I built a PC.
Took 11 hours
At least now I can play some 3D games.
It didn't boot up after I wired and screwed everything and almost wanted to suicide, rage shutdown/restart fixed it.

nevermind
I restarted and now it won't boot
Probably just a loose plug. Make sure they click in.
Is it beeping? Does it just do nothing?
keyboard lights up, mouse lights up, everything inside the case is normal. the monitor isn't detecting the hdmi or something
it's plugged into the graphics card
if the mobo has onboard graphics, try plugging the monitor into it.
your graphics card might not be installed correctly.
99% of the time "things light up but nothing is on the screen" does not mean it's an HDMI/monitor/GPU problem but your PC is not posting. It did not boot.
Many such cases, very typical of first time builds.
You haven't plugged something correctly or something is dead/defective
Anon. Look at my first post. I already booted and even posted on here. it's just something fricky with the monitor(lg 1080p 60hz) and gpu combo (rtx 3060)
The monitor is taking too long to detect the gpu and I cant seem to see any BIOS screen either
Did you set your RAM to run at XMP speeds?
Try reverting back to stock (JEDEC) speeds
Unplug everything from the mobo. Plug it back in. That is usually the issue.
nice try moron. how would you be posting?
I'm literally posting from my phone
your mobo should have some debug lights on it.
although it sounds like you didnt plug in the gpu correctly. I would also start with only 1 piece of RAM and swap em out on failure. It is quite common to get a falty one these days.
Godspeed.
He admits it!!
Goddamn phoneposter
Anyway good luck and remember the power cable for the graphics card.
Let me guess. AMD CPU.
why are they such a b***h?
had a x570 +3700x for a friend that booted once then gave vga error, but somehow worked fine with amd cards.
my x470 +5800x displayed RTX 3080 @16x pcie3 line but never showed bios until i updated bios (despite the previous one being compatible on asus page)
i dunno but every moron i know with troubleshooting issues on amd is because on dual ccx zen 2 and x570
>i updated bios.
if you are OP you might want to watch this
if u brick a bios is it only a motherboard replacement?
I don't get it. How is mobo bios related to gpu bios? And what the frick is display id?
the mobo bios used to deal with the display id handoff or something and because the mobo bios was so old, updating it gave the gpu the task of handling the display id as that is what newer bios do, so he needed to update all that to fix it. if you watch, the 3080ti worked in the testbench which had a compatible mobo bios with the gpu bios. thats how i understood it anyway.
i have heard that you can recover them with a flashback or something similar however I have never personally had it happen so I do not know for sure.
Congrats anon, what are your specs?
when I made mine I was literally sweating bullets because I kept thinking static electricity would fry everything
>kept thinking static electricity would fry everything
I've built my own and three of my mates their PC's six years ago, recently I decided to upgrade my cpu which costed me 520$ and I think static just killed my new cpu also somehow managed to kill one of my ram sticks too, first time dealing with static what a bummer.
I upgraded my motherboard's bios and all so I think it's a static issue.
>upgraded
Updated*
I hit my pc with static once, the only consequence was reset of BIOS, maybe I was lucky.
static doesnt affect it. linus and jayz two cents have done videos on it. literally zapping components that still worked afterwards.
Why did it take you so long? I never did it myself but in theory it's a way less-time consuming thing.
NTA but my first PC took me a day and a half to build because I started at night on a Monday.
2 days anon but I checked everything on youtube literally every step and was drinking vodka constantly
Despite what Ganker would make you believe building a PC is not as easy as everyone pretends it to be. Especially the wiring part. Even worse if you cheap out on the case and shit don't fit correctly even though it's supposed to.
It's just not even about difficulty, I mean what can you do for 11 hours with a single pc?
everyone struggles to get it right the first time. after a couple of times you can do it blind with your hands tied behind your asscheeks to your ballsack
unfortunately I didnt have issue with building it and booting. just that i adhered to what microsoft said and linked my windows to a microsoft account to be able to use the same windows on a new mobo but it locked me out. changed the mobo back over, swapped to local account and logged in first time.
