So after defeating the 13th lord of chaos, Drakath you are the eternal dragon of time the god of aq but sundered. After that you become super OP and have to deal with literal gods/god-like tasks story wise (I.e. your Angra mainyu) and its continuing from there. The writing is pretty good for a flash game, actually.

AQW filled that perfect niche of an online MMO back then, even if only 5% of people opened their wallets you still had over 20,000 concurrent players back then, no surprise it was very successful.
If they released AQW today, it would flop in a year. AQ3D is a good example of what happens when they release a game that's not carried by nostalgia.

I got a free class for the I Can Haz Cheezeburger contest that’s basically a farming class with a sick dire wolf pet designed by Dage, I still use it even though it’s underpowered as frick lol, it’s just sick to have a wolf that spits out blue electricity.
Like the other two anons said, you do get free shit, but you get even better free shit if you've got an older account. If your account is 10 years old, you get a free pirate class, and a free Shadowscythe house where you get to live with Gravelyn.
I'm so happy I got to play this in its heyday. I even had a Guardian membership. Fighting bros in the arena. Going on quests to fight vampires. Becoming a werewolf. Wielding the pszcho sabre. Going to that city in the sky. Great memories.

You can still (sorta) get it. It got rereleased as The Collector class with same stats and abilities. I remember it introduced the concept of 5 skill nukes into the game and remember it totally fricking over PVP players.
I can't get into any of their games except for the original AQ. I come back every so often and re-build my character and hunt for gear. It's a pretty good time. Not a fan of how much P2W shit there is in the game, though. Thankfully they aren't necessary.

Lord of Order and Dragon of Time require a little botting and have really fun/varied quests. Legion Revenant and Void Highlord are fricking aids and I have no clue why AE thought making the player grind tens of thousands of mobs and a weekly (no, not dailies. WEEKLIES) event was even remotely a good idea.
I tried very briefly (with bots) and gave up day 2. Total asinine quest design and shit that's like >merge 50 of X into 1 of Y >need 100 Y to merge into 1 of Z >need 50 Z to make 1 O >need 100 O for the final quest and another 100 for all other merges
Blade of Awe is a fun grind though.
My biggest feat was farming the entire armor of awe set using bots of course. It follows a similar formula you described but the issue is most of the bosses you need to farm are designed to be fought with a team and they quickly out damage you. I had to get 5 other accounts to level 60(the max at the time) with two of them archpaladins three of them horc evaders and one healer. It took me around a month to set up and complete.

There's a "friendship" meter thing that has characters give you free shit. A few of them even have in-character responses thst are pretty nice. Gravelyn is one of them, and I haven't checked if they added in more after the leaders of the evil faction. Kathool would be funny.
They are making a “sequel” in a form of a unity remake+mobile port. I suspect it’s just a new coat of paint however since all your items can be transfered over. They were too afraid of whales losing their shit by resetting the game.

Adventure Quest is a confusing mess from start to finish and the story is really not that good, but the gameplay is fun enough.
Mech Quest... Man I honestly don't even know what happened to Mech Quest. Shit practically ends right after doing the college shit and it's largely locked behind MTX and membership.
Dragonfable is very much playable and like the other anon said, you really can't do a whole lot without the membership. It's still easily the best out of all the games and developed as an Adventure Quest pre/sequel in mind.
Epicduel (yeah, somebody actually remembers Epicduel) is largely dead and has been for years. Weird as frick art style and PVP heavy cemented this as trash. I only remember it because I met a mod on there once who answered some of my AQWorlds questions.

AQWorlds is only good if you've been playing it for the last 10 years or willing to spend around $40 to not be BTFO'd by all the MTX shit (because 90% of cosmetics are microtransactions). I honestly still think it's reasonably fun and of course there's 15 years of weekly content right off the bat so you're getting hundreds of hours of gameplay for free. Just don't bother after the Chaos saga and make sure to get seasonal classes since they're free (for a little grind) and significantly stronger than whatever shit class you most likely started with.
AQ3D is hated by everyone, even the devs. Artix bled several million to make it and reiterated the gameplay and story SEVERAL times after it released so you just know it lacks scope. Like AQW it's heavy into MTX and still weirdly extremely grind heavy to such a point it's not even fun. Gets a 1/10 in my books only because you can play it on mobile and because the idea of Death getting his key to the underworld stolen (which is why you respawn) is a kinda cool story idea.
The other unmentioned mobile games are trash, don't even bother with them.

