I do as well. Its a great title and deserves more support, but SEGA did absolutely the right thing releasing it on PC as they did - reasonably priced, all DLC, and not letting it languish in PS3 jail forgotten.
I've heard its horrible, but they never brought it to PC for some reason which even if it was shitty I'd pick it up for a few bucks and try it over being locked on PS4 or
I want another VC 1 and VC4.
I want one please please god damn I loved these games.
2 and 3 were utter dogshit, though. What the frick were they thinking
But in all likelyhood we'll never get another.
4 didn't sell nearly well enough to justify another entry in the series. It's a damn tragedy because it was literally the best we've got so far.
Me to. 4 is even better.
VC4 was great but was fricked over by the fricking 4 in the name. That was the stupidest thing they could have done. It literally takes place at the same time as VC1 but from a different perspective, so why they didn't call it "Valkyria Chronicles: On the Federation Front" or something like that, I'll have no fricking idea. A 4 means that many people will frick off and not play it especially given 2 and 3 are not available on any modern platform.
>2 and 3 Remake
If any games need actual remakes, its 2 and 3. Fix the mechanical problems, improve and expand the story, get away from all the "Sorry, its PSP" technical limitations . VC2 got a western release but you need to Undub it to make it worthwhile. VC3 had 2 versions with only Extra Edition being worth it and never got a release outside JP ; there is a fan translation but it lacks a lot of the written material/story stuff last I checked
>4 didn't sell enough, now Valkyria is done for
Frick this viewpoint after they made such a stupid naming decision about a niche title in the first place. SEGA can take a risk and get a solid Steam release, remake 2 and 3 in a modern engine and the series will be back.
>VC4 was great but was fricked over by the fricking 4 in the name
This is why they should make a Valkyria Chronicles 0, it worked for Yakuza
Think of the kino of having Selvaria's mother, young Varrot and Largo, Welkins dad etc
Given how Ganker always defends a franchise' worst games or even the franchise killers, how much time before this place starts pretending that Revolution is the best game in the series and an underrated masterpiece?
I want another VC 1 and VC4.

>combat system excels at small-to-medium scale urban combat >3/4 of the maps are grand scale clusterfricks >final boss is a raw stat check
I wish the game had modding tools. The actual game systems are pretty good, but it needs more maps that play to its strengths.
3 and 4 are great. What's shame about them? Please sega gibe new game! Then no one bought it and you will make shitty excuses. Fans of series are limited and I hope Sega never makes a new one.
I enjoyed it up to the first time I met that b***h with the spear and giant tank. that shit was pure cancer. especially getting my units to actually get the grenades in that damned battery port thing on top. most of the time it would find the smallest thing to bounce off of and do jack shit. hate hate hate
That's about where my momentum stopped too. No other level reached that same level of trial and error but it was there that I realized "hey this isn't a strategy game, it's a puzzle game".
Correct, and that was a surprising moment for me as well. The frustration comes from having an otherwise solid strategy, and seeing it all unravel because the game is expecting you to do something different.
I still enjoyed it, even though there were a couple of missions that were borderline AIDS. Snipers are OP at the beginning, and then you finally embrace the dark side and use the sweet, sweet scout rushes to sew chaos.
Oh shit, this made me remember one time during the fight with the giant tank. I remembered that I had Edelsweiss rear radiator parked against a boulder so he won't get easily shot down. Easy peasy, my units slowly shot down the giant tank's cannons (it's been a very long time since I played it, I forgot all the details). At one point the giant tank started spawning about 1 or 2 enemy lancers. Edelsweiss is parked with its radiator right against the boulder, and he's on the main base too so those pesky lancers couldn't capture the base anyway. But there's a very tiny gap between Edelsweiss rear and the boulder. Thinking no big deal, Edelsweiss will shoot down anyone that'll come close to him with his own MG so I'll just continue pushing with my units. It's very close to winning the battle but one lancer managed to get past Edelsweiss, aimed at the tiny gap between the boulder and the rear of the tank, and fricking one-shotted Edelsweiss. Holy frick I was so mad that it's only 1-2 turns to finish that battle I just up and quitted that game. I dont really feel like continue finishing it after that because I feel like it's already at the end of the game, and I already know the ending so eh...
I FRICKING BEAT THE TANK!!!!
to those who told me to use the ladders, kys. to those who were stopped there know that you can't let this one stage defeat you. also to these guys

Just something funny I want to share lmao.
In the Principality of Gallia, Graduate Welkin Gunther, son of war hero Belgen, returns home to his home city of Bruhl only to be arrested by local girl Alicia+town Militia for being "suspicious" (he was entertaining his nature autism). From Alicia, Welkin learns that neighboring superpower, The East Europan Imperial Alliance, otherwise known as the Eastern Imperial Empire, the ethnic motherstate of Gallia (his father participated in the war of independence), has invaded and has bypassed the main defenses at Ghirlandiao Fortress. As advance elements of the imperials arrive, Welkin joins his neighbors and fights them off before pivoting towards the city only to find the imperials are well under way of capturing it. Welkin and his friends manage to make it to where the main local force is holding out, but Welkin remembers something important. He runs home to find his adoptive Darcsen (a beleaguered minority in the setting) sister, Isara, being harassed by trespassing imperial soldiers. His surprise entry allows the two to beat them and Isara points to a helpful asset: their father's garage tank. Being that their dad's dead and they don't need his permission, the two ride out to fight the imperials in the city. They help move their water broken neighbor by letting her in the tank. They fail to stop the imperials from capturing the city, but they do secure a retreat towards the capital. A fricking baby is born in the tank. From the capital, survivors are reorganized into proper state militia units; Welkin leads squad 7, his friend Faldio leads squad 6. The baddies have a meeting where they're introduced. Old guy is a racist autist blue blood old stubborn military type. Selvaria is Selvaria; play the dlc for more info and more about her is learned later. Jaeger is tank guy - follow his bio+play for more. Afterward, the militia repels overextended imperials in the south. Imperials have a moment where they recover bodies of their comrades

I enjoyed reading those thank you. I want to thank my parents for raising me poorly enough to lead me here and lastly I wanted to thank whoever is reading this. you've all been great.
