Did Remake/Rebirth use the Prologue theme? I also recently finished a playthrough of OG FF7 and Prologue playing during the credits made me realise that I didn't recall hearing it in either of the Remake games. Prelude played during both, but did Prologue?

The flashback plot twist is definitely the biggest twist in the game. I guess we all like Aerith so her dying is huge. But I don't understand why the flashback reveal doesn't get more attention

Because if the remake made anything obvious is that nobody actually gives a frick about FF7, the actual videogame characters themes and plot.
People only care about FF7, “the product”, “the idea”, “the brand”, on the most basic superficial and stripped away level. Playing sims with the characters and talking about moronic fanfiction.

          Anonymous

I think what I hate about this is that FF7 feels so pointless now. I touched on it earlier but what were those sacrifices for now? Holy did nothing. Jenova will never die. Sephiroth is now an immortal time lord. Every Cloud in every universe will be tormented by this butthole forever. Not that Cloud had free will to begin with.

Just frick this bullshit, stick with the original game which contained the team's vision at the time and ignore everything else. It's what I do.
The 97 title is and will always be a rounded self contained fulfilling masterpiece and no amount of spinoff fanfic degradation will change that.

              Anonymous

I think I'm upset at it because I just wanted the remake to fill in details about the world. Like how Shinra took over the world or to make the timeline clearer or make more sense. I didn't need for it to be fundamentally changed, the fact the story has endured for nearly 30 years tells you that was unnecessary. I just wanted them to add more color on the edges. But maybe that was a monkey's paw because now I have to interpret the events of at least THREE OTHER UNIVERSES to learn the new story. And that really fricking sucks.

                Anonymous

I know, I wanted the same thing. Tastefully enhancing the universe instead of going full balls to the walls nonsense time traveling deus ex machina plot devices about multiverses and some dogshit.
Like fully realizing yuffie and vincent as party members, ironing out some inconsistencies, restoring content that was on the game but was glitched out of playability…
Sure, add a more rich backstory about shinra's total world domination, the wutai war, professor gast's investigations and the cetra world before humans. I don't know, why not. Sounds like it'd fit.

                Whatever.

                Anonymous

You know what's a really cool thing the original did that gets almost zero attention? How good Shinra is at rewriting history. I'm glad you mentioned Yuffie because on the surface Yuffie is kind of a brat who only cares about Wutai and Materia. But like... she's more right than even she knows. The Lifestream lost its name, it's Mako now. Knowlespole lost its name, now its a generic ass Icicle Area assuming it's not just called "Northern Continent." No one even knows a whole village was wiped off map by Shinra? Oh you thought I meant Nibelheim? No I was talking about Corel although yeah Nibelheim got memory holed too. Too bad Sephiroth died under mysterious circumstances. Most popular soldier in the world, no one can explain what happened to him. So yeah I totally understand why Yuffie is struggling so hard to get her country out of Shinra's hands. It's already losing its identity. And the most memorable part of it, other than being a tourist trap that serves its conquerors, is that there's a guy hiding there kidnapping teenagers so he can frick them upside down on the faces of their ancestors.

Remakegays will cope and get pissed off suggesting you would want a 1 for 1 remake, when in reality the best remakes take all the aspects that work about the original and enhance them, while keeping the original relevant in its own right. More importantly, it is key for people who have never played the original to understand everything that is going on in the Remake, something that it falls flat on in multiple instances. What I really wanted was a singular cohesive video game, even if there were changes made. Hell, I would have settled for TWO parts

Am I the only one who thinks it's insane that Resident Evil 1 remake is considered one of the best remakes of all time and all it did was remix a few things and added some others while still being about cops trapped in an evil funhouse. This whole deal has given me a very begrudging respect for FF16. Because even though FF16 fell on its fricking ass, it still had to be its own thing. It couldn't just hide behind a previous success's face to get extra clout. SE knew anything with Cloud on box is going to see moderate success no matter what so they just used him as a vehicle to this new thing they thought of. And I hate that.

