The conversation of whether Yasuke was a "samurai" or not is just a grand smokescreen and strawman for the actual issue at hand. Whether he was or wasn't doesn't change anything, it's that he is simultaneously being advertised as a huge legendary impactful figure and a complete unknown with great original story potential and these are both supposed to be the reasons why he's a good MC choice. Not only are both of these directly opposed but they clash with how the games have been designed till now. It's the exact same problem with how the games are committed to historical accuracy (learn the story of this real life figure!) until they're not, based entirely on what they want to do or push at that given moment.

Not a fan of how they've turned the game into a sort of RPG, however with shadows it seems like they've split the "traditional-assassins" gameplay and the "nouveau fighting-game" gameplay into two characters which might be interesting. Gameplay even though it's WIP still looks pretty rough.

Let's face it, the real reason why they use him is because they genuinely thought a western audience needs an "outside perspective" on Japan, and him being black has the additional bonus of stirring a shitshow, which is something Ubisoft is always extremely keen to exploit. They needed a historical, non-japanese figure (because justifying making up a non-japanese fictional character would attract even more ire, this time from the much more relevant liberal side of the moron pool), making they basically had to chose between Yasuke or William Adams. Adams has been done, so that really leaves only one option left.
Plus, again, Ubisoft can literally rely on people like this
to not only create a massive medial bubble around the thing, but also create an escape route in case of this gamble not paying off, they can always blame racist for the game's potential commercial failure.

There is also no documents that explicitly state that he was NOT made into a samurai, but given how that stuff is pretty much always noted with other historical figures who it happened to, I think it's safe to say that Yasuke did not become one.

Samurai doesn't have to be a lord. At the point we're talking about it's not even a defined stratum yet because the country in question is effectively in the middle of a civil war that eventually results in grave changes to the society and its structure.

To add to your point, Samurai wasn't even explicitly a title appointed for military service. William Adams was one as a banner guardian. Henry Schnell became one through service as a weapons merchant. Kawaminami Genbei was made samurai as a translator.
Samurai was just a catch all term for anyone that a lord provides land, money, and a right to bear arms. There's no rigid structure to it unlike the european medieval political structures.

Yasuke fought till the end it Nijō Shin-gosho protecting Nobutada, not at Honnoji. This is where Akechi captured him and where they put him on trial.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag was the game that showed where the series was going.
It's just a historical fiction game that will never resolve the actual story. They can milk it forever. There are plenty of settings to make a game set in. Black Flag was an epilogue for that era of games. Interestingly enough it coincided with the change in the gaming industry. The whole game feels like an epilogue.