No you didnt, you were too distracted by cute waifus shooting guns to notice how terrible everything else was. Almost every map is a order buff cheese fest, the story is moronic even by anime standards with waaay too many cutscenes, only 2 units actually matter, random difficulty spikes like the spear b***h, no replay value. What a mess.
Near victory turning to assrape and ruining my rank because one unit refused commands is not what I'd call fun. In 1, I even used a mod to lower the chance of Susie's Humanitarian to 0.05% and it still triggered ALL THE TIME
CP used continuously gets boring and predictable after a while, a little randomness to encounters adds some uncertainty similar to roguelikes which some like. But this is not an exciting way of doing it.
Not how it works.
Neige herself can spot as many enemies as she wants. She has to actually be sighted by two enemies in her turn for Stage Fright to trigger.
Which means you fricked up at sneaking in.
Neige is meant for taking point on assasination infiltration. She has a battle potential where a succesful sneak attack, i.e. sniping undetected, increases her attack power. And once you finish her personal story line, her negative trait Timid gets replaced by Signs of Change, which further boosts her attack power.
You're meant to lead with her to take out a keystone in an enemy formation before waltzing the rest of it.
>Which means you fricked up at sneaking in.
Except that DLC operation starts with your camp surrounded by enemy units. If you've never used Neige before, you have no idea she's going to piss and shit herself the instant you select her and wastes one action. It's just a deliberate frick you by the devs
Vancey is worth it for the sheer sexual arousal she produces within me.
Not to mention she's one of the REALEST homies on the roster. Actual fricking monster of a unit when she doesn't end the turn on your ass.
She's unironically worth it when she gets going.
>Then again I remember people saying scouts were OP and completely break the game, though I never tried a scout only run
It's better you didn't know. I didn't either, and when I replayed it I tried the Scout rush and it's ridiculous how OP it is.
The ultimate problem is ranking is solely determined by turn count, and nothing else. Scouts have the most movement, and can tank enough hits to survive incoming damage.
People give 1 a lot of flak for this but the sequels didn't really do anything to improve this. Instead of scout rushing you had APC rushing because turn count is still the only thing that matters. Bulldozing into a flag area, capturing it and then despawning the APC to hide it felt just as silly.
I haven't played 4 yet tho
nah the PSP limitations actually nerfed scout rush and made the other units actually usable because of the smaller, segmented maps where you could move units from point to point without wasting CP
I know that, what i meant to say was the gameplay still boiled down to rushing past enemies, just with a different unit. You never need to field the tank against other tanks either because it was faster to just take Imca with you in the APC and rush the flags.
>Then again I remember people saying scouts were OP and completely break the game, though I never tried a scout only run

This always felt strange to me. Especially considering when it seemed you were given additional money, unlocked special weapons etc... for killing enemy units, aces and the like. THough then again I think a lot of Japanese games have problems with this "Time limit is the only thing that matters" from a certain era, despite the game being designed to show that is not the way to play, it turns out to be at least in one regard.
If they want to leave it up to rushing to get an A that's fine, but it should also be possible if you take a long time , destroy every noteworthy target etc to grant an A as well.
They made an appropriate ranking system to offset that the enemy AI is braindead and relies on the player willingly running into their bullets and they'll be likely to do so because that is what is rewarded.
You have the sniper class in game where you can shoot at targets and put yourself in no danger? Get fricked idiot every turn you are doing that you are wasting time not getting closer to the enemy flag.
[...]
No it doesn't. VC4 just makes it so you can instead do shit like rushing with a shocktrooper to be much safer and easier because its just way more lenient on the turn count for ranking even though they added the APC and the direct command skill that refreshes your AP.
I'm glad they gave more lenience either way, but it would have been nice if they would have expanded the system in original VC1 among other titles. As far as the enemy AI, that's mostly just on reaction phase, its not like they won't actively go and try to hunt you down. One anon here talked about how a single lancer managed to destroy his Edelweiss in one hit. Having SOME time requirement for the best ending is fine if the objective is something like a flag/base, but some variation would be nice so that it wouldn't be countedagainst you not hyper-rushing or knowing "broken" strategies. A variety of objectives (the game does okay with this but could do better), ways to meet them (ie if you take out all the leaders, tanks/vehicles, or for that matter if you mow down most of the soldiers there's a good chance most others and some officers who aren't particularly heroic/bosses etc...will flee, and reasonable leeway on time in doing so would be ideal. In a new game this could also set up opportunities for all kinds of things to happen in following missions depending on what you did previously. Recruit former enemies if you were not bloodthirsty, scare away the enemy/force a retreat and you collect all the resources they left on the field, if you murderlize every single private quaking in his boots or take no prisoners/not allow retreat you won't have enemies surrendering, enemies will start sending experienced, ideologically committed squads or special units to go against you if you manage to get their normal soldiers to retreat frequently, and may even shoot their own people trying to leave etc... lots of potential for this to change the way a game could play.

Enemies are programmed to follow some set path and take shots when appropriate there is no "the player has hidden their unit around this corner so I'll send a unit around that corner to kill them" happening, everything is coincidental to some preset path they were made to take. This should be clear in any map you end up taking a while in or in replays of the game and just see some unit always taking a turn to run around in a circle.

there are multiple enemy AI schemes, some follow a set path but there are definitely others like "Finish a low hp character if one exists" or "Try to get behind the tank"

What you think is that is a coincidence.
Every single enemy is just following a movement to area script but some are on a delay or are meant to never move.

Eat shit Rielagay. They said that they wanted to take advantage of the fact that the story of the Nameless in 3 wasn't fully recorded in history books, so both romance endings could be considered equally canon.
Imca has the best special power in the game, but its usefulness depends on which of the ~8 maps in the whole game the operation takes place on. She's practically useless in the final operation beyond being one of the lancers needed for the rotating targets on the launch pad.
Riela is more flexible and has a panic button armor/heavy enemy killing ability.
Let's forget Alice after her power up has a chance to decide to heal herself to full and max all her movement points and we aren't even talking about using orders.