>building it
building mine*
i didnt really mean struggling but usually just build it together pretty easily but messed up 1 little thing or forgot about it and spend the entire day figuring out what you did wrong.
>took 11hours
>legit took me 2 hours my first try
what the frick are you smoking while making your pc, it must be wuite good.
i have the same cooler, very nice but it ended being a bit overkill.
>mfw my friend build his first pc and he build everything right but kept plugging his monitor into his motherboard instead of the graphics card
I am that guy. Why are there hdmi sockets on the motherboard anyway?
Op you mostly likely don't have a cable in correctly (24 pin cable or ram maybe), also did you follow the manual for which cable in your case goes on the motherboard.
>I am that guy. Why are there hdmi sockets on the motherboard anyway?
because of integrated graphics. some people dont have a videocard installed.
>unplug hdmi from monitor
>plug it into mobo hdmi
>nothing happens
>shut down and restart
>still nothing
>switch hdmi cable from mobo to gpu again
>monitor detects it.
I dont get it
read the debug leds on your board when you boot up. if its always going to normal boot (depends on the board most will do a green light or something but if you have a debug led that outputs error codes all the better) and the display isn't doing anything it could just be a loose or bad hdmi cable. try another one if you can.
they do but a lot of times you don't even get the tiny speaker thing to plug into the mobo header
only the boot led is on, and that LED is always on regardless. same as my old PC. I have noticed that things are slow to power off/on when pressing shut down/restart.
deactivate motherboard gpu you moron
Are we posting? Newer mobos still beep right?
I can never get this "glass window" zoomer thing
Why would you need to look inside the computer?
To expose LED shit inside
because computer parts are cool looking. it's like having a translucent gameboy
I do it so I can see how dusty the inside is without removing the case
Beats me, my PC's under my desk. The only RGB component I have is the RAM.
that isnt a zoomer thing. thats been a thing for awhile moron. not every thing is zoomer.
i got one just like that. I got the case because I liked the size and features, there was no option without the glass. I now keep it with the glass part of the case next to a wall, too.
i just got an M2 ssd and want to just drag and drop my current windows + files into that one, but it seems to not show up in the boot window. I made it a recovery drive too
>and want to just drag and drop my current windows + files into that one
my autism will never abide this, i will never trust windows that much. new drive i clean install every time. bright side is drives are so fricking sanic fast these days you can go from blank drive to desktop ready in 5 minutes.
You need to clone the drive, copy and paste isn't sufficient.
You need the hidden UEFI boot partition and whatever additional partitions your Windows volume has made irrevocable associations to, this could even be a secondary drive that was in the system when you first installed Windows.
clone the relevant partition then update the windows manager by booting into a windows install iso and picking repair computer>advanced>troubleshoot>startup repair
for the partition cloning I'd suggest using gparted live, most morons should be able to use it without too much problems
>didn't boot up
>shutdown/restart fixed
Fried PSU coming right up
So did you figure it out?
What are your specs it may have to do with the CPU or perhaps your psu is underpowered
It would start and immediately turn off in this case.
you are frickin moronic
not vidya not your tech support board
go back
lol digits just like your OS muahaha. you should start again mate. take it all out, all the cables etc. not like you can plug things into the wrong holes. unless you have your boot drive in a sata port that is disabled when running m.2? one of my sata ports is disabled so i have to use 2-6 and not 1. wish I was there, i'd have it fixed in no time.
>Took 11 hours
How did you manage that? My first PC build took just over three and since then I've shaved them down to just over two.
>PC Master Race
I had a similar issue with my build when I didn't have a dedicated GPU.
11700k would turn off Igpu before monitor checks HDMI as for some moronic reason a modern monitor has a VGA first then HDMI. My fix for the time was when booting the pc simultaneously just click monitor power button. Then it would work.
