There is no attempts to survive no matter what, no bargaining, no slow descent into desperation. The engine is running hot, she seeks out help, gets it, hears "your gonna die" and then the story stops. You get a little scene of her coming down from her post-suicidal euphoria after killing Gortash, a little scene of her accepting death and that's it. Even the the option to go to hell with her is a bad addition that goes against her story, a half-assed attempt to please the loud parts of the playerbase, which consistently turns out for the worse here.

Something happens and she is crazy supportive and it made me change my opinion of her, she has more appeal than I gave her credit for. I am going to have sex with this female Zariel Tiefling from Baldurs Gate. I find Karlach in Baldurs Gate 3 sexy. However, their body is made up of 87% fire, and 100% fire surrounds them. That could kill me if I tried to have sex with one. To remedy this, the Karlach casts a spell on me making me resistant to fire. Keep in mind, resistant is not the same as immune. I still take damage. It is either 1 point or 0 points of damage each second I am having sex with her. Just because a particular second caused 0 points of damage, does not mean that I did not feel anything, it just means I took no damage. I am not going to rush through having sex with this tiefling. I make sure I pleasure anything I have sex with—especially non-humans! I’d rather take damage than not pleasure karlach.
Karlach and I go to the Planes of Avernus to have sex. When having sex with non-humans, it is ALWAYS sexier to have sex in their natural habitat rather than a human’s natural habitat. The Planes of Avernus is Zariel tiefling natural habitat.
Before we went into the Planes of Avernus,Karlach let all the Devils know that we are just here for sex. The Devils will not attack us because they know that I am here at the Planes of Avernus on sexual business. This includes the archdevils. However, the succubus fiends think that I am going to be an easy recruit for becoming a follower of Zariel considering that I am having sex with Karlach. However, I have no interest in becoming a Devil.
I hate Karlach and kill her in every playthrough, since even good characters can justify it as being misled by the "paladins".

I can't say she doesn't fit in the universe, since there's plenty of shit with a similar tone in BG1 and 2, but she really feels like somebody's lame OC. She's the only companion in the game that feels like she got ripped straight out of some Redditor's personal game of DnD rather than being a natural part of the world in which she resides. They gave her a sick backstory that only exists to make her more appealing and doesn't really inform her character in anyway, and her connection to the main story is the most flaccid out of all characters with even Minthara/Orin feeling more developed.