Fair. Pairing it with large breasts helps but your best bet is probably just to find artists that do good torpedo breasts and follow them. You're right, it could be better.
I remember enjoying VC4 until seeing this b***h. Let's make a military game where your high commander is a female who has the mentality of a 12 years old and literally be the first one to break despite not even being on the front. What can go wrong.
What you missed is that she was MEANT to frick up. Preferably with as much noise and grabbing as much attention as possible. The entire early land operations were a diversionary tactic meant to pull in the opposing forces while allowing a small fleet to sneak passed into enemy waters and sail right up to their capital to level it. Those special three Valkuria powered ships were meant to basically nuke it out of existence.
I got just last the part where the hot evil chick starts hacking and using godmode to defend the big chungus autistic tank. It's a meh game, honestly seems way too linear like no matter what you do every battle always plays out the same way
The apron and hair kerchief absolutely do it for me mixed with the desire to bake. Atop its nice to just see a straightforward romance between her and Welkin, thinking his nerding out about bugs and science and caring for his sister is cute.
All the more reason we need a VC2 remake in a modern engine with expanded playability including thicc milf Valkyria Alicia and General Welkin, for at least special missions or unlockables etc.
The VC community is one of the most self gaslighting groups I've seen.
Like only VC3 is balanced, but it gets hated on sight for a single poster when: >Swords are actually garbage in the game >Kurt is just a really good commander, no shonen anime MC bullshit of being the only one with casual military grade weaponry or literally in a battle school >Riela has total narrative synergy with her performance, she isn't broken from day one like Alicia >She also gets to casually use Valkyrie mode
Only problem is the maps are crunched down and reused
I've never figured out how to do the map where Selvaria is shooting at you from the fortress battlements without cheesing it with the Shamrock >shoot smoke at her >she just runs out of it next turn and instagibs somebody >shoot smoke at my own units >can't reach cover with everyone so people die anyway
You don't even need the smoke to hide the shamrock. If you equip the gatling gun you can just drive forward, aim up and let rip. That's what I mean by cheesing.
The PSP games were nicer for having proactive enemies. I swear there are plenty of maps in 1 and 4 that the enemy isn't even programmed to move up and pretend they're playing the same game as you.
I tried it and I gave up after 2 hours. I love strategy games but there was no challange, I felt like my tactical choices didn't really matter much since the game was so easy I would always win in the end no matter how hard I stumbled. Is there any reason why people like this series besides the waifus??
the first 2 hours is piss easy. There is a huge difficulty spike later on one mission they definitely get a little bit challenging later on. But in the end it depends on how you're doing it
The funny thing is, the PC version is actually slightly harder due to a 60 to 120fps bug that made the enemies do double/triple the damage.
>The funny thing is, the PC version is actually slightly harder due to a 60 to 120fps bug that made the enemies do double/triple the damage.
Oh yeah, that's right. That bug actually kills scout rushing until you spam orders or get their talents or whatever they're called to trigger.

Wait a minute, did they fix this? Or does it not trigger unless you go OVER 60FPS. Like a lot of JP games of its time, the physics/game systems were built into the framerate so I remember if you unlocked the framerate the "interception" fire from enemies would be a frickload faster once you got over 60FPS (or was it 30?). However I remember there being an in-game feature to cap the FPS at 60 and if you did that I thought it was good. Or at least is with the latest version of the game?
Even at 60 they fired faster. It was patched.
Here's an old thread talking about it.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/294860/discussions/0/624075036381183226
And here's the patch that fixed it.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/294860/discussions/0/617328415060035402/ >- Fixed an issue where the firing rates of several weapons/enemies would increase at higher frame rates.
So, if you want "hard mode", you need to get a version of the game before that patch. Unless someone modded the game since then, I got no idea if the game is even moddable.
The fact that the best game in the series is a PSP game (VC3) really tells you how Sega mismanages this franchise, aside from killing Selvaria and releasing a DLC for a 10 year old game for $60 (VC4).
Massively underrated series. Playing through 1 right now, and it's damn fun.
The story is odd though. it's ALMOST good, and if I was reading it on a wiki I'd think it'd sound great, but then you play the game (both 1 and 4) and it constantly stumbles executing those ideas.
all I remember about this game was this really hard battle where I barely managed to scrape by, but then LOL the battle wasn't over, enemy now gets a bigass tank and this big tiddy commander lady that shredded my guys
Anon should stop self inserting into the MC of everything he plays.
Or perhaps it would be based if Welkin suddenly banged Rosie and told Alicia to kill herself when she was going to instead of proposing.
(You) should stop writing like a homosexual troony homosexual who loves taking it up the ass. Unlike (You) I'm not afraid of RPGs that actually play like RPGs by giving me options AND good writing instead of no options and garbage-tier writing.
You are you fooling moron? Asking for multiple options in a game series like this is the same thing as asking for garbage writing >but at least the MC who is of course me banged my choice!

VC already has garbage writing (You) absolute fricking moron. There's hundreds of RPGs that have expended romance options for the MC while also at the same time having amazing stories and writing that blow VC out of the fricking water.

A VC game that followed the Fire Emblem Awakening formula would do numbers. I'm genuinely curious why they Sega hasn't at least made a spinoff in that vein.
Because Sega is moronic and run by fricking idiots. What's new? There's hope that they have finally taken a hint and VC5 will finally evolve the series and go the Fire Emblem route by giving actual romance options.
Just like with VC, Sega dug it out of the grave only to take a fat dump on it and throw it back in.
They literally forced the Yakuza director to make the game. Which he did so unwillingly he literally resigned from the company to work with the Chinese afterwards.
CHINESE!
There is not much more you could do to show a middle finger to Sega's management without becoming a criminal.
>VC comes as a result of many former SW devs wanting to do something different >VC1 pretty much uses an evolution of the combat system from SW3 - 5
Sega has done either SW or VC titles without the other [unless you count the DS dungeon crawler] releasing near the same time. After Shin Sakura Wars underperformed, the cycle would say we get a new VC push, but SW does have its 30th Birthday coming up in 2026.
It's impossible to predict what Sega will do since >Sega management.