I got the same gay case but in white recently. I'm building my first new PC in about 10 years, I don't play PC games because PC has no games, I made sure to tape over the RGB light spreader on my RTX3050, I think it looks like a pride parade when it's visible. I may also need to tape over the RAM, the memories I have of homosexuals ruining things are enough, I do not need them in my PC. Unfortunately it seems cases without windows are more expensive than those with it. My crimes will be visible to everyone. All of this work just so I can record higher quality Sega Saturn footage.
That's cool, I just buy a PC when its time for an upgrade lol
>11 hours to build a PC
Computers have become like cats, too much useless shit tacked on that can frick up.
Back in my day you had simple POST codes that you could easily diagnose any boot problems with, now it could be a plethora of useless shit not causing it to boot properly and you get no indication as to what it is.
Manually setting IRQ's was easier than this modern locked down bullshit.
11 hours? Even for a newcomer it should take maybe 4-5 hours max.
>be gigachad
>change the $1000 CPU when the PC is on
>see lines going through the display
>restart pc
>still works
You have to be actually braindead to frick it up nowadays.
The PC parts are now braindeadproof
unless it's software related. hardware is absolutely foolproof. i remember being so nervous swapping my 2060 for a 3060ti i was sweating like frick. since then i have changed out parts loads to change paste etc i dont sweat anymore lol.
I've built and reassembled my PC quite a bit and everytime there's some frick up it's either because I didn't push my RAM in firmly enough or the cord from the power supply to the motherboard wasn't pushed in enough.
>Took 11 hours
how the frick
I upgraded my mobo and CPU a year ago. Crashed a few minutes after Windows loaded every time. Turns out you can't just use an old Windows 10 disc laying around and need an up to date install. Hasn't crashed in a year.
My question is since Ryzen 5600x doesn't work on even an old W10 install, is there really no one with that CPU running W7 or W8? Just surprising to me that the CPU is just completely incompatibly with older software. If it's that picky about even outdated W10, does it even run Linux well?
pc gaming is vastly overrated, build mine two weeks ago its fine but you have to somehow troubleshoot/mod/fix nearly every game/ application there is out there. Tried to play bf3 , mouse is fricky...Oh dude just go into EA App and disable xyz or go into your config ... did that .. then keep getting kicked out of games ... oh dude just go to the punkbuster side modify these settings in your json download this watch this 30min youtube video... when I was console it simply was 1 Put disc in 2 play game
>noooo why is this hostile shovelware requiring fixes
Works on my machine.
>build brand new PC
>decide to play BF3
>have to take a few extra steps to play it
>own PS4 or PS5
>can't play BF3 at all
>have to buy a PS3 to play it
I can play it on xbox without a problem dunno where you come from with that ps4
>tfw have had to frick with 0 (zero) games
>tfw shit just works
feels good
This has happened to me many times when I was a teenager. The first time it was because something wasn't correctly seated, like the RAM wasn't pushed in enough or the GPUs power cable wasn't fully connected. Just try making sure all the cables and components are 100% properly pushed in. Don't push them too hard obviously but be prepared to use enough force that you'll start shaking from fear that you're going to break something. It could also be that the CPU is not compatible with the motherboards BIOS. This happened to me when I bought a brand new AMD CPU and no motherboards were compatible. I had to order a cheap old AMD from CPU, flash the motherboards BIOS to the latest version, then return the old CPU to Amazon (guilt free). Don't panic, the chance that one of your components is broken is seriously low that it's not worth thinking about, especially if it's kinda turning on
I meant to say I bought a cheap old AMD cpu from Amazon, used it to flash motherboard, return the old CPU to Amazon for free, then installed the newer cpu
It sounds similar to a problem I had before.
Try resetting CMOS by removing the battery from the mobo and then putting it back in.
If you can boot into Windows after that then disable Windows fast startup.
I recently built an ultra low budget email rig for my parent with used parts and had a fun learning experience-
If you buy a used CPU make sure it can run on the bios of the mobo you bought. I bought one that was a little too new and it wouldn't boot which had me scratching my head for a bit.
