that can transition into Turn-based combat?
I can't think of any game off the top of my head, but it feels like a concept that should've already been done to death at this point.
>I still wonder why they're called Humans.
They've already said that our reality is the fantasy world of the people in the world of Metaphor.
So instead of Mythical Monsters you have Humans.
Instead of the Tale of the Magic Sword they have the Tale of the AK-47.
Instead of Knights and Dragons they have Navy SEALs and Airplanes.
Shit like that, and I'm sure there will be a twist about their world being parallel to the world of Persona or something like that.
>It's P5 >But the combat is different >Also the setting is different >Also the companion system is different >Also there's no romance >Also the music and tone is different >Also the overall progression structure is different >But it's still P5
At this point, I don't know what the frick you people were expecting this game to be. Did you think Hashino was going to make a fantasy first person shooter?

No, you just described what Press Turn was. Don't backpedal now.
The thing I liked about the Persona games is that even though 3-5 followed the same gameplay formula, the aesthetic and atmosphere of the games were vastly different. Metaphor to me feels way too much like a medieval P5 and it seems Hashino has gotten a bit lazy here.
Famitsu article mentioned there'll be 7 party members, she's one of them presumably? She's closer to the MC and the center of the boxart than the other party members are
All the party members will be different tribes/races, so it'll be >little bat dude >Strohl >Hulkenberg >5head blonde with glowy eyes/hair >3 eyed girl >pink fox girl >The guy in the black suit? Or the old guy in military uniform?
Surely the little angel girl won't be a party member, but I don't know what tribes that suit guy and the military guy are from. The pilot of the vehicle is also from the angel tribe, but I don't think he'll be a combat party member
I don't know how anyone can be excited for Atlus games anymore after Atlus bent the knee and removed the troony beach scene from all versions of Persona 3 Reload
I am so fricking sick and tired of Atlus constantly creating androgynous looking homos as MCs, both mainline, spinoffs and new IPs.
How many fricking flaming homosexuals are there around in the lead offices?
It wouldn't even be too bad if they'd at least go the full mile and make the MCs proper female, but this trend of males forcefed a long diet of estrogen has to fricking stop
This looks AI generated
That's called "promotional art".
That's just Soejima. His water color, smudged artstyle looks like that
Cry me a river
It looks worse than AI imo.

Atlus always releases complete games the first time (except SMT V). The content added in rereleases isn't necessary to enjoy the story. P4G is infamous for adding exclusively filler and a character that ruined the pacing of the original story.
Not to mention that the re-releases always kill the difficulty balancing of the original release
Her dungeon is ABSOLUTE ASS, though.
>atlus really doewn't want me to pirate this huh?
ftfy
Gonna watch the walkthrough in yt as usual.
Haha yeah, the gameplay, me too, 100% the gameplay, not a thing at all for pixies and girls/boys who cover one of their eyes with their bangs
Cope & rope troon.
The game looks like a solid 6/10
Well the gameplay looks fire but I'll play mainly for the kino plot
This might be the first game in 10 years I buy on launch for full price. Part of me wants to wait for a sale when it's had a few patches already.
Me as well. But I would have been more keen if there was a gameplay mechanic to marry the fairy.
but the gameplay looks shit
>t. zoomer
don't worry anon, there's still fortnite and cowadoody you can play
What looks fun? The "action" part is cringe.
The character designs are atrocious. main character and the bat are especially bad.
I like them, much better than SMT 5 and persona 5
I didn't watch the stream that closely, how does the battle system look?
Is it gonna be something similar to press turn?
You stop that
>That crowd
What a bawd
Okay, so I've watched the presentation. And I must say something that many people before me have probably already said already, but... it's literally Persona. So much for the dev team saying they wanted to make something new. Maybe they did want to do it at some point, but it was scrapped, and they decided to fall back on doing what they know how to do. Or maybe it was meant to be medieval Persona from the start. Either way, they didn't really do anything new with this game at all.
Forgot to add: Gallica is very cute.
>ywn have a fairy onahole
why even live, sincerely
The Japanese at this point are just a waste of good talent. I'm on board the experience they bring to the table with their games, but they waste it on homosexualry topics.
Why cant they use that style of art and just use subject matter that has some aesthetics, why does it have to always be animation that looks like it was made for toddlers. People don't want AI to come, but I can't wait, finally we'll be able to things the right way using their art style the way we want.
Studio Gibli is another example, great style of animation, but top to bottom homosexual shit (literally)
Subhuman parasitic shit eater. Complete cancer.
Still better than this pipsqueak trash. This shit looks like it belongs inside a kids bedroom haha.
matrix aesthetics is still pretty badass ngl
>An Animatrix Atlus game
I'd play that.
Matrix was conceived in the mid 90s and came out in 1999, just saying.
Moron.
>doesn't mean we're 10 years out from the holodeck
Then can you hurry the frick up anon, I don't have much time left.
You said holodeck not me, that's a straw man. I said movies and games. Nvidia ceo already said they will be moving away from rendering graphics and moving on to fully AI-generated games. Same with movies. If you don't want black actors, you shall have it, if you want a movie in a certain style, you shall have it.
>I study AI
how cute, clearly you're behind the curve lol. Let me guess, you know better.
>you
NTA, but what on God's green Earth is it that makes you think (You) will have access to these tools?
The ability to casually generate movies, shows and games is something that will be reserved for Hollywood conglomerates and the hyper-rich. Not some scrub on 4chins.
If you visit Artstation, you will see tons of profiles with the AI crossed out avatar, this is cope.
holy shit, talk about pretentious
I'm fine with it not having romance.
But I find the contrarians celebrating the absence of it kind of amusing. Because the game will almost certainly get some kind of definitive release alter on that introduces romance.