>After Shin Sakura Wars underperformed
It didnt, it performed well, it was the gacha game that shat the bed
Ideally both franchises should learn from each other
Make the next Sakura Wars use a battle system like Valkyria instead of musou slop

Ironically, Sakura Wars and Valkyria Chronicles crossovered when they were in Project X Zone.
I can understand why VC4 didn't do it instead of pulling what VC3 did. VC4 was quite literally VC1 2.0, and pretty much ignored what VC2 and VC3 did for better and worse.
they already had the solution to scout rushing built in, each consecutive use of a character lets them move less
they just broke it with double movement giving a full bar and kept it that way stupidly
Does the story get good? I really like the art style but I dropped it like one or two missions after getting the tank (the one where you split up for the first time) because I didnt care for the story much.
>Hate having to use Lancers >Find out about how they're made completely obsolete by using anti-armour orders on shocktroopers and just running behind tanks
I don't have the clearest memory of her buff after the squad story buff. I just remember I took her with me along with the brown-haired guy scout as squad leader and the helmeted girl always.
Sakura Wars is dogshit; literally an interactive harem anime with token gameplay segments.
It's an insult towards Valkyria Chronicles to pretend they're even remotely similar or that VC has anything to take from that garbage series.
>Valkyria Chronicles 1 is anime-influenced but relatively grounded and serious with some fantastical elements/designs >Every subsequent game leans hard on the kawaii uguu panty waifu bullshit
waifugays think that because there's one character with blue hair in the first game that means it's the same thing as every character being a ridiculous overdesigned anime waifu in the sequels
>experience is tied to how many turns it takes to complete a battle >this forces you to either play normally then grind skirmishes which isn't fun or use cheese strats to win in as few turns as possible which isn't fun either
I'm sorry but this game is broken on a fundamental game design level. If you enjoy it you may be an idiot.
Do I need to play VC2/3 to understand VC4? I played VC1 years ago but a friend bought my VC4 on PC but I've never played 2/3. I have a hacked PSP so I can easily play them, but do I need to?
I spent like two hours fighting Maximilian's tank only for Selvaria to come out of nowhere and kill all my units. This is extremely fun, i'm not being ironic i love this
I have a suspicion everyone who takes hours on "the tank" mission never realize you are meant to climb the ladders and throw grenades in the radiator chamber and not shoot it with 500 lancers.
Clearly that super tank was actually designed for Grenadiers but they were cut from the game.
Worse thing is actually Lancers can kill it just it'll take you a long time, poor design in my opinion as some people will just take that as a sign of it being what the game wants even though its agony.
Anyway enjoy Valkyria Chronicles the puzzle game.
when the frick is sega going to remove denuvo from vc4?
I forget if you could have them unlocked in the first mission where it appears, but I think you could use an anti-armor order on a mortar unit and blow up all of the weak points at once.

Sega is the only JP publisher currently keeping Denuvo on its games regardless of age even with the new licensing structure.
Bamco seems to have bought unlimited licenses early on, then moved to a subscription license for games like AC7 and Tekken 7, and dropped Denuvo entirely for its new games a few years ago.
>when the frick is sega going to remove denuvo from vc4?
Frick, I bought this game in the previous sale because I didn't noticed the denuvo warning.
I have yet to play it. I wonder if I can still refund it.
the one that filtered me was the final mission in VC4 since no matter what I did my lancers were never able to hit the radiators even after climbing the ladders so I resorted to using mortars to hit them, but even though the targetting highlighted red showing that it would be a direct hit they always missed, so I had to correct the targetting by feel until I could finally hit them and they would only ever hit when it wasn't highlighted red.
Try the undub version and make sure you get the undub DLC to go with it. It won't fix everything but the Western localization was disappointing to fit on that PSP disc.
it's underrated but also not terribly notable. It shares a lot of problems with VC3 like lack of map variety; it's upgrade progression was pretty good though. for all the flack the school setting gets, they still lean off of the swords and shit VC3 brought despite introducing it
This. I ended up changing the main cast's classes multiple times before the end as they hit the cap of the development path and it would've been a waste of exp and mats to not switch to a new class. No grinding involved
in a good position to come back. 4 teases a lot of goings ons around the setting, most notably the not Pacific. If they want to keep with the same time period and not advance the setting, there's still the southern front where imps did shit like naval landings. + A lot of the VC4 epilogues have the gang being mercenearies. Where? Maybe notSpain for the not Spanish civil war?
Sales for 4 are good, being seven digits despite Ganker bring tsundere about it. Devs dig up an ancient engine to whip it up for modern consoles (why let that go to waste?) and Raita will always be down to sketch up a tank or a ballistics equipped woman or twenty
I'm thinking about hopping back into the game but it's been forever since I last played. can anyone summarize the plot up to when that homosexual maximillian and his tank come in? it's the only thing I remember. or is there some kind of plot summary in game I can read?
Imperials have a moment where they recover bodies of their comrades
you can rewatch scenes
jap ones look like they dressed up specifically to do it while zoomer decides to do it spur of the moment with no prep while someone was recording
video games?
She was very, very lucky there. Imagine her face after hitting it against the edge of that stone slab.
That fork could have ended in her eye or throat too.
Dumb how Maximilian's tanks are named Marmot and Gerbil in the original, but the localizers apparently thought that's not cool enough and made up some bullshit names instead. But I thought frickhuge tanks having codenames based on tiny critters was funny
I liked it. Recently bought 4 because it was on sale, but I haven't played 2 and 3. Are they any good? Not on systems I have so I'd emulate if that makes a difference.
I don't like the ranking system being based on the number of turns you use. It takes away any semblance of strategy and turns it into a puzzle game that only rewards cheese.
I love everything else about the game.
no you didn't
shut up
now he does
Not OP but I have 200 videos over different VC games on youtube. I enjoyed it.
A-are you an INFLUENCER??
Kys
Cool, I enjoy this
is it fun
No
Braindead gameplay with moronic plot and schizophrenic difficulty
Not worth it even for Ophelia's booba
If your tolerance for kusogē is as high as mine then it’s okay. Otherwise I’d advise you stay away, but it’s your call
Honestly one of the worst games I've ever played, sometimes the cutscenes had loading screens for camera angle changes, just mind-blowingly bad stuff.