Maybe I'll get anihilated for suggesting it but that's why I enjoyed the RE2 and RE4 remakes, felt like respectful sidegrades that acknowledge they're doing a familiar interpretation without stomping on the originals or trying to replace them. Also feels like they're having fun WITH the fans and not at their expense.

                Anonymous

I think RE2 is okay although I'm upset at how hard they dropped the ball with the B scenarios and the lack of interaction between Leon and Claire. RE4 I think is better done because RE4 is still technically a modern game. Like the stuff they changed was kind of small. Saddler mind controlled Ashley in the original game, he just does it more often in the Remake. And Saddler himself went from more a of grifter to a genuine nut job who saw the parasites as his god. Like you said it's more of a sidegrade where you will get the bullet points of the original if you played them.

FF7 is a remake that is also a sequel that relies on prior knowledge of OG that was made 30 years ago. Most people who DID play the OG don't remember the events clearly.

I think they don't remember clearly and they don't really care either.
I know a couple of boomer 40+yo acquaintances that played the original back then but live with zoomer mentality of only wanting to play remakes and rerelases and NEVER looking back because old games are old and le clunky and le janky.
                Completely embarrasing.

                >only wanting to play remakes and rerelases and NEVER looking back because old games are old and le clunky and le janky.
Oh my fricking God this shit makes me want to scream. There was a video I saw about God of War 4 where the discussion was about how God of War was finally a mature series with mature themes and then it turned out the journalists never or barely played the Greek games at all. And he said something that stuck with me that I'm gonna paraphrase. If there's any merit to the argument that games can never be art, then gamers are that argument. Because no other medium in the world is supported by people who are so quick to shit on what came before in favor of the shiny new thing. FF7 was a good game. There were games that were better than it at the time and the JRPG formula has seen QoL improvements since. But nothing can change the fact that FF7 is and always will be a good game. So to hear people say actually it wasn't good but we're still going to take the names, characters, systems, themes, and setting and put it in this new thing... but no the OG wasn't good is enraging to me

What a great quote, definitely stealing that one. The absolute state of “gamers” is just pathetic.
Don't know what to add besides sharing the sentiment.

I personally think RE4 remake is very good. While the original is a better video game, the attempts at making RE4 a more sensible horror game worked for me. Its far from perfect, but I would rather them try that instead of make the same game but shittier. RE2 remake would have been perfect if there were actual A and B routes, but you cant win them all. It is kind of interesting how Mr. X and Nemesis kind of flipflopped between the RE2 and RE3 remakes.

That said, the RE3 remake is a turd relative to the original. As a stand alone game it is like a 6/10, and only worth like 20 bucks at best, but compared to the original its just pretty shit.

Am I the only one who thinks it's insane that Resident Evil 1 remake is considered one of the best remakes of all time and all it did was remix a few things and added some others while still being about cops trapped in an evil funhouse. Resident Evil 1 is the poster child for a reason. While it didnt add a lot of new stuff, it added a lot of new stuff relative to the length of the game, and the addition of stuff such as Crimson Heads added another layer of tension and terror, which works well for the type of game that it is, to an already familiar game. FF7Remakegays have no good argument against the glowing praise of the RE1 remake even though it is actually a quite bit different in tone (a lot less corny, weird candle lit atmosphere, a lot of fleshing out of ideas). Granted, my one big gripe is that in spite of all of its strengths, they still did nothing to give RE1 a proper canon ending, which I always found stupid.

It was abrupt but I do think it was warranted. We weren't supposed to know whether humans were spared. Aerith did pray and White Materia did glow green, so the planet did hear her prayer. But humans were also the biggest threat to the planet on the scale of Jenova. So the planet had cause to just delete them.

But that abrupt ending probably feels wrong now that all of the sequels have proven in no uncertain terms that humans (and Jenova and Sephiroth) survived Holy