>The theme of the game is how real fantasy can be depending of your beliefs
Are we getting a second Marche protag?
Why is the protag such a sissy femboy?
Perfect isn't?
As all whites will.
I'm black though
Not anymore, your soul has been cleaned
Game looks like vomit
I'm going to play because I like Stohl 🙂
What is this genre called?
>"we told Shoji Meguro to challenge himself and make a sound he's never tried before"
>just makes Strange Journey OST again but in HD
lmao
They never told him to do a soundtrack he never tried before you lying pajeet, they challenged him to step outside his comfort zone.
Mimicking a soundtrack he's already done is not stepping outside his comfort zone then, genius.
Doing another type of soundtrack that he's only done once is stepping outside his comfort zone you absolute mongoloid
Strange Journey type beat (not a good thing btw)
I'm trans btw not sure if that matters.
Who leaked this?
"Leaked"
Yeah I couldn't find where it originated from which is weird. Shouldn't it just be uploaded by atlus?
Well Midori is 99% an Atlus employee so I guess she counts
Meguro can't make good music anymore. It's even worse than SJ and P5.
Ok Larry
I don't care about worst P4 girl.
Eh, after listening to it for a while its growing on me.
Its not Take Over or Last Surprise, but its OK.
I cant expect Meguro to always deliver the hype.
I will die on the hill that this game would have benefitted from some Sound Horizon symphonic metal
Bro it's pure unfiltered kino
So is there any other game that has Action RPG combat that can transition into Turn-based combat?
I can't think of any game off the top of my head, but it feels like a concept that should've already been done to death at this point.
Literally unironically Kuro no Kiseki/Trails through Daybreak. Atlus aped the concept from Falcom
neat
I hope more JRPGs start using this system, because it looks pretty cool imo.
Birb
I still wonder why they're called Humans. Obviously its building up to a twist involving meta storytelling but what??
>I still wonder why they're called Humans.
They've already said that our reality is the fantasy world of the people in the world of Metaphor.
So instead of Mythical Monsters you have Humans.
Instead of the Tale of the Magic Sword they have the Tale of the AK-47.
Instead of Knights and Dragons they have Navy SEALs and Airplanes.
Shit like that, and I'm sure there will be a twist about their world being parallel to the world of Persona or something like that.
All things considered I'm surprised that guy's art hasn't been turned into video game enemies already before this game
The "Humans" design and overall aesthetic of Metaphor seems to take heavy inspiration from Soul Sacrifice
>Persona 5: Isekai Edition
P5 has completely and utterly killed Atlus. So much for Hashino making a "brand new game".
>It's P5
>But the combat is different
>Also the setting is different
>Also the companion system is different
>Also there's no romance
>Also the music and tone is different
>Also the overall progression structure is different
>But it's still P5
At this point, I don't know what the frick you people were expecting this game to be. Did you think Hashino was going to make a fantasy first person shooter?
Stop you're not allowed to have a brain on Ganker
Time management is also different. It's apparently only spent while traveling.
>It's P5
With the same exact aesthetic and UI and menus and social simulation elements.
>But the combat is different
It still uses the same exact dogshit One More/Press Turn system.
So you dont even know how the combat works, huh.
You're actually going to pretend the game isn't going to be about weakness spamming and the same exact statistical buffs like every Hashino game.
Oh spare me. A JRPG with elemental weakness is a universal system.
Good RPGs don't pigeonholed you into doing basic actions and getting rewards for them.
As opposed to spamming the strongest spell/ability you've got in order to one-turn every fight?
Yeah no lmfao Atlus actually has their shit together. JRPGs aren't ever challenging but Atlus has a system figured out.
>spamming the strongest spell/ability you've got in order to one-turn every fight?
You just described Hashino's shitty games.
I just described Final Fantasy Black person. Go back Larry.
No, you just described what Press Turn was. Don't backpedal now.
Larry, go back to your cult general.
The thing I liked about the Persona games is that even though 3-5 followed the same gameplay formula, the aesthetic and atmosphere of the games were vastly different. Metaphor to me feels way too much like a medieval P5 and it seems Hashino has gotten a bit lazy here.
i am going to jack off to the fairy dicky
She's proportioned like a miniature adult anon...
>"It's Persona 5 but without the heart. 8/10." - IGN
Damn, how do we come back from this, Metafriends...
It looks like visual vomit and I didn't even enjoy Persona 5 that much but I'm interested in this for some reason, no idea why
>atlus
>gameplay
EO games have gameplay. Not MegaTen though.
Is the protagonist secretly human?
>on his way to become king
>secretly human
Irumakino
Made for Door-kun twink son
Canon romance btw
I love those eyes
Famitsu article mentioned there'll be 7 party members, she's one of them presumably? She's closer to the MC and the center of the boxart than the other party members are
Yeah she is
Any chance Nevras be a party member?
the Griffith dude? Maybe he'll rape your girlfriend
No, Nevras is the pilot for your evangelion mobile base.
seems like he'll just be a supporting character, he's not even on the cover
All the party members will be different tribes/races, so it'll be
>little bat dude
>Strohl
>Hulkenberg
>5head blonde with glowy eyes/hair
>3 eyed girl
>pink fox girl
>The guy in the black suit? Or the old guy in military uniform?
Surely the little angel girl won't be a party member, but I don't know what tribes that suit guy and the military guy are from. The pilot of the vehicle is also from the angel tribe, but I don't think he'll be a combat party member
I’m glad Azusa Shimada is taking over the Persona art. Soejima just keeps getting worse.
>t. homosexual Sexual
I'll wait for the complete edition to consider buying it
>Persona but it's not set in a high school
I'm in
The bat people put me off the game completely. Hideous.
I would unironically be more interested in SMT5 if the protag was a girl.
The character designs are so shit. Bootleg Persona MCs.