The one amusing thing about this game is that you are blatantly playing the conquering aggressor unlike valkyria chronicles.
I do as well. Its a great title and deserves more support, but SEGA did absolutely the right thing releasing it on PC as they did - reasonably priced, all DLC, and not letting it languish in PS3 jail forgotten.
I've heard its horrible, but they never brought it to PC for some reason which even if it was shitty I'd pick it up for a few bucks and try it over being locked on PS4 or
VC4 was great but was fricked over by the fricking 4 in the name.
FRICK YOU!
Bit rude, innit?
Given how Ganker always defends a franchise' worst games or even the franchise killers, how much time before this place starts pretending that Revolution is the best game in the series and an underrated masterpiece?
>defends
3rd grade reading comprehension
alicia is like a bakery. she's always getting bread
test
Me to. 4 is even better.
They're all dog shit except the first
notGermany did nothing wrong.
>they literally put notJews in camps
cant do that today
>combat system excels at small-to-medium scale urban combat
>3/4 of the maps are grand scale clusterfricks
>final boss is a raw stat check
I wish the game had modding tools. The actual game systems are pretty good, but it needs more maps that play to its strengths.
Everyone did. Shame about the sequels.
3 and 4 are great. What's shame about them? Please sega gibe new game! Then no one bought it and you will make shitty excuses. Fans of series are limited and I hope Sega never makes a new one.
I like it too
Scouts and snipers are fun
>but it's easy! muh difficulty!
Don't care
I too enjoy this and will always curse Sega for fricking the series up.
I enjoyed it up to the first time I met that b***h with the spear and giant tank. that shit was pure cancer. especially getting my units to actually get the grenades in that damned battery port thing on top. most of the time it would find the smallest thing to bounce off of and do jack shit. hate hate hate
You were climbing the ladders to get on top right?
You can literally hit those vents with lancers or the tank if you're too moronic to send guys up the ladders
Just something funny I want to share lmao.
I FRICKING BEAT THE TANK!!!!
to those who told me to use the ladders, kys. to those who were stopped there know that you can't let this one stage defeat you. also to these guys
I enjoyed reading those thank you. I want to thank my parents for raising me poorly enough to lead me here and lastly I wanted to thank whoever is reading this. you've all been great.
This dude really spent 10 hours not managing to somehow chuck grenades down the big hatches
I love this game. The anime was also a nice show with a lot of episodes focusing on the "bad guys".
I'm still sad about Selveria. Truly one of the greatest characters in the game to go out with a bang.
I bet Sega regrets killing off their most popular character in her debut game
Selvaria is popular because of her fate, not just her attractiveness.
She deserved better than that homosexual ass emperor.
But Rouge didn't die
>kino aesthetics
>kino gameplay system
>kino soundtrack
We need more games like that. The sequels lack the epic feeling the og had
I liked 4 just a tiny bit more but frick, both are great
No you didnt, you were too distracted by cute waifus shooting guns to notice how terrible everything else was. Almost every map is a order buff cheese fest, the story is moronic even by anime standards with waaay too many cutscenes, only 2 units actually matter, random difficulty spikes like the spear b***h, no replay value. What a mess.
>he used orders
oh no...
>he used an in game mechanic to beat the game
Yes moron thank you for noticing
I'm guessing you pick easy mode in every game that has it
>order buff cheese fest
just pick your favorite scouts and run through
It was fun until I discovered scout spam
She sucks. I like the bald guy better.
>got Stage Fright twice on a Captainless Squad mission
>use her for the first time
>IS THAT MORE THAN TWO UNITS IN MY LINE OF SIGHT OH NO NO NO
>*ends turn*
Why do they keep including worthless CP-wasting trap units like this in the games?
It's a super fun replay to go through the game with all the losers, they have more 'personality' while playing.
Near victory turning to assrape and ruining my rank because one unit refused commands is not what I'd call fun. In 1, I even used a mod to lower the chance of Susie's Humanitarian to 0.05% and it still triggered ALL THE TIME
cause frick you I guess
You're meant to lead with her to take out a keystone in an enemy formation before waltzing the rest of it.
how about I take literally any other sniper and just shoot the dude
>Which means you fricked up at sneaking in.
Except that DLC operation starts with your camp surrounded by enemy units. If you've never used Neige before, you have no idea she's going to piss and shit herself the instant you select her and wastes one action. It's just a deliberate frick you by the devs
Vancey is worth it for the sheer sexual arousal she produces within me.
Not to mention she's one of the REALEST homies on the roster. Actual fricking monster of a unit when she doesn't end the turn on your ass.
She's unironically worth it when she gets going.
it's an almost great game held back by absolutely moronic design decisions, it is still (mostly) enjoyable but it could be so much more
I disliked how so much emphasis was put on finishing missions quickly which just encouraged you suicide rush to finish objectives.
I liked 1 a lot, but later missions felt a lot like trial & error where your execution needed to be on point or else the ai would just steamroll you.
Then again I remember people saying scouts were OP and completely break the game, though I never tried a scout only run
Even now I can't force myself to play in such a way, just feels like it sucks all the fun out of the game.
I liked the anime
nah the PSP limitations actually nerfed scout rush and made the other units actually usable because of the smaller, segmented maps where you could move units from point to point without wasting CP
I know that, what i meant to say was the gameplay still boiled down to rushing past enemies, just with a different unit. You never need to field the tank against other tanks either because it was faster to just take Imca with you in the APC and rush the flags.
That's what VC4 does thankfully.
>Convince Ozwald the Iron to join and help kill Maximilian
would have been awesome
>its not like they won't actively go and try to hunt you down. One anon here talked about how a single lancer managed to destroy his Edelweiss in one hit.
No it doesn't. VC4 just makes it so you can instead do shit like rushing with a shocktrooper to be much safer and easier because its just way more lenient on the turn count for ranking even though they added the APC and the direct command skill that refreshes your AP.
>rushing with a shocktrooper
did you stop playing halfway through?
Good on you for not knowing how to optimize the fun out of a game.