It doesn't really download the games per say, it just downloads whatever data you need at that given point in time. I'd say check out every game, just give each like 10-30 minutes and see what you think then come to your own conclusion while keeping those criticisms in mind.

AQW filled that perfect niche of an online MMO back then, even if only 5% of people opened their wallets you still had over 20,000 concurrent players back then, no surprise it was very successful.

i remember my brother grinding this class saying it was the best. along with a class called vindicator of they. this must've been the early 2010s
Oh yeah, Vindicator of They was the one exclusive for the "They Might be Giants" event, definitely the rarest/strongest.
You had to do daily quests during all the event to get 90 tokens to redeem it (3 months grinding everyday if you weren't member).
You can still (sorta) get it. It got rereleased as The Collector class with same stats and abilities. I remember it introduced the concept of 5 skill nukes into the game and remember it totally fricking over PVP players.
i tried getting that class before i stopped playing. i probably have around 10 tokens

Is it worth playing the game nowadays?
Maybe if you like grinding. Has anyone here even unlocked any of the endgame classes and items without botting? How painful was it?
Lord of Order and Dragon of Time require a little botting and have really fun/varied quests. Legion Revenant and Void Highlord are fricking aids and I have no clue why AE thought making the player grind tens of thousands of mobs and a weekly (no, not dailies. WEEKLIES) event was even remotely a good idea.

I tried very briefly (with bots) and gave up day 2. Total asinine quest design and shit that's like

Blade of Awe is a fun grind though.
My biggest feat was farming the entire armor of awe set using bots of course. It follows a similar formula you described but the issue is most of the bosses you need to farm are designed to be fought with a team and they quickly out damage you. I had to get 5 other accounts to level 60(the max at the time) with two of them archpaladins three of them horc evaders and one healer. It took me around a month to set up and complete.

Adventure Quest is a confusing mess from start to finish and the story is really not that good, but the gameplay is fun enough.
Mech Quest... Man I honestly don't even know what happened to Mech Quest. Shit practically ends right after doing the college shit and it's largely locked behind MTX and membership.
Dragonfable is very much playable and like the other anon said, you really can't do a whole lot without the membership. It's still easily the best out of all the games and developed as an Adventure Quest pre/sequel in mind.
Epicduel (yeah, somebody actually remembers Epicduel) is largely dead and has been for years. Weird as frick art style and PVP heavy cemented this as trash. I only remember it because I met a mod on there once who answered some of my AQWorlds questions.

AQWorlds is only good if you've been playing it for the last 10 years or willing to spend around $40 to not be BTFO'd by all the MTX shit (because 90% of cosmetics are microtransactions). I honestly still think it's reasonably fun and of course there's 15 years of weekly content right off the bat so you're getting hundreds of hours of gameplay for free. Just don't bother after the Chaos saga and make sure to get seasonal classes since they're free (for a little grind) and significantly stronger than whatever shit class you most likely started with.
AQ3D is hated by everyone, even the devs. Artix bled several million to make it and reiterated the gameplay and story SEVERAL times after it released so you just know it lacks scope. Like AQW it's heavy into MTX and still weirdly extremely grind heavy to such a point it's not even fun. Gets a 1/10 in my books only because you can play it on mobile and because the idea of Death getting his key to the underworld stolen (which is why you respawn) is a kinda cool story idea.
The other unmentioned mobile games are trash, don't even bother with them.
So I downloaded the Artix Game launcher. My first thought was to just download all games and check them out individually but seeing as some games have a rather negative reputation, I'll steer clear of them? Or should I see for myself?
It doesn't really download the games per say, it just downloads whatever data you need at that given point in time. I'd say check out every game, just give each like 10-30 minutes and see what you think then come to your own conclusion while keeping those criticisms in mind.

Dragon Amulet is a must have for Dragonfable imo.
Play Dragonfable and see if you like it. If you don't, don't bother with the others (they're inferior to Dragonfable).
Also, I forgot to say, the Artix Launcher does this fricking annoying thing where it doesn't close when you press X, instead it just minimizes it like Steam so don't forget to force close it from the taskbar too.

AQC gives you the appropriate stat points into the main stat of your chosen first class during character creation