Never post that disgusting red hair prostitute again
>Imca ending was only a thing in the extra edition
Nice non canon smelly wife
The director of the game said that you can choose which ending is canon to you moron.
lmao
Need explosive Selvaria wife
Who is that supposed to be?
>Series were best known for Raita banana breasts
>"Great let's make more sequels WITHOUT Raita signatures breasts"
>*Sequel flops*
Who would had thought
Only tangentially related but it bothers the hell out of me that there isn't a consistent tag for bananas/torpedoes.
Pointy_breasts is the closest thing on danbooru, there used to be a pool for torpedoes but it got subsumed by that tag.
>Pointy_breasts
Yeah and the tag is filled with definably non-pointy breasts.
Fair. Pairing it with large breasts helps but your best bet is probably just to find artists that do good torpedo breasts and follow them. You're right, it could be better.
I had games with perma death bullshit. It’s a fricking a video game not a milsim for real life training
>use scouts to rush and capture points on the map for A rank
The ranking system and map onjectives need a lot of reworking.
DARCSEN FRICKING SHITS
I had the VK1 DLC and sent Isara along with Raz.
I remember enjoying VC4 until seeing this b***h. Let's make a military game where your high commander is a female who has the mentality of a 12 years old and literally be the first one to break despite not even being on the front. What can go wrong.
She was right about using the bomb.
It's a meh game, honestly seems way too linear like no matter what you do every battle always plays out the same way
The entire game is just scout rush, with the occasional Shocktrooper damage dealer.
I still love it, but it feels like the game never really challenges you.
Play the postgame skirmish missions (Hard/Extreme). They're pretty crazy and designed specifically to counter scout rushing.
Darcsens could've been cute, too bad
are the sequels any good? there's like 4 games total at this point?
Same
Never bought it though, refunded it
it was fun until you learn how to break the game, which happens quickly.
Powerful Mommy Energy
The apron and hair kerchief absolutely do it for me mixed with the desire to bake. Atop its nice to just see a straightforward romance between her and Welkin, thinking his nerding out about bugs and science and caring for his sister is cute.
All the more reason we need a VC2 remake in a modern engine with expanded playability including thicc milf Valkyria Alicia and General Welkin, for at least special missions or unlockables etc.
The VC community is one of the most self gaslighting groups I've seen.
Like only VC3 is balanced, but it gets hated on sight for a single poster when:
>Swords are actually garbage in the game
>Kurt is just a really good commander, no shonen anime MC bullshit of being the only one with casual military grade weaponry or literally in a battle school
>Riela has total narrative synergy with her performance, she isn't broken from day one like Alicia
>She also gets to casually use Valkyrie mode
Only problem is the maps are crunched down and reused
How can anyone enjoy this shit with the most moronic rate system ever conceived?
I've never figured out how to do the map where Selvaria is shooting at you from the fortress battlements without cheesing it with the Shamrock
>shoot smoke at her
>she just runs out of it next turn and instagibs somebody
>shoot smoke at my own units
>can't reach cover with everyone so people die anyway
>He doesn't know about using smoke to hide the shamrock and rape her on the first turn before she even gets to make a move.
Your loss, mate.
You don't even need the smoke to hide the shamrock. If you equip the gatling gun you can just drive forward, aim up and let rip. That's what I mean by cheesing.
very heartwarming
one of the primary examples of how japan good, west bad
and I love the seething that proof causes
I did not, it was a puzzle game masquerading as a tactics game.
Try 2 and 3, they more free in how you can approach missions.
And here's the patch that fixed it.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/294860/discussions/0/617328415060035402/
>- Fixed an issue where the firing rates of several weapons/enemies would increase at higher frame rates.
So, if you want "hard mode", you need to get a version of the game before that patch. Unless someone modded the game since then, I got no idea if the game is even moddable.
There is an actual hard / rebalance mod https://steamcommunity.com/app/294860/discussions/0/541907867782281880/
Neat.
i enjoy this
tactics game ?
>filename
Hey, don't shit on my boy.
strategy RPG, you'd be REALLY triggered by Super Robot Wars spirit commands
Don't call him invincible for nothing
Now I remember.. that.. FRICK YOU, OP.
I liked the first one, no interest in playing any of the sequels tbh
Your loss.
Kai's butt carried the game
Kai's BUNDA is one of the best I've ever seen in vidya, her swimsuit skin is just too good.
UNGA BUNDA
Her ass is so freaking fat, bros...
literally bought VC4 for Kai's tight ass
The fact that the best game in the series is a PSP game (VC3) really tells you how Sega mismanages this franchise, aside from killing Selvaria and releasing a DLC for a 10 year old game for $60 (VC4).
Welkin and Alicia become so fricking stupid in the third act it ruins the climax.
nobody mention the flying pigs
3 is the best one.
What is this from?
I just wanted to use the google/yandex/iqdb, just disregard it
Massively underrated series. Playing through 1 right now, and it's damn fun.
The story is odd though. it's ALMOST good, and if I was reading it on a wiki I'd think it'd sound great, but then you play the game (both 1 and 4) and it constantly stumbles executing those ideas.
Does anyone know where I can find "light up my life" by Mai Kuraki? It was the theme for VC4 but I can't find the full version on youtube anymore
all I remember about this game was this really hard battle where I barely managed to scrape by, but then LOL the battle wasn't over, enemy now gets a bigass tank and this big tiddy commander lady that shredded my guys
RQ after that
>Well over a decade later people are still traumatized by chapter 7
MADE
>the loose wiener lusting Cherry ends up a single mom if she survives VC1
Damn.
Minerva should have been the love interest in VC4.
Kai is for Raz
Riley is for MC
Minerva is for (You)
VC should let the player choose a love interest like in a proper RPG. Sega is beyond moronic.
Unlike (You) I'm not afraid of RPGs that actually play like RPGs by giving me options AND good writing instead of no options and garbage-tier writing.
>he wants options so he can date some hideous troony thing
please frick off to western games
You are you fooling moron? Asking for multiple options in a game series like this is the same thing as asking for garbage writing
>but at least the MC who is of course me banged my choice!
have a nice day
VC already has garbage writing (You) absolute fricking moron. There's hundreds of RPGs that have expended romance options for the MC while also at the same time having amazing stories and writing that blow VC out of the fricking water.
t. bear fricker
developer gag still lives inside Gankers head I see
Bear broken.
So you know VC storytelling is bad yet you ask for multiple options in romance which is harder to write because ultimately all you actually just want to do is self insert with a choice of waifu
>but at least the MC who is of course me banged my choice!
have a nice day
I refuted it twice but (You) cannot read. Fine. I will say it for the third time. I want both better writing AND actual RPG romance options that hundreds of other games like Witcher give while managing to blow VC out of the fricking water.
Yeah and I want the world too, but I'm sure Fire Emblem writing and romance is a part of your hundreds of games of good examples so perhaps you may get what you seek out of Sega yet.
Fire Emblem writing isn't perfect but it sure is havens above VC in that regard. Most series are
>good writing is self insert waifu fanfic
lmao the state of WRPG gays
>one of the best and most natural romances in vidya
>self insert wiafu fanfic
get actual taste fatty and start playing real RPGs
Shani BEST girl
Resetourists hate dating mechanics more than anything. These people would lose their minds if a persona game came out today.
Yeah basically. This entire thread feels like it was made by a bunch of tourists from Resetera just like all the other VC threads on Ganker.
I need to find me a woman with some big ol torpedoes just like Selvaria
same
keep that fire lit

Oh hey good to see you're still here and that (You) couldn't even attempt to refute this
A VC game that followed the Fire Emblem Awakening formula would do numbers.
That's legitimately the whole point of Sakura Wars.
Isn't Sakura Wars dead though?
Just like with VC, Sega dug it out of the grave only to take a fat dump on it and throw it back in.
They literally forced the Yakuza director to make the game. Which he did so unwillingly he literally resigned from the company to work with the Chinese afterwards.
CHINESE!
There is not much more you could do to show a middle finger to Sega's management without becoming a criminal.
Toshihiro Nagoshi was just a producer, he didn't make the game.
It depends on Sega at this point.
>VC comes as a result of many former SW devs wanting to do something different
>VC1 pretty much uses an evolution of the combat system from SW3 - 5
Minerva is such a a shit character.
I can understand why VC4 didn't do it instead of pulling what VC3 did. VC4 was quite literally VC1 2.0, and pretty much ignored what VC2 and VC3 did for better and worse.
I feel like if they just removed the tsundere aspect of Riley's personality (after she and Claude make up) then nobody would say this
they already had the solution to scout rushing built in, each consecutive use of a character lets them move less
they just broke it with double movement giving a full bar and kept it that way stupidly
I really liked the first one. I got a a couple of hours into VC4 but stopped for some reason and haven't picked up again in a while. I really should.
It hold a special place in my heart. Love the sequels too. VC3 and VC4 are awesome.
What do you guys think of Project X Zone Riela?
PxZ Kurt?
And what about PxZ Imca?
Does the story get good? I really like the art style but I dropped it like one or two missions after getting the tank (the one where you split up for the first time) because I didnt care for the story much.
>Hate having to use Lancers
>Find out about how they're made completely obsolete by using anti-armour orders on shocktroopers and just running behind tanks
Easy mode unlocked.
Imperial rifles on scouts can kill tanks as well.
do any of the sequels have a story and cast as enjoyable and sovlful as the first game?
A few of the side squad stories in VC4 is better than the majority of the main game. This chuuni bastard is the best.
4 almost does, main couple arent as good but the secondary characters are more fleshed out
I hate how pathetic tanks are, at least in 1. They're so goddamn inefficient at killing just about anything.
Edelweiss' mortar gets pretty good at knocking enemies out of bases at least. I haven't worked out a good way to use the Shamrock.
Will we ever see Vyse in any game ever again
sure, he'll be in SEGA Golf or something
his track in Allstars Racing was legit amazing tbf
Is his game actually good?
Its alright, slightly "bappys first RPG" thou
>Welks
KILL ALL LOCALIZERS
dub > sub
Say that again.
Rosie's song was in desperate need of localization though and it didn't get what it deserved
4 is the best game in the series and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
you have shit taste
Even if I do it's better than yours.
for me its
She saved me so much in that game
For me, it's
Hi! I'm Ted!
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
Thank you, thank youuu!
Vancy right? She wasn't the best shocktrooper to take on missions but I did all the same. She was good enough, even with the drunk debuffs
Her squad story turns her into a beast though
I don't have the clearest memory of her buff after the squad story buff. I just remember I took her with me along with the brown-haired guy scout as squad leader and the helmeted girl always.
What was Chad doing in Valkyria Chronicles 4?
theold in VC1
helmet was such a cutie
Damn a fricking Valkyria Chronicles thread?
Ahem, behold my wife, Aliasse
Sakura Wars is dogshit; literally an interactive harem anime with token gameplay segments.
It's an insult towards Valkyria Chronicles to pretend they're even remotely similar or that VC has anything to take from that garbage series.
please for the love of God. have sex
sister series no bully
>big titty white hair woman
>Valkyria Chronicles 1 is anime-influenced but relatively grounded and serious with some fantastical elements/designs
>Every subsequent game leans hard on the kawaii uguu panty waifu bullshit
Why does this always happen?
The writing was on the wall with the VC1 Edy Squad DLC.
The writing on the wall was always part of VC1 though
waifugays think that because there's one character with blue hair in the first game that means it's the same thing as every character being a ridiculous overdesigned anime waifu in the sequels
>experience is tied to how many turns it takes to complete a battle
>this forces you to either play normally then grind skirmishes which isn't fun or use cheese strats to win in as few turns as possible which isn't fun either
I'm sorry but this game is broken on a fundamental game design level. If you enjoy it you may be an idiot.
Yes me too anon i really love it :3
I bought a PS3 to play Valkyria Chronicles
based. I got RE5 valkyria chronicles and InFamous all on the same christmas
it was the first time I ever placed an Amazon order
Nice to see some /heem/ poster on Ganker.
I brought VC when I got my ps3.
A week after I finished it, they announced the PC version.
Do I need to play VC2/3 to understand VC4? I played VC1 years ago but a friend bought my VC4 on PC but I've never played 2/3. I have a hacked PSP so I can easily play them, but do I need to?
No, 4 takes place in the same time as 1 and 3 do just somewhere else.
2's story is after all 3 games.
All aside from VC2 occur at the same time, just a different part of the conflict.
No. VC4 takes place at the same time as VC1 and they're basically independent stories. Nothing from 2 or 3 comes up at all
2 takes place after the war seen in 1, 3 and 4, which makes it optional.
3 is best experienced after 1 and 4 since it has the hardest battles by far [due to correcting for how easy 2 was and PSP limitations].
I spent like two hours fighting Maximilian's tank only for Selvaria to come out of nowhere and kill all my units. This is extremely fun, i'm not being ironic i love this
enjoy, anon. VC1 does have a flow to it that is much more explored in 4.
bring my boys Wavy, Salinas, Walter Nash, and Selvaria junior Claudette
I have a suspicion everyone who takes hours on "the tank" mission never realize you are meant to climb the ladders and throw grenades in the radiator chamber and not shoot it with 500 lancers.
>anti-armor unit
>can't kill tanks
woooooow
Clearly that super tank was actually designed for Grenadiers but they were cut from the game.
Worse thing is actually Lancers can kill it just it'll take you a long time, poor design in my opinion as some people will just take that as a sign of it being what the game wants even though its agony.
Anyway enjoy Valkyria Chronicles the puzzle game.
I made the granny climb that ladder, it worked great until my entire team got lanced. I still love the game, and played a ton of 3 on my old psp go.
Took me awhile to realize really weird that
when the frick is sega going to remove denuvo from vc4?
I forget if you could have them unlocked in the first mission where it appears, but I think you could use an anti-armor order on a mortar unit and blow up all of the weak points at once.
Never i think, they removed them from Bayo and Nier years ago but VC and Persona still have them. Frick sega, just pirate.
Bayo never had Denuvo and Nier is SE.
Sega is the only JP publisher currently keeping Denuvo on its games regardless of age even with the new licensing structure.
oh i had a brain fart moment.
But yes my point still stands then
I don't think scamco has removed it from god eater yet either
Bamco seems to have bought unlimited licenses early on, then moved to a subscription license for games like AC7 and Tekken 7, and dropped Denuvo entirely for its new games a few years ago.
>when the frick is sega going to remove denuvo from vc4?
Frick, I bought this game in the previous sale because I didn't noticed the denuvo warning.
I have yet to play it. I wonder if I can still refund it.
the one that filtered me was the final mission in VC4 since no matter what I did my lancers were never able to hit the radiators even after climbing the ladders so I resorted to using mortars to hit them, but even though the targetting highlighted red showing that it would be a direct hit they always missed, so I had to correct the targetting by feel until I could finally hit them and they would only ever hit when it wasn't highlighted red.
best game ever made
>no remasters of 2 and 3
oyasumi, Valkyria
I started VC2 last year and couldn't finish it. The only good part was MILF Alicia
Try the undub version and make sure you get the undub DLC to go with it. It won't fix everything but the Western localization was disappointing to fit on that PSP disc.
it's underrated but also not terribly notable. It shares a lot of problems with VC3 like lack of map variety; it's upgrade progression was pretty good though. for all the flack the school setting gets, they still lean off of the swords and shit VC3 brought despite introducing it
I dropped VC2 when i learned the game expects you to grind mats for class upgrades, frick that. 3 was a massive improvement.
I never grinded in VC2 and beat the game just fine, you only need to grind if you autistically want a specific character to be a specific class.
This. I ended up changing the main cast's classes multiple times before the end as they hit the cap of the development path and it would've been a waste of exp and mats to not switch to a new class. No grinding involved
Whats the status of this series? I loved 1 and 4.
in a good position to come back.
Loved the characters in this. How are VC4's?
I'm thinking about hopping back into the game but it's been forever since I last played. can anyone summarize the plot up to when that homosexual maximillian and his tank come in? it's the only thing I remember. or is there some kind of plot summary in game I can read?
Imperials have a moment where they recover bodies of their comrades
you can rewatch scenes
he literally asked
Reminder that the DLC only has Jap voices.
GOOD
Someone explain to me why its cute when Japs do it, but cringe when its on TikTok, because both of these are cringe as shit
jap ones look like they dressed up specifically to do it while zoomer decides to do it spur of the moment with no prep while someone was recording
video games?
because (You) are probably gay and cringe anon while Japanese girls are just cute
Just replying to admire the strength of those cabinets.
That webm is funny though
I just clicked a random video from my TikTok Cringe folder, here's a better one (with booba)
>because both of these are cringe as shit
The one with jap girl is cute. The one you posted is cringe.
She was very, very lucky there. Imagine her face after hitting it against the edge of that stone slab.
That fork could have ended in her eye or throat too.
Solid workmanship there
It’s from a music video you ignorant Black person
Daily reminder that she's a shotacon
I fear for blonde, white boys in East-Asia.
>ywn be molested by your seiyūfu
Why live
Do you have to play 2 and 3 before 4? Because I don't want to go through a psp emulator to play 2 and 3.
Every title is standalone
Dumb how Maximilian's tanks are named Marmot and Gerbil in the original, but the localizers apparently thought that's not cool enough and made up some bullshit names instead. But I thought frickhuge tanks having codenames based on tiny critters was funny
MAUS
I liked it. Recently bought 4 because it was on sale, but I haven't played 2 and 3. Are they any good? Not on systems I have so I'd emulate if that makes a difference.
Did that retranslation for 3 ever get finished. I'm still pissed the original fan patch fricks up one of the ace spawns.
I’ve tried so many times to get into this game and I never can
Raita is a GOD.
When are we getting a Mahou Shoujo game?
yay my thread is still up 😀 they usually die.
Good for you
The last time I did one, people started posting cheese pizza and suspicious links
it's fun, yes
I don't like the ranking system being based on the number of turns you use. It takes away any semblance of strategy and turns it into a puzzle game that only rewards cheese.
I love everything else about the game.
the puzzles still have more strategy than letting turtlegays have their way
stop being a coward adn just do it
